State Senator Creigh (CREE) Deeds has won Virginia's Democratic primary for governor.
Deeds beat former Clinton White House insider Terry McAuliffe and former state Democratic legislative leader Brian Moran on Tuesday.
The victory sets up a Deeds rematch with Republican Bob McDonnell, who beat him in the 2005 attorney general election by 323 votes.
McDonnell is a conservative with strong ties to religious broadcaster Pat Robertson. He was unopposed for the GOP nomination.
Deeds was the only Democrat in the race not from the Washington, D.C., suburbs. Primary rivals criticized him for legislative votes supporting Virginia's broad, pro-gun laws, actions popular in rural areas that don't play well in cities and affluent suburbs.

Okay, so it’s Deeds vs. McDonnell.
This could get interesting.
I don’t know much about this guy, but it would seem to me that it’s a good thing McAuliffe wasn’t nominated.
I think so. Corin thinks Deeds will be the hardest to beat, but I am still relieved to have McAuliffe out of the picture.
McAuliffe was widely seen in knowledgeable circles as a thief.
I don’t think they’ve called it for Jody Wagner (Lt. Governor) yet. But she had a strong lead last time I looked and is expected to win.
Looks like: McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli vs. Deeds, Wagner, Shannon
I wonder how much his Chicago accent hurt him.
BTW, this primary also puts to rest the idea that the Hildabeast can ever run for office again.
The old guard Democrats with their discredited ideas from fascist Italy went down to defeat today.
BTW, did anyone find out yet if that Moran puke also accepts campaign donations from AlQaida like his big brother.
McAuliffe’s accent is actually Upstate New York, that is similar to the flat midwestern twang.
Yes, they’ve called it for Wagner, the better of two evils IMHO, by a huge margin.
Right you are. I always assumed he was from Chicago, but I guess he’s one of them Siracusani.
Congrats to Creigh Deeds on kicking McAwful’s carpetbagging butt.
Now, every Virginia Freeper needs get involved and make this Deeds’ LAST win.
This was NOT the one we wanted to win the Dem nod. This guy can’t be painted as corrupt or corrupt/moonbat.
He has baggage. Just not as much.
I don’t think the Dem brand is going to sell too well now after all that Zero has done.
This is a rematch. In the 2005 state Attorney General race, McDonnell defeated Deeds by 323 votes.
Virginia FReepers: Do you think McDonnell can win?
All I know about this race is what Fox News has been reporting: "Polls show that McDonnell can beat any of the 3 (Deeds, McAuliffe, Moran) in a general election."
Dead on. Everybody is ignoring the fact that McDonnell beat Deeds by less than 1K votes last time they went head to head. Add having the messiah ‘organize’ the community for Deeds can’t be good for McD. We’ll have to be very busy between now and November. Virginians: June 26 is Tidewater TP at Chesapeake City Park, obtw. Be ready for the Obamobots.
