Will you teach your son to talk about women and girls the way you talk about Sarah Palin and her daughters?
You called the married 45-year-old mother, grandmother and Alaska governor a "slutty flight attendant" on your national TV talk show because she happens to be a tall, beautiful and dynamic public figure who doesn't look, walk or talk the way you think she should.
You joked on national television about Palin's teenage daughter "getting knocked up" by professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez or solicited by the prostitute-addicted former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer because it's acceptable in your social and professional circles to sneer at the children of politicians you despise.
You admitted that your attacks on Palin's family were in "poor taste," but cackled while acknowledging your sophomoric judgment.
You expressed moral indignation at being misconstrued, yet you purposely omitted the name of the daughter you were mocking.
Fourteen-year-old Willow Palin was the daughter who accompanied Gov. Palin on her trip this week, not 18-year-old Bristol Palin, whom you now claim was the target of your feckless smear -- a smear you still insist is perfectly defensible. Look at yourself, Dave. Look at how lame your excuse-making was on your Wednesday night show:
"These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don't think it's funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn't put it in a joke..."
Tell us, great comic genius, how tacking on four years to the target daughter makes it funny? We unenlightened dim bulbs who live outside of Manhattan's boundaries don't get the joke.
Will you be able to explain it to your son?
Face it: David Letterman, late-night entertainer turned partisan hack and hit man, has a deranged obsession with Palin and her family that has crossed into rank bigotry and hatred. If the CBS network cares about basic standards of decency on public airwaves and if it cares at all about bolstering its shrinking audience, the network honchos will get Letterman a therapist pronto.
Over the past year, Letterman has displayed his sexist, elitist stripes in jibe after jibe aimed at Palin. Taken cumulatively, Letterman's mockery is about much more than expressing contempt for the popular GOP governor. It's a handy device to deride a broad class of working-class and middle-class women he holds in contempt:
"You know, she reminds me, she looks like the flight attendant who won't give you a second can of Pepsi. No, you've had enough. We're landing. Looks like the waitress at the coffee shop who draws a little smiley face on your check. Have a nice day."
"She looks like the dip sample lady at Safeway. She looks like the nurse who weighs you and then makes you sit alone in your underwear for 20 minutes. She looks like the Olive Garden hostess who says, 'I'm sorry, your table isn't ready yet.' She looks like the infomercial lady who says she made $64,000 a month flipping condos."
"She looks like the lady at the bakery who yells out '44! 45!' She looks like a real estate agent whose picture you see on the bus stop bench. That's who she looks like. She looks like the lady who has a chain of cupcake stores "
In November 2008, Letterman told tanking CBS News anchor Katie Couric that he was "aroused" by Palin. In March 2009, Letterman attacked Bristol and snickered about her being "knocked up" again.
Letterman reminds me of the lecher at the school bus stop. Or the aging creep lurking in the dirty magazine section at the 7-Eleven. Attention, CBS: Get him help now.
Help him get off the TV.
David who?
Don’t believe I’ve heard of him.
Bravo!!!!! Tell him girl!!!!
Actually what is worse is the stupid people who laugh at his jokes
I’ve watched him once 20 years ago. I found him disgusting and not funny at all. I have not watched him since
He’s doing a great job of that unassisted.
If the target of the "joke" was actually Bristol Palin, then the justification must be that she slept with a guy to whom she was not married and thus produced an illegitimate child.
Which is exactly what the mother of Letterman's son did.
NOW ON MSNBC: Discussion of Sarah...kinda one sided, though.
You know Dave, I’d have thought that a man who had the scare of a lifetime when it was revealed one of your close employees was involved in a plot to kidnap your son, that you’d have understood what family is about. But then I remember, you’re a liberal, and outside your own immediate family, no one else matters. You’re such a scumbag.
I am still waiting for Todd to kick his a$$!
David Letterman may look like a joke, but that doesn’t mean his jokes are funny.
He seems to be a bitter, nasty, angry man - oh wait, I forgot - in entertainment they call that “edgy”. Cool.
Let Dave be Dave...it proves our point.
Precisely, but you have to remember that Letterman is a liberal and all liberals are hypocrites.
I just had a flashback to many years ago when Letterman finally landed Madonna’s first appearance.
Even Madonna seemed creeped out by Letterman’s obsession with her sex life.
When you can creep out Madonna - that’s saying quite alot.
Letterman is like the comic at the cheap bar. You have to be pretty drunk to consider his jokes mildly amusing, because if you were sober, you’d walk out of the bar and never return.
Letterman is not ‘funny’ but he thinks he is and his inebriated audience thinks he is. Other than being on the wall TV in all-night bars, I don’t know anyone who actually watches him.
Therapy won't solve the problem. Dave has spiritual issues. He's a sinner and needs to repent of his sin and be regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit. Pray that God would save him from his wickedness.
Which is exactly what the mother of Letterman’s son did.
You took the words right from my mouth...
