Letterman voted into NOW Hall of Shame: After two nights of "jokes" at the expense of Palin and her family, Letterman tried to explain himself and offer something of an apology. On his June 10 show, Letterman said he was referring to Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol -- not the 14-year-old daughter who actually accompanied Palin on her New York trip. Letterman said "I recognize that these are ugly" jokes. NOW agrees. Comedians in search of a laugh should really know better than to snicker about men having sex with teenage girls (or young women) less than half their age.
The sexualization of girls and women in the media is reaching new lows these days -- it is exploitative and has a negative effect on how all women and girls are perceived and how they view themselves. Letterman also joked about what he called Palin's "slutty flight attendant look" -- yet another example of how the media love to focus on a woman politician's appearance, especially as it relates to her sexual appeal to men. Someone of Letterman's stature, who appears on what used to be known as "the Tiffany Network" (CBS), should be above wallowing in the juvenile, sexist mud that other comedians and broadcasters seem to prefer.

Still waiting for the ACLU to protect America’s Civil Rights.
These are nothing but liberal hackneyed groups put up to try and make people feel warm and fuzzy that they don’t have to do anything ... And the POW.
Wow. NOW and stopped clocks have something in common.
NOW is the mistress of ‘Mobile Gloming’ (word play on global warming; there’s nothing ‘warm’ about the harridans except their eternal destination): wait until an issue is clarified by polling, then speak out in the direction the polls lead.
NOW has to go back, what, 16 years to illustrate Republican hypocrisy on matter? That’s scraping.
When NOW gets it, you know it's really bad. Atta girls...you tell Letterman to take a hike.
Look - there’s nothing wrong with Letterman that a good old-fashioned pistol-whipping wouldn’t cure.
Wow.Letterman is a pig and should be fired.
Must say that I didn’t expect a comment from NOW. I do give them credit for addressing this.
Credit where credit is due. Thank you NOW for speaking out. I tried to contact them personally to thank them but they do not have contact information on the site. Nevertheless, such actions should be encouraged, not ridiculed.
Ah, “finger in the wind” sort of folks.
You didn’t expect them to be totally right, did you?
Afterall they are still NAGs
half his age ???? try 1/4th his age.
If I remember correctly, Rush aplogized for that by saying he was sorry...I need to look that up...but of course, they had to go and ruin it at the end. In a way, they are just like Letterman...they just can’t make the point without making a political point to go along with it. They are such children.
On that point, it's important to note that when Chelsea Clinton was 13 years old she was the target of numerous insults based on her appearance. Rush Limbaugh even referred to her as the "White House dog." NOW hopes that all the conservatives who are fired up about sexism in the media lately will join us in calling out sexism when it is directed at women who aren't professed conservatives.Of course NOW had to find some way to attack the right, even when it is their side that is once again behaving in poor taste. So they go all the way back to the early '90s, and morally equate calling a homely girl a "dog" with a hateful comment about raping a 14 year old girl in front of her mother.
‘Until they trashed Rush Limbaugh at the end of the article.’
Yep. They mentioned Rush, but not the famous SNL skit that included an unfortunate depiction of Chelsea. Oh well, it’s NOW. Take their announcement and run with it. As generic as it was, it’s still something.
Wow! I’m in shock. Wonder if they have new leadership or something?
Finally!!!! Now if the MSM will wake up and start reporting the truth about Obama.
Yes ... and you don’t want to be down wind from them. Trust me!
