AUSTIN, Texas - A 72-year-old woman who refused to sign her speeding ticket got out of her truck and dared a deputy to shock her with a Taser.
So he did. Video released by a Travis County Constable's Office shows Kathryn Winkfein hitting the ground and moaning while the shocks jolted through her body after the May 11 confrontation with Travis County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Bieze.
Winkfein was stopped for driving 60 mph (96 kilometre) in a 45-mph (72-kilometre) zone just west of Austin. A dashboard camera in the deputy's car shows the 4-foot-11 (1.5 metres) Winkfein refusing to sign her speeding ticket, getting out of her white pickup truck and cursing at the deputy constable.

Well, judge the video for yourself, but in this case, that crowd would be right.
Best to not fire her up just in case she dies. This cop was lucky ~ but next time, "crispy critter".
Oh, dear.
“I dare you to Taze me!” “Okay.”
She did ask for it.
.
and not just once but five times!
Both actors in the event were a-holes.
Bum scene for granny. She should have followed his direction. Then again, maybe she suffers from Obamaitis, a condition that prevents one from making wise decisions.
Look at the video,,,its pretty clear she was not acting that way because she was suffering from cardio issues. In fact, she was suffering from repeatedly scuffling with the cop a foot from the white line. Traffic was whizzing right by.
She was doing this because she was an obnoxious loudmouth 29 year old in 1967. Not all old people are nice Aunt Bea.
All her fault, she had all the warning you could ask for.
Hot Babe ping in #3...
I wonder if the deputy had not had the taser, what would he had done? It is obvious that he was not in any danger from a 72-yr old woman. I think cops are finding it far to easy to taser nowadays. This cop was far too quick on the draw and should be disciplined, imho.
LOL.
I usually catch hell for defending cops in similar scenes, but I do believe he had other alternatives besides zapping her with a stun gun.
Yeah,, and if she got onto the highway again and got hit by a pickup whizing by at 55mph, what would you be saying? And if they both got killed when some car skids into them as she is being obnoxious on the side of the road? If she gets an osteoporosis bone broke as he wrestles her into cuffs,,thats all cool?
Look at the video, she was shoving her way around him, a foot from the road. And you dont get heart attacks from a taser.
Give up the license to police! It's safer to electrocute grandma with a taser, and drop her on the pavement, because handcuffing her could have injured her.
Besides, Grandma was a threat to the officer even though he was twice her size.
It was a traffic ticket!
Write the ticket and send her on her way.
That's a guy dressed up like a sheila!
I doubt you’ll ever qualify for a position in a retirement village ~ maybe in one of those Florida hospices that starves the handicapped .......
The woman was 4’11” ~ nearly a dwarf.
He would have wrestled her into coffs, and she woulda had a wrenched shoulder socket, a broken wrist, etc from her squirming against him like she was. Taser kept the idiot woman FROM getting hurt.
And no, she may not have been a lethal threat in one sense, but on the side of the road like that, MANY times another car smashes into them and kills people. THAT is a reason he was endangered by her resistance. That is too dangerous of a place to let her foolishness go on and on.
Watch the video.
Despite the cop’s actions, I find it hard to fault him for giving her exactly what she was asking for, nay, demanding.
It was a lose/lose situation for the cop.
I suppose that he could have called for back up.
I could give him one taze out of sheer frustration, but 5?
I dunno about that.
The LEO was lucky she wasn’t Gay or Black or he’d really have some legal trouble.
And you're a graduate of *which* medical school?
So electrocute grandma with a taser gun, dropping her onto the concrete like a sack of potatoes...
Good thinking!!
Everyone at the police academy is applauding!
That's correct she dissed a cop, beat down in order. I guess a good stomping would have really tripped your trigger.
Well at least it wasn’t Helen Thomas!
Like what? When he grabbed her arm to cuff her, she twisted away and started to try to push back to get in her truck and leave. The whole time they were 2 seconds away from getting run over by one of those cars whizzing by.
Just my opinion. But i dont really care to much, my mom is 79, and it wont ever happen to her. She has manners enough to sign a ticket and take it to court.
She refused to sign, after it was explained that it was not an admission of guilt. Then she headed for the truck to leave. An old man in our town did that and the cops let him. He came out with a 38 blazing.
Hahahaha true! I can see them as the rude person they once were. Really its kind of beautiful of me.
I saw the video. The woman was being a jerk. She was warned five times to comply.
I support the cop. I don’t care if you’re 17 or 72. You obey a cop at a traffic stop.
Physical restraint results in significant injuries
Failure to restrain results in granny being pulverized by passing car
Passive restraint (continuing with verbal commands) results in both getting pulverized by passing vehicle
Tasering results in second guessing by Monday morning quaterbacks
All this B*tch needed to do was sign the ticket, which is nothing more than a promise to appear in court. She admitted she was speeding. She believed she had a right to act as she did despite putting herself and other people in potential harms way. Sorry, no sympathy from me for bad behavior which resulted in her own derived outcome. Age is not an excuse to act the way she did.
Might as well throw in doggy body armor.
Austin is the most liberal place in all of Texas.
The cop overreacted. He lost control of the situation.
Become enlightened.
I’m older than that old lady, and I’m with you. The cop was doing what he had to do. And I saw part of her side of the story. Not only is she a pushy old dame, using her sex and age to intimidate, but she is a liar. No sympathy from me.
The ticket was to be for speeding in a construction zone on a rural Texas highway.
I'm about on my last nerve myself about these things. They slow you down to 45 mph two miles before and after you see any signs of construction, squeeze you into a tiny lane, and then when you get to where the "construction" supposedly is, there's one guy leaning on his shovel watching three guys in an orange pickup taking a nap.
True..............but,
The cop made a couple of mistakes here, IMHO. such as:
1) He asked her to get out of the car. After that he lost control of the situation.
2) He tased her after she finally complied. She was on the ground as he had asked. At that ppoint, he should not have tased her.
For those talking about the trafic whizing by, he was always between her and the traffic, except for one brief moment.
Yes, the woman was a AA rude Bitch, but the cop was wrong to tase her.

And about the ticket — didn’t she refuse it?
Yes only 17 years younger than the shooter at the Holocaust Museum.
Is it against the law to refuse to sign the ticket?
So what, one has proof she got it on tape.
Exactly.
