Posted on 06/13/2009 11:23:12 PM PDT by neverdem
The Obama administration has so far dealt publicly with the North Korean challenge in an understated, almost leisurely, manner.
Emphasizing continued reliance on multilateral diplomacy, it has invited Pyongyang to return to the conference table, even while North Korea threatens military action and tests nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them in the face of a declaration by all the major world powers that such actions are unacceptable.
The challenge goes far beyond the regional security issue. For America, it involves relations with an emerging superpower (China); relations with a re-emerging Russia; relations with key U.S. allies (Japan and South Korea); and a major escalation in the threat of proliferation to non-state parties.
The resumption of nuclear and missile testing by North Korea represents an abrupt reversal of a negotiating process that has been going, with only brief interruptions, for nearly two decades.
Since 2004, six-party talks in Beijing included all the countries (North and South Korea, China, Russia, Japan and the United States) directly threatened by North Korean missiles and nuclear weapons. For a while, it was argued that bilateral negotiations between the United States and North Korea would prove more effective.
That debate has become largely academic. Both approaches were pursued; both contributed to the stalemate inherited by the Obama administration.
I favored negotiations with Pyongyang and have occasionally participated in Track II dialogue with Korean officials outside...
De facto acquiescence in a North Korean nuclear program would require a reconsideration of current U.S. strategic planning. More emphasis would need to be given to missile defense. It would be essential to redesign the American deterrent strategy in a world of multiple nuclear powers a challenge unprecedented in our experience. The enhanced role of non-state actors with respect to terrorism would have to be addressed...

Sorry Henry, it won’t happen.
Obama is feckless. He is unable to confront anyone except Joe the Plumber. He will neither deal effectively with the NK threat nor place any emphasis on missile defense. He will probably try to seek an understanding with NK and terrorist organizations not to use nuclear weapons on South Chicago or the UAW headquarters.
As for Hillary, her competence extends only to making shallow and facile criticisms of other administrations, amplified by a corrupt MSM. She is is utterly non-serious.
Naturally, the best Obama strategy is to appoint a North Korea Czar...and then pull out the old Bush negotiation pamphlet that says talk, talk, talk...and then brag about the talking on Sunday talk shows.
The best strategy in dealing with this mess? Declare North Korea a non-threat and start pulling troops out of the DMZ. Bring the 30,000 troops back to US soil. Then tell North Korea that any attack...now involves nuclear strike. Show them a map with 300 missile strikes and suggest that manpower is no longer enough to win a war.
Together, the U.S., Russia and China could disarm the nuclear Third World without firing a shot. But that won’t happen until there is a hostile nuclear detonation somewhere in the world.
I hope to God that we can detect these weapons as they are moved around by ship and by airplanes.
Once a few American cities have been nuked—and that day is definitely coming—then we will get serious. Maybe.
I just hope I am not alive to see it.
It sounds like Henry is getting nervous.
But King Barry of Kenya couldn't care less.
when you think about hillary.. she is a nature of circumstnce.. first bill was a nature of circumstance in that a lot of dems did not run in 1992 coz they thought they would lose... and if not for perot and the media.. he would never have been elected..
then beyond that.. if not for bill taking advantage of an intern, hillary would have been so popular and would not have been elected senator.. and if no senator no run for whitehouse and no secy of state..
thus we have a person who came to the job by mere fortune and not aptitude... and the same can be said for so many in obama’s administration..
that is why we are facing the collapse of the u.s.
We need Hanoi Jane to talk to the NK’s. She’s had experience in Viet Nam.
Kind of like a joke. Is there really a gauntlet thrown down when a person refuses to acknowledge there is a gauntlet in the first place? But then, 0 and the UN are jokes unto themselves.
President Obama’s Foreign Policy = Give a Speech
Expect “rubber-blubber” foreign policy from the US/Clinton State Dept....Clinton has stated to Planned Parenthood that at the top of US foreign policy priority is......”reproductive issues”.
“Houston, Texas, Mar 30, 2009 / 10:24 am (CNA).- Speaking at Planned Parenthood Federation of Americas national conference in Houston this past Friday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced that promoting reproductive rights including abortion- will be at the top of the governments international agenda.
After being honored by Planned Parenthood with the Margaret Sanger award for her work on behalf of womens health and reproductive rights, the Secretary of State said I have to tell you that it was a great privilege when I was told that I would receive this award. I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision.
Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was openly sympathetic with to Nazi Germanys eugenic practices and was strongly committed to preventing blacks, Hispanics and poor people from reproducing.
Praising the organization that endorsed her after during her unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, Clinton said that the overarching mission of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the cause of reproductive freedom that you continue to advance today is as relevant in our world now as it was a hundred years ago.
Yet, she continued, we know that Margaret Sanger’s work here in the United States and certainly across our globe is not done. Here at home, there are still too many women who are denied their rights because of income, because of opposition, because of attitudes that they harbor. But around the world, too many women are denied even the opportunity to know about how to plan and space their families. They’re denied the power to do anything about the most intimate of decisions.
I want to assure you that reproductive rights and the umbrella issue of women’s rights and empowerment will be a key to the foreign policy of this Administration, she assured as the crowd applauded.
