N. Korea vows to start enriching uranium, weaponize new plutonium
Yonhap ^

SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- North Korea said Saturday it will start enriching uranium and weaponize all new plutonium, protesting the U.N. Security Council resolution expanding sanctions on it.

The North, which triggered the resolution after its second nuclear test on May 25, also said it will "respond militarily" if the U.S. and other countries attempt what it called a "blockade."

The resolution calls on states to conduct inspections of North Korea ships suspected of carrying materials related to weapons of mass destruction.

Great, and knowing that Obama is sleeping comfortably in his cozy little bed without a care in the world makes me feel oh so safe..NOT..Perhaps he needs to go to North Korea and give them a nice little speech about how America is the enemy and to please forgive us for our sins. We all know Obama won’t do a damn thing to stop them

(LEAD) N. Korea vows to fight U.S. with ‘willpower’

NorthKorea

SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) — North Korea urged its people Tuesday to be armed with willpower against the United States and warned not to depend on allied nations, as the country faces new international sanctions for its recent nuclear test.

The full-page editorial by the Rodong Sinmun, the North’s main newspaper published by the Workers Party of Korea, apparently pointed to China, which has rebuked the May 25 nuclear explosion and is now working on a punitive resolution with the U.N. Security Council.

“We will win when we fight the (U.S.) imperialists to the end, and there will be only shame and disgrace if we surrender,” the paper said. “The confrontation with the imperialists is a war of willpower.”

"North Korea said Saturday it will start enriching uranium and weaponize all new plutonium,..."

I don't believe it for one minute! Do they know who they are dealing with! Barack Hussein Obama! He'll wipe them off the map! I cannot believe that a rogue dictator with nuclear weapons would even think about challenging a RAGING METROSEXUAL!

Tougher UN sanctions on DPR Korea send ‘clear and strong’ message – Ban

Security Council members gather before unanimously voting to adopt a resolution expanding financial sanctions on the DPRK
12 June 2009 – The United Nations Security Council today imposed tougher sanctions on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), including a tighter arms embargo, sending what Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called a “clear and strong” message to Pyongyang following last month’s nuclear test.
By unanimously adopting resolution 1874, the 15-member body condemned the 25 May nuclear test conducted in “violation and flagrant disregard” of relevant Council resolutions, particularly 1695 (2006) and 1718 (2006).

It also demanded that the DPRK “not conduct any further nuclear test or any launch using ballistic missile technology.”

The Council imposed a series of measures on the DPRK that include tougher inspections of cargo suspected of containing banned items related to the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities, a tighter arms embargo with the exception of light weapons and new financial restrictions.

Mr. Ban welcomed the adoption of resolution 1874, and hoped that the DPRK and all Members States will fully comply with it.

“Acting unanimously and agreeing on credible measures, the members of the Security Council have sent today a clear and strong message to the DPRK,” Mr. Ban’s spokesperson said in a statement.

“The Secretary-General reiterates his conviction that all differences should be resolved in a peaceful manner through dialogue,” the statement added.

In this regard, Mr. Ban called on the concerned parties to refrain from taking any measures that can exacerbate tensions in the region and to exert their best efforts to re-engage in dialogue, including through the Six-Party Talks that brings together DPRK, Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the United States.

Also by today’s resolution, the Council requested the Secretary-General to establish, for an initial period of one year, a group of seven experts to assist the Committee set up to monitor the sanctions imposed on DPRK to carry out its mandate.

The Council also called on all Member States to report to it within 45 days, and thereafter upon the Committee’s request, on concrete measures taken to implement key provisions of resolution 1874.

It pledged to keep the DPRK’s actions under continuous review and to consider strengthening, modifying, suspending or lifting the measures in light of the country’s compliance with the Council’s resolutions.

Acting unanimously and agreeing on credible measures, the members of the Security Council have sent today a clear and strong message to the DPRK.

The Secretary-General hopes that the DPRK and all other Member States will fully comply with the measures contained in the resolution.

At the same time, the Secretary-General reiterates his conviction that all differences should be resolved in a peaceful manner through dialogue. AP Source: NKorea May Be Prepping New Nuclear Test

Published: June 11, 2009

WASHINGTON (AP) — North Korea may be preparing for its third nuclear test, a show of defiance as the United Nations considers new sanctions on the dictatorship for conducting an underground nuclear explosion in May, according to a U.S. government official.

North Korea conducted an underground explosion on May 25, its first since a 2006 atomic test. The official, who spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity in order to discuss the unreleased information, would not provide details regarding the assessment.