Here's an idea for Dave for his top ten list.
The top ten ways the Obama women spend their time in Paris.
Using the same standards this might be fun.
Dave is from Indiana actually.
BTW: Glamorizing redneck culture is like glamorizing ghetto culture. Just as shopping at Whole Foods and listening to NPR doesn't make you superior status-wise, nor does chewing tobacco and living like a slob make you morally superior.
Is there a place in the world for us folks who are neither latte-sipping pretentious poseurs OR slovenly rednecks? Methinks whoever runs for President needs to address the wide swathe of the population that is neither.
Competance and substance beat smarminess and/or style anyday of the week. Dave doesn't have the former (and never will), and Sarah still needs to prove she has it. Populist idiocy doesn't make you Nixon or Reagan, it makes you William Jennings Bryant.
He really said all that stuff about Palin? It’s amazing he’d show his contempt for stewardesses and waitresses, etc. As I read that I was thinking, “What makes him think these people he’s comparing her to are so contemptible as to make these comparisons hurt Palin? What’s wrong with the woman who puts a smiley face on your check?”
Note to all waitresses and other common people who have the displeasure of serving Letterman: He thinks you’re far beneath him and being nice to him is a waste of your energy.
What must be done is to let the network know that we are calling the sponsors of the show to tell them that we are boycotting their products until such time as they pull sponsorship from a show that will allow such a man on the air. In short, boycott all products that sponsor Letterman, and boycott the show.
Johnny was a comedian to be sure, but he was also a gentleman with class.
Dave Letterman - NOT!
Since I’ve stopped watching TV I’ve noticed that the masses are trained to think stuff is funny. They hear some trash and start comparing it to all the other trash they’ve heard over the years, the little “laugh” light goes off in their brain, and they laugh.
Sarah’s great—but not tall.
I have deleted CBS from my TV. It is no longer one of the recognized pre=programmed channels. I told CBS, and I hope other Freepers will do the same.
There really aren’t as many slovenly rednecks as you suppose.
Does David Letterman live in Indiana now? New York you say? Is New York a big city?
I don’t think it’s possible to be a modern Liberal if you’re not a hypocrite.
This is why NBC’s decision to go with Jay Leno to host the Tonight Show back in ‘92 looks so amazingly wise now, in retrospect.
Jay Leno spent the following 16 years kicking Letterman’s smarmy ass night after night after night. The number of times Letterman’s overnight numbers exceeded Leno’s, you can count on the fingers of your hands and probably have fingers left over.
Jay Leno = Class Act
David Letterman = No Class Loser & Perv
Hi everbody...did you hear the one about my wife, "She's a SLUT and my son's a BASTARD." he, he, he
Top 10 men who might knock up Sasha and Malia Obama. Or give Letterman's young son an STD.
BTTT
because he’s been trashing someone else’s Mom...
The fact is that glamorizing prole/lumpenprole culture, which was once the province of the left, is not a good thing. The key to a GOP victory is to reach those suburbanites who have been abandoning the GOP in droves due to incompetance and reputation as a rural party, but who are turned off by Obama's economic leftism. In short: If Sarah runs as Minnie Pearl, she loses.
I don’t think so either
“I am still waiting for Todd to kick his a$$!”
Todd could do it, or Sarah could do it, or Britol could, and SHOULD do it, and it Willow gets in there poor Dave doesn’t stand a chance. Piper could probably do some serious damage.
When Track gets back from Iraq, LOOK OUT!
I wonder if he’s going to tell his son about the “ho” that he, himself, knocked up... Oops! That would be Dave’s son’s mother... Probably not...
Mark
You watch MSNBC?
What you see as “glamorizing the redneck culture” (if there is such a thing) is the ability of people with something in common to laugh at ourselves. A lost talent.
To see redneck equated with ghetto is beyond the pale.
I watch Morning Joe from 6 to 9. I gotta get other people's views somewhere and my blood pressure is raised the least by watching Joe (sometimes) counterbalance the predominant liberal media spew coming from the rest of the show.
Mika, to me, thinks like a liberal elite but I've come to the conclusion that she is honest about it and at least somewhat willing to see alternate viewpoints. She doesn't engage in the sophistic spin of the democratic activists. For that honestly I like Mika (but almost none of her views.)
Fox and Friends is too saccharine for my taste. Too many cutsie segments. I'd rather have my blood boil over political matters than threaten my diabetes with F&F.
In short, know thine enemy in the least painful way possible... ;0)
At least we have manners.

It’s too bad dueling is not still permitted. Todd could have taken care of this long ago.
These mean-spirited, misogynictic liberal jerks used to get away with this stuff. No more. Letterman = pervert. Keep the pressure on.
Oh, “Dave’s Mom” was a one-hit wonder back in 1992, or something.
The operative word there being 'if'. CBS doesn't give a rat's patootie, they think this controversy represents ratings.
(Note to SeeBS - it DOESN'T!!)
Bears repeating.
