The Loneliest Woman in New York

By LYNNLEY BROWNING

SHE used to get foil highlights every six weeks — her shade is Soft Baby Blonde, and she was religious about color — but the last time she called her Manhattan salon, Pierre Michel on East 57th Street, she was told not to return. “I understand,” she said, according to the salon’s co-owner.

The Amagansett florist who decorated her husband’s annual corporate party in Montauk with lismachia, Queen Anne’s lace and thistles has banned her as a client, saying she will not associate with the wife of one of history’s most notorious financial scoundrels.

Even her sons, Mark and Andrew, who have not been charged by prosecutors but are banned by their lawyers from contact with their parents, have begun to refer to “Mom” and “Dad” as “Ruth” and “Bernie,” according to family friends.

"...saying she will not associate with the wife of one of history’s most notorious financial scoundrels. "

Liberals have such selective outrage.

Baby killers are fine company.

Mess with my money, however, and I hate not only you but your family as well.

It’s true. Even Bill Clinton refuses to sleep with her.

On the plus side, she’ll eventually get a reality show.

Perhaps she could read 'Leona's Memoirs'. Might feel better. Or. . .Mrs. Madoff could read of the life - and death - of Elena Ceauşescu - and her husband.

Life could be worse; were she living ANYwhere else; the unfolding elsewhere, most likely, would be quite ugly.

Asked if she would accept Mrs. Madoff again as a client, Beth Eckhardt, who runs Amagansett Flowers by Beth on Long Island, said: “Are you kidding? No way! No way! No way! I mean, really.”

Oriente Mania, the general manager of Sette Mezzo, an Italian restaurant on Lexington near 70th Street, said he would open his doors to Mrs. Madoff only if she paid $160 due from a meal she and her husband had in December. While Mr. Madoff had written a check to cover the bill, prosecutors had blocked it from being cashed, he said.

Don’t tell me the sons are completely innocent.

I find it very difficult to believe any father would do this to his own sons without sliding them an envelope with instructions not to open for 7 years or something.

The old joke is many of Madoff's investors knew it was an illegal scam. The new joke is the same "victims" would like taxpayer money to be reimbursed for their terrible losses....

No Apology From Ruth Madoff

Investors’ Money From Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi Scam Funded Lavish Lifestyle

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=7628205&page=1

“Why would you have sympathy for his wife in any of these circumstances?” asked Jon Landers, an attorney representing some of Madoff’s victims. “She was one of the largest beneficiaries of the fraud. She enjoyed a very rich lifestyle that practically everyone would love to emulate and it was paid for by someone else,” Landers said.

Documents recently released illustrate a lavish lifestyle that was funded by investors’ money. American Express corporate platinum card statements show the Madoffs spent freely around the world.

There was a $1,900 dinner at a New York City restaurant.

Ruth Madoff spent nearly $3,800 on a Paris shopping spree.

Their sons, Andrew and Mark, spent more than $13,000 on a ski trip in Jackson Hole, WY.

Madoff loaned his brother, Peter, $9 million using investors’ money. Peter’s wife, Marion, was also on the payroll earning $163,500 a year even though there is no evidence she ever performed work, according to the documents.

“The documentation in this affidavit clearly places family members and others in a middle of a laundry list of white collar crime,” Garrett said.

In their go-go days, Bernie and Ruth were quite the jet setters, using stolen money to cultivate the sophisticated image of old money socialites.

Now their Palm Beach house, the oceanfront estate on New York’s Long Island, and the villa and yacht on the Riviera have all been seized or sold.

Ruth Madoff charged over $3,700 to a Madoff corporate American Express card on a Paris shopping spree in January 2008, according to court documents. She picked up the latest fashions from designer powerhouses Giorgio Armani Jil Sander, and Marni.

Over $940,000 in country club charges were paid out of company funds including fees to the Palm Beach Country Club and the Trump International Golf Club, according to court documents.

Right, this woman living a life filled with comforts and luxuries most of us can never dream of due to the billions stolen by her husband is “the loneliest woman in New York”. Not one of the many poor souls who happen to live in New York without any friends or family to speak of, making their livings as best they can. What a disgusting article.

Ruth needs to give up every penny, every stick of furniture, every stitch of clothing, and every piece of jewelry. She needs to get an honest job, earning an honest living - no book deals, no money of any kind squeezed out of Bernie’s fraud. Then people will begin to associate with her. Thus far she hasn’t paid any penance. Losing that which you stole isn’t the same. Decent people won’t stand for it.

My heart bleeds...did anyone see FOX’s report about the Madoff scandal yesterday? IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE. How this man could have operated so long is mind-boggling. The govenment dropped the ball...plain and simple and I hope they go after every last one of those accomplices. Today, I got a call from a friend who told me her mother lost 1.5m with Madoff. So sad.

If this had happened in India, an angry mob would have already burnt down her house.

Sometimes, angry mobs just plain ROCK.

FOX did a report on the Madoff scandal yesterday and what struck me was how everyone turned a blind eye to the OBVIOUS malpractice. According to the report, his trading reports on certain days stated trades outside the daily range...In addition, sometimes statements revealed purchases that exceeded the amount of trades of that given day. SO THEY KNEW.

You have a point there....what did this woman really do that was wrong? It was her husband, not her. Does anyone treat Mrs. Tiller this way? I have not heard anything. Oh no...poor Mrs. Tiller, her hubby was a hero, but this woman, Mrs. Madoff is scorned? Come on...liberals grow up!
