Birth control pills protect against some cancers and slightly increase the risk of others. Breast cancer at age 27 is almost certainly due to genetics, but artificial hormone intake can aggravate certain types of cancer in people who are already prone to them. The hormone levels associated with pregnancy can also energize these types of cancers.

Probably the number one thing responsible for out-of-whack hormone levels in our society has nothing at all to do with hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills. It’s the unnaturally sedentary lifestyle of the “information age” and the closely associated high rates of excess weight. Levels of fat and muscle in the body are simply HUGE drivers of hormone levels, and anything we’re doing with pills and creams and injections is likely a drop in the bucket compared to the unnatural effects of a lifetime of sedentary existence and excess food intake. For women, carrying just a few extra pounds sharply increases breast cancer risk — a significant effect has been found even at “normal” weights, starting with weight of just 5% more than when the woman was college-aged.

I’m so sorry to hear you lost your kitty. I’ve nursed two super-geriatric cats through their old age, and got sooooooo close to both of them. It was a lot of work and money, and painful to lose them, but I’d do it all over again. They enjoyed a good quality of life in spite of their old age ailments. Neither of my super-oldies had cancer though. Only one I’ve ever lost to cancer was a mere 14 years old (kidney cancer).

I don't remember exactly what BC pills do, it's been quite a while since I researched the subject. I do remember however that the incidences of breast cancer shot up drastically shortly after BC pills were introduced.

It's very hard ignore that glaring coincidence. I suppose there could be another cause, but last I looked there haven't been any gremlins offered up.

I also find it odd why our guardian angel, the FDA allows BC pills to be so widely prescribed without at least a warning, considering they would ban any herbal remedy or even food that claims to cure anything.
Well maybe not that suprised if one follows the money.

Imagine the law suits that would fly if things came to light in a bad way.

Early BC pills had heavier doses of hormones....now they aren’t quite as heavy. But, wait until the teens who were prescribed the pills for “cramps” in the last 10-20 years start dying....messing around with hormones in young people is idiotic. But, now they have, what, a shot for some kind of cancer that could be prevented with “clean living” (HPV, I think) and they are pushing that on teens. I don’t trust the FDA...on much either.

Um, yes I’ve heard of estriol. It’s made out of estrone (either directly, or via estradiol), and is naturally made by those precursors travelling through the liver, where the necessary enzymes for the conversion are found. The question is, why would anyone need to take estriol directly unless, she had a defect or deficiency in the enzymes that convert estrone and estradiol to estriol? In the absence of clear evidence that the body is unable to produce the proper balance on its own, even when an ample supply of precursors are provided, I think it makes a lot more sense to just take the precursors.

There *are* various conditions in which the body is unable to convert precursors into the needed array of hormones. Some are genetic defects in enzymes and others involve damage to key organs that produce certain of these enzymes. For example, people with kidney failure often lose the ability to convert vitamin D from dietary and/or sunlight sources into its active form (calcitriol) because the kidney is no longer able to produce a key enzyme needed for that conversion process. For those people, direct supplementation of calcitriol is needed. But it would make no sense at all (and potentially be very dangerous) to take calcitriol to correct a calcitriol deficiency, when your body is perfectly capable of converting dietary vitamin D to calcitriol, and just needs to be provided with adequate amounts of dietary vitamin D.

I take the precursors.....and a little of the estriol....and my tests reflect that....without that....well...who knows. I probably have a genetic issue somewhere since at menopause my body fell apart....almost literally. And, I do not think I am alone....also, estriol is now being seen as an issue for MS patients from what I read....so, I imagine there are quite a number of people who have conversion deficiencies. Thanks for your info.

It’s actually very beneficial for teens (and older women) who have endometriosis to take birth control pills. Endometriosis is a progressive disease, and birth control pills bring the progression to virtually a complete halt. If not halted, not only do the symptoms get worse and worse, but it’s also a fairly common cause of infertility. There’s also been some scary research showing that in at least some women who have both endometriosis and migraines, the source and timing of the migraines is explained by stray endometrial tissue which has ended up in the brain, and is flaring up there with each menstrual cycle. Dietary and lifestyle factors may be contributing to the incidence of endometriosis (though I don’t think that’s actually been established), but regardless of how the endometriosis got started, once a teenager or adult woman is experiencing distressing symptoms from it, starting on birth control pills is a smart move in the vast majority of cases.

We lost our 19 year old cat (Tom) 9 years ago now. He was healthy his entire life despite being a kitten rescued from a litter a feral cat dropped in the middle of a hay field.

