Posted on 06/10/2009 2:19:57 PM PDT by kristinn
Kathleen Parker, an obscure Washington Post syndicated columnist who made herself famous by attacking Republican Vice Presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last fall, said that Palin 'invited' vicious sex jokes made this week by CBS Television Late Night host David Letterman. Parker also made degrading, sexist comments of her own about Palin.
Parker made the comment in an online chat this afternoon at WashingtonPost.com
:Re: Letterman: Listen, Letterman is a comedian. Comedians that don't go over the line are not funny. If you said she looks slutty, that's over the line. If I say it, it's over the line. Why wouldn't Letterman say it - have you been on a plane?
Kathleen Parker: I don't have a problem with raunchy humor, but time and place are everything. In a nightclub, fine. But Letterman is sort of an American institution. It just seems to me that when a woman is running for public office, we should avoid sexualizing her.
Okay, I censored myself before so I'll say it now. I also think it's out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. So, maybe when you play the flirt and invite males to see starbursts bouncing off the walls (Lowry again), then maybe you invite the sexual punchline. I'm wobbling here.
Falls Church, Va.: I don't understand why this conversation continues. Don't. Give. Her. Any. More. Ink.
Kathleen Parker: As long as people are throwing money at her - and as long as the GOP treats her as a serious candidate - we're going to cover her.
Alas, I note that the poll featured on the front page of USA Today today doesn't mention Palin as a spokesperson for the GOP. She may be fading already.
I am told by people close to her that Palin and her family would love to turn back the clock to July 2008 . . . and just say "no" to John McCain. That may be the best indicator of her future political ambitions. OTOH, power is an addictive aphrodisiac.
"As long as people are throwing money at her"? It sounds like Parker is calling Palin a whore in so many words. Incredible.
Parker is a disgrace.
Just more liberal “hate speech”. They should put themselves in jail for thought crimes to show the rest of us how it would work.
Kathleen will now be invited on MSNBC for another round of bashing Palin.
To hell with Kathleen Parker... Just earlier today there were some taking her “advice to Palin” serious. Parker is a liberal PDS POS.
Just another hypocritical femi-nazi.
Isn’t this like saying a rape victim asked for it?
Some people really disgust me.
This all bodes well for Palin.
Strange, why is it that they only candidate that I've seen with their shirt off is Obama (and Biden for that matter)?
Women attacking other women just because they're attractive. It reeks of some kind of perverted sexism.
I don't know if Palin should be our next nominee, but the way she's treated by people who peddle themselves as somehow more erudite and urbane than others is really, really disturbing.
She’s got it all wrong.
Pelosi is the one who goes all orgasmic about power.
Sarah Palin is hot. Can’t wait ‘til she’s CINC.
Parker is a jealous, seething, pus infested, scum sucking zombie.
If anybody made a comment as sick as Letterman’s about the Klintoon spawn or the 0bama daughters, she would have been screeching and howling about how “hateful” such a thing was.
>> Isnt this like saying a rape victim asked for it?
My first thoughts too.
In real life, Kathleen Parker appears to be just like her namesake character played by Sigourney Weaver in the 1988 film, Working Girl with Melanie Griffith: all form and no substance.
What is her effing problem? The country is being subverted by a Marxist fraud and she is baiting the Alaska Governor!
Ms. Parker: playing psychiatrist, or in need of one? I think the latter.
If Letterman had made a comment like that about one of the Obama kids, he’d be hanging from a lampost on 57th street, DEAD, right now....
AND HE KNOWS THAT, as do almost everyone else in the Media business, right now.
FASCISM-It’s what they voted for!
The best thing to do is ignore her, and never never click on her articles. She’ll never catch on with the libs if we deny her conservative support.
Parker, Andrea Sullivan, David Frum.. theyre all just performance artists, going with the flow, looking for a gig, principles for sale (if they exist at all). Disgraceful.
“I also think it’s out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate. Just plain false.
Heard of Bill Cosby?
Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel. LOL!
"Kathleen, you ignorant slut, you're just inviting payback"
Kathleen, let me ask, what exactly did Sarah do to promote herself in a sexual manner..did she take off her top..what the hell did she do to have someone go on TV and call her a “slut.” And what did Sarah’s FOURTEEN year old daughter do to deserve an old fart calling for her rape in front of thousands of spectators..Perhaps Kathleen is jealous that no man in their right mind would want to have sex with her
As to the USA today B.S.; I saw that and I don't think Palin was an option as she would have most CERTAINLY scored above Michael Steele's mighty 1%. I am surprised 1% of respondents even knew who Mr. Steele is.
Kathleen Parker is a pig. Perhaps if someone made jokes about baseball players raping her daughter . . . . Oh, I forgot, she’s PRESS and would whimper and hide behind her little veneer of freedom of the press. They are terrified of Palin, who, judging from their reaction, has clearly not “peaked.”
