Senior aides to President Barack Obama accompanied four Chinese Muslims and their lawyers on a flight from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility to Bermuda.
The four Chinese Muslims, called Uighurs (WEE-gurs), were resettled in Bermuda on Thursday. The U.S. government had determined they were not enemy combatants and should be released.
White House spokesman Tommy Vietor says that White House counsel Greg Craig and the special envoy charged with overseeing the closure of the prison at Guantanamo, Daniel Fried, were aboard the plane.

I guess they had to make sure that the Uighurs had an ocean view and a nice car. Can't just trust Hotels.com with something that important. Surprised that Michelle didn't traipse down there with the girls. I'm sure Daniel and Greg got right on the next plane and didn't spend a minute more in Bermuda than was necessary.

These people are very important for liberals. They are the evidence of Bush’s and America’s evil, and their own charity and self-praise.
The British Government responded with ill-disguised fury tonight to the news that four Chinese Uighurs freed from Guantanamo Bay had been flown for resettlement on the Atlantic tourist paradise of Bermuda.
The four arrived on Bermuda in the early hours, celebrating the end of seven years of detention after learning that they were to be accepted as guest workers.
But it appears that the Government of Bermuda failed to consult with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the decision to take in the Uighurs – whose return is demanded by Beijing – and it could now be forced to send them back to Cuba or risk a grave diplomatic crisis.
Bermuda, Britain's oldest remaining dependency, is one of 14 overseas territories that come under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom, which retains direct responsibility for such matters as foreign policy and security.
"We've underlined to the Bermuda Government that they should have consulted with the United Kingdom as to whether this falls within their competence or is a security issue, for which the Bermuda Government do not have delegated responsibility," an FCO spokesman said.
"We have made clear to the Bermuda Government the need for a security assessment, which we are now helping them to carry out, and we will decide on further steps as appropriate."

Ewart Brown, the Bermudian Premier, said that the United States had agreed to bear the costs associated with relocating the men on the island.
In a statement, Mr Brown said the men have “the opportunity to become naturalised citizens and thereafter afforded the right to travel and leave Bermuda, potentially settling elsewhere", although he said that the resettlement of the inmates was still contingent on the advice from Britain.

To me, the “resettlement” of Gitmo detainees is actually the “seeding” of terrorists to more and more places than they could ever dreamed of being placed by Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
This whole war effort is descending into incomprehensible and dangerous insanity.
I never thought America could have another Revolution or a military coup—now it doesn’t seem all that far fetched.

The new passport rule is that in order to return to the U.S. from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean by LAND or SEA, you will need to have a U.S. passport. If you’re just coming by land across the Canadian or Mexican border, you can instead use a passport card or an enhanced driver’s license available in a few states (and we don’t have those in Texas). You’ve had to have a passport to return from those nations by air since 2007, which makes it very strange that some of you (Ian) are still getting caught at the airport with no passport. Tsk. Get one!