On the day he died, he just jumped on my lap and had a heart attack and died. Pee'd all over me in the process. His way of saying goodbye in his own 'funny' way. He was like that, always doing something mischievous then running away laughing.

Oddly, on mothers day a year after Tom died, (mothers day was also the day we found that kitten 19 years ago in the middle of a field), we found another liter, and a kitten with same markings- identical. We called him Tim. He's now 9 years old, never a health problem. And he's the exact same mischievous cat who thinks he's a dog (because he was also raised with big dogs and knows how to boss them around)

Isn't that uncanny?

Yes, I do think various hormone conversion problems are probably at the root of a lot of ailments. Hopefully, as technology advances, testing will become cheaper and more efficient, and the problem areas can be identified more readily and accurately. As it stands now, hormone testing is still pretty primitive — very occasional testing of a tiny fraction of the laundry list of hormones is the best that can be managed. Any resulting program of supplementation is going to be imperfect as a result. But I fiercely defend every American citizen’s right to experiment with hormone therapy (and any other kind of medical/health therapy) on their own terms. It really isn’t any of the AMA’s or the government’s business whether some of us end up making ourselves sicker through our experiments.

There are no hormone producing glands to keep healthy with a regiment of herbs and vitamins and eyes of gnats.

"but regardless of how the endometriosis got started, once a teenager or adult woman is experiencing distressing symptoms from it, starting on birth control pills is a smart move in the vast majority of cases."

Or drugs that simulate menopause. Alternatively, they can stay pregnant as often as possible. Or, if they don't want children, they can stop a bad case of it with a hysterectomy.

Women with no symptoms or mild symptoms may require no treatment whatsoever; women with severe symptoms may need a combination of treatments. Some cases of endometriosis can be controlled with lifestyle changes while others require medical intervention.

Many women with endometriosis find that simple lifestyle changes can be very helpful in managing their condition.

Since endometriosis has been linked to toxic chemicals, such as dioxin and PCBs, a physician or dietitian, may recommend minimizing or eliminating your intake of red meat. Environmental dioxins and PCBs are often found in animal fat.

Some women with endometriosis also benefit from reducing their intake of dairy products, as dairy products increase the production of prostaglandins, which in turn, can increase pain.

Also, instead of birth control pills, women with endometriosis can be treated with Progestins. Progestin treatment usually stops a woman from ovulating each month.

If birth control pills or other hormones are not wanted or effective, then other medications can be used, such as Danazol.

Danazol is a drug that lowers a woman’s estrogen levels and increases her testosterone levels. Ninety percent of women report that the medication relieves their symptoms, though it does not cure the disease. It stops a woman's menstrual period and the pain that accompanies it, and puts her body in a state similar to menopause.

Danazol can cause some nasty side effects. Besides turning a woman into a guy with greasy hair, it can cause ovarian cancer. Because of the side effects, it's not widely used, or only used for a short time.

GnRH analogs can also be used.
It is a hormone that regulates a woman's menstrual cycle. GnRH analogs cause a woman to stop having her period and produce a state that is similar, but not identical, to menopause.
Studies find that the illness returned in about 50 percent of women five years after they stopped taking GnRH drugs.

GnRH analogs are also used to treat other disorders in women, such as fibroids and polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

The family of GnRH drugs include Lupron, Zoladex, Synarel and Suprefact. The side effects of these drugs, which tend to be similar to those of menopause, include osteoporosis, hot flashes, mood swings, vaginal dryness, smaller breasts and headaches.

These treatments are given by injection (every three months, every month or every day). They are also available in the form of nasal spray. These drugs are very expensive.

Alternatively, endometriosis can be treated with Laparoscopy. The most common and most effective is laser laparoscopy. It can completely remove the endometriosis and there is less blood loss and less tissue damage than with other surgeries.
The success of this procedure depends on the extent of the endometriosis and how long the surgeon is able to spend on the surgery. For a case of extensive endometriosis, it may take hours to remove all the nodules.

Vaporization is another surgical method. Vaporization destroys endometrial tissue using a high-power laser.

There is also Coagulation. Coagulation is a technique that uses an electrical current to destroy endometrial tissue.

What about it? The pituratory gland isn't the only gland that produces hormones.
Why do you think it is when women have a total hysterectomy that they have terrible hormone problems? No amount of herbal remedies will correct this problem.

The majority of hormones are produced by the glands of the endocrine system, such as the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, the ovaries or testes.

The anterior pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, and pancreas produce peptide type of hormones.
The hormones secreted by the adrenal glands and ovaries or testes are called steroid hormones.