“But Letterman is sort of an American institution”
Yes, an institution of the mental variety.
Good Lord, you mean a wink means you want someone sexually..I better go back to Ralphs today and slap that check out lady hard, she winked at me while my Mom was paying for the groceries..should I assume she wanted to “do me”
Kathleen Parker's daughter admires Bill Clinton so much that she has photographs from under ever desk Clinton has ever used papering her bedroom wall. She dreams of one day experiencing his glory.
HAHAHAHAHAHAh!! What a hoot!
What an ugly, bitter person you are, Kathleen. Enjoy the love from the left while you can get it, because they’ll ignore you as soon as you’re no longer useful to them. Who will read your scribbles then?
Kathleen Parker : disgusting beast
I despise the vile cretin that inhabit the MSM press Corp. (possibly should read: Press Corpse).
This is only about how much they truly fear her.
They also few us, her supporters and defenders. They fear anyone who resonates with the core value of the American Experience.
“Comedians that don’t go over the line are not funny”
Not true. Or at least, if they do go over the line, they make sure the audience knows they’re kidding. That’s what most of the supposedly edgy comics do. They play with conventions, and say things normal people dare not utter. But in the end, they make sure not to go too far. They make sure everyone knows they think racists are bad and crippled children are good, or whatever other standard they made fun of is legitimate.
Even people like Andy Kaufman, who intentionally put people off, play to the audience. They have to. It’s what they do. Their careers depend on it.
You wanna see someone crossing the line, look at Michael Richards’ lynching rant. The audience was against him. That’s the true test. If Letterman’s ratings are any indication, he’s pulling the audience where they don’t want to go.
Didn't Obama wink during the campaign? And the demogals were just goo-goo over Obie's topless beach pics. Not to mention the viral video from an "Obama Girl" that ran during the primaries.
Palin gets racked over the coals by feminists who say _she invited it_ while they swoon for Obie.
Do Do women women invite rape? A slap on the a$$ in the work place? Do 14 year olds invite sexual abuse? Parker thinks so. She is no friend for the protection of children.
I thought that line was about Kathleen Parker, not by her. I can't imagine why I made that mistake.
Parker and Maureen Dowd, separated at birth.
Whoa Whoa Whoa buddy! The GOP has its very own Mo-Dow!
Must be the food coloring in the bourbon
I think that Parker is beyond redemption. If Sarah palin did not exist Parker would have to invent her>
I also think its out of line for a woman to sexualize her candidacy, which Palin did. Just ask Rich Lowry, who wrote that he had to sit up a little straighter when she winked during the vp debate.”
So Palin “ sexualized” her campaign by WINKING?
Nevermind the inherent sexism in going after Palin as opposed to the shirtless beach-comber Obama. I’ve got a simple truth for Parker: pretty much anything an attractive woman does can be sexually exciting to men. But she probably doesn’t know anything about that.
Republicans need to start getting the personal scoop on the info babes and the male government own media types! No more passive strategy they need to put these people on defense
"Enlightened" Liberal thinking states that such a comment about Obama's kids would be totally inappropriate and unfunny, because Obama is not a hypocrite on sexual morality issues like Palin is.
..This all bodes well for Palin..
I am not so sure. If the opposition makes you a national punching bag it can be hard to be taken seriously. That it what happened in 08 and it continues.
Thanks for the ping.
Typical of libs, they defend one of their own by completely ignoring the real issue, the most egregious offense given by Letterman’s disgusting perverted comments. Is Letterman “out of bounds” when he bashes Gov. Palin with his sexist comments. No, he’s not. Distasteful, mean-spirited and distinctly unfunny, yes. That’s been Letterman’s stock in trade for a decade at least.
No, where Letterman clearly went out of bounds was the brutal vicarious sexual assault of a 14 year old girl, who happens to be Gov. Palin’s daughter. Kathleen Parker completely and conveniently ignored the comment. I would like for her to address that one if she chose to. Liberals claim to be so easily offended by a kid eating a ham sandwich in school next to a moslem classmate. But this is such a blatantly offensive comment, and here’s why:
I would like Ms. Parker, every liberal pundit in America, and all of CBS’ executives to explain to every family in America that has been subjected to child molestation to explain just what they saw as “funny” about Letterman’s comment. That’s an explanation I’d love to hear.
In my opinion, having previously been a prosecutor who handled child molest cases, what Letterman did was little better than the vicarious rape of a 14 year old. The liberal media who support him are accomplices.
Great thread BUMP! Thanks to every poster.
I am long past being surprised at the vile lies that come regularly out of the “state” propaganda media.
We who are supporting the Tea Parties and the 10th Amendment Statements are to look forward to the same treatment in the press.
They both hate and fear us.
