The only scenario that makes sense is if the companies were actually losing money with every car they sold. It makes me think of “The Producers”, where two guys tried to scam investors by selling 10,000% of a Broadway show and then doing their best to make it a flop so the investors wouldn’t be expecting to see any return. The show was a hit, so the guys had to destroy the show.

So, let’s see, who owns more of the car companies than they’re worth... hmmm?

This reminds me of all those farms being auctioned off by the banks back in the early 80’s.

Where’s Willy Nelson and the Hands Across America and Dealership Aid for these guys?

I have bought from this dealership and used them for service (and will continue to use them).

Quality, top notch people in a southern DFW community that is still pretty rural.

The nearest GM/Chrysler dealership will be over 20 miles away in Oak Cliff, a very urban environment for us country folks. Carlisle Chevrolet is also the dealer of choice for GM for all of Ellis County.

The town has had over 1,000 people petition GM to allow them to retain the dealership. These are some of the people that “O” has hurt in his race to remake our economy and punish conservatives.

I’ve never visited Carlisle but am very familiar with them due to being employed by other GM dealerships such as Sewell Cadillac, Rodger Meier Cadillac (until they sold out in 1999), and Friendly Chevrolet. This is a terrible blow to Waxahachie. Who the heck wants to drive to Oak Cliff? Nobody with a grain of sense would want to go to a crime-ridden area like that.

This stinks to high Heaven and the owner’s statement nearly brought tears to my eyes. He is right about what is happening to our country and how far it has changed from the founding fathers ideals. This is all political, IMO. I despise this current administration and what they are doing, not only to car dealers, but to every citizen in this country. Now some may like what’s going on but in my heart I have to believe that the majority of Americans are going to wake up soon and put a stop to this illegal and outrageous behavior on the part of government.

Just got done watching most of this hearing (led by Congressman Stupak) - The presidents of GM and Chrysler flanked by six or seven "terminated" dealers, being questioned by ten or so very mad and frustrated Congressmen - dramatic and electrifying, and some very sad and outrageous stories (one dealer who was at one hundred and fifty percent of his sales quota and a perfect five rating for customer satisfaction closed, while one with an inadequate one rating remains open) - hearings touch on political manipulation in some of the closings, lack of communication and planning from the companies, and pecularities of funding of the dealerships - fascinating and informative viewing....

Scheduled for replay this morning at about 2:50 AM EDT on C-Span.......

All these closings ar epolitical and they just show that you no longer have a right to make a living iif you’re a critic of the government in the People’s Republic of Obamastan.

These closings are illegal and the Extreme Court knows it. They are contract violations and they violate the First Amendment. But like everyone else, teh Justices probably fear what can happen to them if they oppoe BO.

I may be wrong - but I have heard that the Administration TOLD GM and Chrysler which dealerships to close ...

I have also heard that a disproportionate number of closed dealerships (regardless of their profitability or non-profitability) DID NOT support Obama in the election ...

It makes one wonder ...

Precisely.

We need Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Glenn Beck to start talking about this.

I am willing to bet that it can be proved fairly easily that Obama has chopped off all federal funding to McCain supporters, while funneling money to Obama supporters.

They have admitted it for proof. They said most dealers are rich so they give to Republicans. EVERY MSM pundit agreed that must be why all but 1 closed dealership owner was Republican. No one even blinked. I guess Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are poor Democrats now. They and all the Hollywood stars get to keep their money cause they are all poor now.

There will be no further explaination as to the criteria they used to close dealers.

This is BEYOND outrageous !!!! It's shocking to see what's happening to these hard-working, tax paying good citizens and job creators. I'm heartbroken, sick to my stomach for that dealer who was dumped by both GM and Chrysler and all the dealers .. how can this be happening ? MUST watch the video ... I'm out of ample words. We are Venezuela.

Video of Texas GM and Chrysler dealer

"Frank A. Blakenbeckler III, from Waxahachie, Texas, owns the oldest Chevrolet dealership in the state of Texas, operating since 1926, when it was founded by his maternal grandfather.

He choked back tears as he told the committee, "It took me nearly 20 years to pay my parents for Carlisle Chevrolet. It took GM and Chrysler a mere 24 hours to steal Carlisle Chevrolet from me. This makes no sense. Why is this happening?"

Blankenbeckler's pain was palpable in the hearing room as he continued, "I am hurt. I feel violated. I am extremely angry. I wear my father's Bronze Star lapel pin on my coat. He was a member of the greatest generation. I am glad he is not alive to witness this travesty."

With the obvious sympathy that is being shown for the dealers on this thread, is there any point at all in saying that GM and Chrysler can't sell enough cars to keep all these dealers in business? That was an article of faith here before word leaked that the process of choosing who would get the axe was political.

OK, Obama corrupts everything he touches. We know that. But, I'll say it again: GM and Chrysler don't sell enough cars to keep all the dealers in business.

What next? Will we start to sympathize with the assembly line clock watchers?

Not if you're talking about dealers that were selling cars, turning a profit, and still found themselves getting closed. Sure, if people aren't cutting it, give them the axe. That's just business. In a macro sense, you're right, GM and Chrysler aren't selling enough cars overall. Closing some dealers that aren't producing is fine.

Closing dealers that ARE producing means that you can't sell the cars that you DO have. Which makes no sense at all, yet is clearly happening.

We CAN”T get the basic information out,let alone our message! If you can’t get national coverage on 10,000 Blacks rioting in S Philly on May 30th....good luck trying to get someone elected.

I hate to say it but being in business now a days you can't trust any of your suppliers. If they are not copying your product and trying to go around you they are raising prices any chance they get and changing the stats of the product.

For any dealer selling anything the safest method is to have more than one vendor.

For car dealers have three of four cars they sell besides the big three, just makes good sense, lose one go with the others.

Smartest thing he can do at this juncture is to get another brand and keep his already loyal customers. Many will keep buying form him regardless of the brand.

People buy trust and track records as well as brands. This guy obviously has both he should not give up.

It smells like a backroom deal.

GM closes a lot of dealerships and creates a "price fixing" situationwhere shoppers (you and me) are forced to accept higher prices. No more shopping around. Everywhere you go, you pay the full price.

Towns don't have 3 dealers - they have one. One can be bullied into line. Three can't.

Each dealer makes more cause there's no real "sales" and the car manufacturer can jack up the prices by passing along the "customer rip-off".

It explains why the fewer dealers means more business thing works - price fixing.

I can't answer that political question, but the dealership is mostly Anglo and Hispanic workers. I would suspect that most people who like to work on cars are pretty conservative.

Very blue collar, off-the-farm, hard working gentlemen.

If GM and Chrysler needed to terminate agreements, there are procedures available in every dealership agreement for termination, transfer and remediation.

If GM doesn't even honor their own lawyerly contracts with their dealers, then why would they honor a warranty with me?
