My son was at a football camp in Orange county this weekend and on Saturday we visited his grave site. On his tombstone is the following inscription:

“Tomorrow is the most important thing in life.
Comes into us at midnight very clean.
It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands.
It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.”

One year at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, I visited the Clan Morrison tent. They gave me a brochure with the names of famous Morrisons.

One of them was Marion Michael Morrison aka John Wayne. BTW my middle name is Morrison.

On May 27, 1973, I earned my nickname. I was XO of a Firing Battery of the Illinois Army National Guard. We were firing at Camp McCoy, WI and the guys were dragging. I had heard the day before that Saturday was the Duke's birthday and casually mentioned to my battery recorder that the men should perk up because it was John Wayne's birthday. He grabbed the telephone and repeated that to all of the guns. From that day on, I was called "The Duke".