A draft U.N. resolution proposed Wednesday would impose tough sanctions on North Korea’s weapons exports and financial dealings and allow inspections of suspect cargo in ports and on the high seas. North Korea has threatened to retaliate if new sanctions are adopted.

North Korea already is a pariah to many countries and has been under tough economic sanctions for years. Last month’s reported test defied a Security Council resolution adopted after the North’s first underground atomic blast in October 2006.

The White House National Security Council would not comment on the assessment of a possible third nuclear test in the works.

A Unanimous Vote on North Korea
Posted by Katherine Brandon

The United Nations Security Council sent a clear and united message today when they voted unanimously to tighten sanctions on North Korea following the nation’s recent nuclear test and missile firings. The detonation on May 25 of the suspected nuclear device violated the 1953 armistice.

U.N. Resolution 1874 includes a number of measures aimed at stopping North Korea’s nuclear proliferation, including tougher inspections of cargo, an expanded arms embargo, and new financial restrictions on North Korea, curbing loans and money transfers that serve as funding for their nuclear program.

In remarks today following the vote on Resolution 1874, United States Ambassador Rosemary DiCarlo said that North Korea chose a path of provocation, and now they must face the consequences. She said that the United States welcomes the strong and united response to North Korea’s nuclear test, and is committed to implementing the provisions outlined by the Security Council:

The message of this resolution is clear: North Korea’s behavior is unacceptable to the international community, and the international community is determined to respond. North Korea should return without conditions to a process of peaceful dialogue. It should honor its previous commitments to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. It should shun provocation and proliferation. But for now, its choices have led it to face markedly stronger sanctions from the international community.

This resolution condemns North Korea’s nuclear test in the strongest terms. It strengthens and enhances sanctions on North Korea in five critically important areas: by imposing a total embargo on arms exports from North Korea and significantly expanding the ban on arms imports; by creating a wholly new framework for states to cooperate in the inspection of ships and aircraft suspected to be carrying weapons of mass destruction or other banned goods; by calling on states and international financial institutions to disrupt the flow of funds that could support North Korea’s missile, nuclear, or proliferation activities; by committing to designate for targeted sanctions additional goods, entities, and individuals involved in North Korea’s illicit behavior; and, finally, by strengthening the mechanisms to monitor and tighten the implementation of this toughened new sanctions regime. These measures are innovative, they are robust, and they are unprecedented.

Ambassador Susan Rice, in comments at today’s press briefing, described the resolution as “a very robust, tough regime with teeth that will bite North Korea”:

Well, first of all, it would be unwise for the United States or other members of the Security Council to fail to take strong action in response to a very provocative and illegal action on the part of North Korea out of concern that they may take strong action. I mean, the point is that we needed to demonstrate — and today we have demonstrated — that provocative, reckless actions come at a cost and that North Korea will pay a price for its actions.

And it is obviously the case that they have behaved irresponsibly in the past and we would not be surprised to see them behave irresponsibly in the future. We will be focused, as I said earlier, on the full and effective implementation of this sanctions regime on our part and that of others. And we believe that its full implementation will have a substantial impact on North Korea.

We’re working with China and Russia and South Korea, Japan, other neighboring states who have a great stake, as we do, in the issue of regional security and stability. They went along with these measures because they also believe that a strong signal needed to be sent to North Korea, and we fully expect them to implement these cooperatively with us and others.

If U.S. Accepts N. Korean Nuke, Calls for Nuclear Sovereignty Could Spread (message to US)

Ju Yong-joong

2009.06.13 02:51

Presidential Office: “Won’t discuss it at the upcoming summit. Could cause misunderstanding if we link it to N. Korean nuclear test.”

On June 12, ruling party’s policy committee publicly called for both S. Korean and U.S. governments to allow the ‘Restoration of Peaceful Nuclear Sovereignty,’ on the eve of S. Korea-U.S. summit, which is viewed as a prelude to things to come. Instead of pushing S. Korean government to ‘raise this issue right now at the upcoming summit, it would serve as a message to U.S. that if America continue to avoid getting tough on N. Korea, push for peaceful nuclear sovereignty would continue.

The ruling party revealed that they need to push ‘peaceful nuclear sovereignty ‘ as a counterweight, just in case U.S. accepts N. Korea as a nuclear state. As a matter of fact, some in U.S. suggest that ‘N. Korea is already a nuclear state’ while evaluating N. Korea’s nuclear capability. In this context, push for completed nuclear cycle(note: right to reprocess spent nuclear material) advocated by the ruling party is reminding U.S. that ‘S. Korea cannot afford to do nothing’ if U.S. acquiesces N. Korea’s nuclear weapons.