Not all hormones are produced by endocrine glands.
The mucous membranes of the small intestine secrete hormones that stimulate secretion of digestive juices from the pancreas.

I took testosterone too. When I first started taking replacement hormones I felt so good I swear I thought I could fly. After about 2 1/2 years it began to go the other way. By 5 years, when I quit, I was having all kinds of problems that went away when I stopped taking them altogether.

Thank you. I remember on an emergency visit; only like two in her 19 year history, she was bleeding. Turned out to be hair. The vet remarked at 14 years old she was in remarkable shape. He couldn’t believe it.

I really miss my sweet Eloise.

Bottom line, what is your options???

According to post 54 my mother-in-law is a prime example that alternatives DO work, see also post 75!

My wife also had a hysterectomy about 10 or 12 years ago, and I don't have to spend my days in our garage, because she has done something about nourishing her body in another direction that most in the medical profession don't have a clue about!!

Naturally, if we are going to have blind folders on and looking to the medical profession and big pharma for help the outlook is very grim, because of what they prescribe has serious side affect to our bodies, pure and simple. Here are some of the alternatives that has help my wife tremendously focusing on a "normal" lifestyle!!!

--------------- What Makes Prime™ Factor for Women – Human Growth Factor Formula Unique? In order to maintain a more youthful metabolic rate, Prime Factor for Women provides a blend of vitamins, minerals, pro-hormones and herbs that promote the normal growth and repair of cells and support the production of human growth hormone (HGH). HGH is a naturally occurring peptide hormone. Healthy levels of HGH are important because HGH promotes healthy growth and cell reproduction, helping to maintain a youthful vitality and support normal hormone production. This unique formulation provides a powerful set of human growth factors which play an important role in the aging process due to their ability to support metabolism.* Prime Factor for Women has been designed to support the natural release of hormones that may decline during the aging process to support cell function. Ingredients such as Angelica sinensis, tribulus terrestris and wild yam extract, which have long been used in China and Europe to help support, balance and optimize female hormonal function, specifically target several key biological areas in women that are vulnerable to age-related changes.* ========================================================================= Ultra Prime Secretagogue represents the next generation of HGH-producing products that is far more advanced, concentrated and cost-effective than previous formulations. It uses a special blend of nutritional ingredients that will naturally increase the production and release of HGH by the pituitary gland. The very latest anti-aging neuroendocrine research reveals that hormone production is integral in maintaining optimal health. M.A. is leading the anti-aging fight by developing a system of advanced nutraceuticals with scientifically based formulations.*  HGH, or human growth hormone, is the master hormone that drives the growth and development of the body. It causes the liver to produce powerful insulin-like growth factors (IGF), which contribute to the maintenance of lean body mass and the health of the body's vital organs. Research has proven that HGH-secreting cells of the pituitary gland do not die; they maintain their ability to make significant amounts of natural growth hormone. As part of the aging process, less HGH circulates through the body, because the pituitary gland is not stimulating its production. A secretagogue enhancer stimulates the pituitary to naturally produce and secrete HGH, raising the level of this valuable hormone within the body. Ultra Prime serves as a trigger to safely and naturally stimulate the pituitary gland.* The scientifically based formulation in Ultra Prime Secretagogue HGH Enhancer features potent amino acids and nutrients that are combined in a precise peptide formulation with other biologically active nutrients. When taken as directed, these ingredients work synergistically as a powerful secretagogue to effectively raise HGH levels. Powerful amino acids such as L-Glutamine, L-Arginine, L-Lysine, Glycine and Colosotrum, which have been shown to increase HGH levels, and nutrients from Prime Factor, are combined in a precise peptide formulation with other biologically active proteins to effectively raise HGH levels.* Ultra Prime Secretagogue HGH Enhancer is a natural secretagogue that works as an HGH releaser, raising HGH levels in an entirely physiological manner. It gently stimulates the endocrine system to produce and release its own HGH naturally. It works with the body and not against it. The ingredients work synergistically to maximize the effectiveness of the potent amino acids and active nutrients. You can now give your body a firm push in the right direction so it can help itself.* Ultra Prime Secretagogue HGH Enhancer is not only superior to similar products in the marketplace; it is in a class by itself. The specific amino acids and other natural ingredients are the result of years of study and research. The ingredients in Ultra Prime Secretagogue HGH Enhancer have been scientifically proven to raise HGH levels in the body. The amounts of these ingredients have been carefully selected to provide you with the most powerful and natural HGH Secretagogue formulation on the market today.*