I believe that women’s rights and empowerment is an indispensible ingredient of smart power and therefore is integrated into our renewed emphasis on diplomacy and development and I was very proud when President Obama repealed the Mexico City policy, Clinton said, eliciting thunderous applause.
As a result, nongovernmental organizations overseas can once again use U.S. funding to provide the full range of family planning services so that women and their families can get access to the healthcare that they need, she said.
Clinton officially announced that the United States will once again fund family planning, including abortion as an option, through the United Nations. We are going to fund a contribution of $50 million this fiscal year. That’s a 130 percent increase over our last contribution, which was made in 2001. Congress has also approved the Administration’s request for $545 million in bilateral assistance for family planning and reproductive health programs this year, she informed the audience.
The Secretary of State also revealed that Obamas policy towards dismantling and defeating al-Qaeda and their allies in Afghanistan and Pakistan will include assisting women’s development in those two countries because we know that access to family planning broadens the horizons and expands the vision of women everywhere.
Clinton then connected national security and political instability around the world with the need to promote family planning and abortion.
Simply put, infant mortality is connected to a lower quality of life. And a lower quality of life is the by-product of inadequate healthcare, including inadequate family planning options.
Moreover, Clinton claimed that Indonesia in ten short years has moved from tyranny to democracy because of the coexistence of Islam, modernization, and women’s rights.
There is a connection between the commitment to family planning and the secular democracy that Indonesia has become, she argued.
Clinton then said that NGOs like Planned Parenthood are one of the great exports that America has, and said that, at the end of the next four years, I hope that we’ll be able to look around the world and see that it is more peaceful, more prosperous, more progressive, and that, in particular, women’s voices will be heard at every place where important decisions are made, and that organizations like Planned Parenthood will be our partners.
Clinton ended her speech by thanking Planned Parenthoods leadership for its advocacy for women’s reproductive health in deliberations about the Obama Administrations future healthcare system”
It’s only a matter of time before one of the third world nuclear powers use nukes. Playing defense as Mr. Kissinger suggests is the most dangerous course. Lean forward, not back.
“But King Barry of Kenya couldn’t care less. “
Of course not. Odumbo and Kim Jong share the same vision of destroying the US.
Yes, Henry, I haven’t missed your recommendation that we go with “all the major world powers”. New World Order, right?
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign or military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
It’s really something when Henry K. doesn’t want to “talk”. This shows that he is clearly worried about the REAL threat that President Purple Lips doesn’t even See. In fact, his entire administration are the WORST thing to have ever taken office in the United States and certainly the most dangerous and corrupt. A pack of utter self absorbed, but dangerous, idiots!! I worry about my American cousins a lot. CO
Senile old fool ,you are fine until you jump on the Climate Change garbage,go back to drooling somewhere else
I had a similar reaction, but it's good that he put the White House on notice about North Korea. The White House didn't want to be bothered with foreign policy. They just wanted to hope for a miracle with the economy, energy and health care.
Its what they wanted, The American Idol President. It made them feel good voting for a black man. It made them feel all special that they weren't prejudice anymore. Besides he's cool, he smokes cigarettes and doesn't have to read 800 billion dollar spending bills, before signing. And he has 16 Czars. (at last count).
Can we make it through this? How many will die or be financially destoyed for feeling good about voting for the American Idol President?
Emphasizing continued reliance on multilateral diplomacy, it has invited Pyongyang to return to the conference table, even while North Korea threatens military action and tests nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them -- in the face of a declaration by all the major world powers that such actions are "unacceptable."NK's action and the UN's failure to act weakens NK's hand with the Chinese and weakens the UN. Eventually, the Chinese will intervene in NK, probably sooner than later. This whole fiasco has embarrassed and enraged the Chinese gov't, and makes them look like pussies to the region.
I guess this means there are still those whom Sanger deemed inferior who have not been sterilized.
0bama will do nothing except give more speeches. Eventually, American cities will vaporize, but that is probably OK with him if he and his thugs get to reign over the rubble and do what they want with the remains.
That sort of leadership style was once the subject of a longish article in Atlantic Monthly, about 20 years ago. Three personality types in their sorter, or intelligence types. One was the dominative type you described, concerned only with relative positioning in the group. It's the dominant personality style in government and business since the Depression. The other two are more creative, results-oriented, and sociable.
The point of the article was, we have been living under a sort of tyranny of the mismotivated, and the country is suffering as a result, with inventions and copyrights declining as a share of world activity and so on.
Wonder what Kissenger says. will read the above.
Should be a clue as to the Oligarchy’s stance and games with NK.
Thanks for the ping!
That’s my question also - Can you make it through this? I don’t know. Now, there is an Amendment to remove Term Limits for Presidents? I knew this wouldn’t take long. He plans to be your Czar in Chief for life. Something very wrong is taking place in America. CO
I think this is a huge mistake, figuring Obama for a dummy.
He has the support of an extensive Marxist network that has been planning for the chance to overreach the United States people for 50 years or more. They are disciplined and smart and dangerous.
Sharpen up, everybody.
