The diamond city, considered one of the safest for women, woke up to a rude shock on Friday when a teenaged girl belonging to a well-known family was gangraped around daybreak. Two of the alleged rapists are sons of policemen.
The 17-year-old class XII student was going to tuition classes along with a friend when three people tricked her into a car near Civil Hospital crossroads at 5.30 am.
Worse, the entire crime was captured by the culprits on a cell phone, with the idea of blackmailing the victim.
Surat police arrested three persons, all aged between 25 and 30 years, and also recovered the video clip from them.
The victim left home at 5 am for classes near Majura Gate and met a friend near Civil Hospital crossroads.
While the two were exchanging books on the roadside, where they had parked their two-wheelers, three persons drew close in an Opel Astra car and asked both of them to get in.
The driver told them he was a police official and that they would have to accompany them to the police station. Once the scared kids got in, the car drove towards Dumas beach — a lonely stretch at that hour.
The three took turns to rape the girl on the back seat while the other two kept the teenaged boy pinned down on the front seat. After an hour-long ordeal, they were dropped at the same crossroads at 6.45 am.
The victim’s friend went to school from there while the girl returned home. She first washed her clothes, which may have destroyed some evidence. However, unable to bear the trauma, she broke down before family members.
The family immediately approached the police which got her medically examined. Tests proved she was raped. A forensic examination of the car was on.
About eight hours later, the accused — Shahid Saiyad, Tariq Qutubuddin Saiyad and Abu Bakr Shaikh — were nabbed from their residences in Habibsha Maholla in Kadarsha Ni Naal.
Shahid’s father NG Saiyad is a police inspector in Dholka while Tariq’s father Qutubuddin Saiyad is a head constable in Mahidharpura police station in Surat.
While Bakr runs a mobile phone business, the other two are vagabonds. There are fears the incident may take communal overtones.

India has the death penalty for rape. and Gujarat is pretty harsh on criminals. These three are dead men walking.

These three most likely won’t be raped (homosexuality is illegal), but what they will endure, will make them wish they were.

Depending on where it is as regards the make up of the area demographically...these boys may not make it to trial there.
Also, there may be some serious retribution.
Either way, in India they can (and probably will) face the death penalty.

Police nab 3 rape accused within hours of crime

GUJARAT: Taking swift action, the Surat police succeeded in nabbing all the three accused in a kidnapping and gang rape case within hours of the crime.
According to the Surat Police Commissioner, Deepak Swaroop, two of the accused turned out to be sons of police personnel, the father of one being posted in Surat itself and the other being recently transferred to Banaskantha district in north Gujarat.
The police said the victim of the gang rape, a 17-year old girl from a well-do-do family in the city, was going to tuition classes early in the morning on Friday accompanied by a boyfriend when the accused in a car approached them.

The accused introduced themselves as policemen and told the duo that they would have to be taken to the police station for indecency in the public as they had been found in a “compromising position” under a fly-over. The two were forced into the car and were taken to the outskirts of the city where the boy was tied to a tree and the girl gang-raped in the car and later abandoned on the roadside.
After the father of the girl lodged a police complaint, the police swung into action and picked up the three accused, Saeed Sayed and Tariq Sayed, both sons of policemen, and Abu Bakr, all in their twenties. The police claimed that all the three had confessed their crime during the preliminary interrogation.

Earlier on Saturday, a mob led by workers of the Vishwa Hindu Sewa Samiti, a saffron outfit, converged at the New Civil Hospital here and attacked two of the three accused whom the cops had taken there for a medical examination. The mob hit and kicked the youths until the team of cops managed to get reinforcements. It was only after the cops threatened to open fire that the mob dispersed.
The police had arrested Shahid Saiyed, Tarik Saiyed and Abubakar Shaikh, all residents of Bhagatalo in Surat, on charges of abducting and raping a schoolgirl and capturing the act on mobile phones. Medical examination of the victim had confirmed rape.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Subhash Trivedi, meanwhile, urged the people to keep their faith in the judiciary. “I have talked to both the accused and they have not suffered severe injuries in the attack,” he said.
