Obama fast tracking the nanny state
Townhall.com ^ | June 15, 2009 | Star Parker

President Obama wants health care reform this year.

He said at a town hall meeting the other day that he won't tolerate "endless delay" and that we probably won't reform health care if we don't do it this year.

Now why is that Mr. President? Will Congress be on vacation for the remaining three years of your term?

Consider that it's not unusual to take a full session of congress -- two years -- to pass legislation a fraction of the size and consequence of health care reform. Yet our president is demanding that a bill to overhaul a $2.5 trillion sector of our economy -- one sixth of it -- be considered and passed in a few short weeks.

It ought to be clear that this is not about taking an honest and sincere look at how to make this a better country and how to do a better job at delivering health care to Americans. It's impossible to look at something this massive and deal with it in such a short time frame.

This is about raw politics. When Mr. Obama says that if we don't get "it" done this year we probably won't get "it" done, he doesn't mean reforming health care. He means reforming it the way he and Ted Kennedy want to do it. Government run, nanny state health care.

To pull it off, they have to move fast.

First, the White House knows that Mr. Obama's honeymoon won't last forever. While his personal approval ratings remain high at 60 percent, his disapproval rating now at 33% is almost twice where is stood last February. And, in latest Gallup polling, the majority now disapprove of how Obama is handling government spending. So the White House wants action now on health care while their man is still popular.

Second, the White House knows that next year is an election year. It will be far more difficult to get Senators and Congressmen to play ball.

Third, they know that the big reason that Hillary Care failed in 1993 was that the American people were given an opportunity to look at it and consider it. They don't want to make the same mistake of giving voters a chance to actually understand what is about to happen to them. They know that the more Americans have an opportunity to take a look at the bureaucrat run, nanny state health care freight train, the more likely they will jump of the track.

Breathlessness is a great political technique. Telling voters that the world will end if we don't get X passed now.

This is how the $800 billion dollar "stimulus" bill got passed earlier this year. We were flashed images of the Great Depression of the 1930's and told our only hope is the stimulus bill.

Now, three months later, it's clear that our current economy bears no resemblance to the 1930's, that signs of recovery are emerging, and thus far only 6 percent of the $800 billion "stimulus" pot of political lard has been spent.

The trillions in new debt have been piled up at such a dizzying pace in the last few months Americans are numb. The federal government take from our economy has jumped from one fifth of it to one fourth.

Now, Mr. Obama and his Democrat colleagues want to layer on a new government health care plan to "compete" with private plans. "Compete" means raising taxes a few trillion dollars to provide subsidized insurance, and in some cases, free insurance, through a government plan in which all Americans will eventually wind up. And putting federal bureaucrats in charge of approving what health care procedures we are permitted.

The health care nanny state freight train is moving. Will we wake up before it's too late?

I may be dreaming given the lack of 24/7 news back then but weren’t there days in years past when a president wasn’t heard or seen?

How cynical does the WH have to be to trot BHO out every single bloomin’ day for inspirational thought in the form of fearmongering?

The whole socialist scheme depends on surprise. Next year, too many Americans will know too much. Even ACORN’s power will be cast into doubt.

Looking at our nanny state justice system and government, they all might as well drop their robes and suits and walk in with condoms on their heads and the pill as eye lids.

The O in Obama is a socialist condom ring: out with business, in with the gaming jokers who want taxes for their degenerate corrupt lives.

These hypocrite mentaly ill people in desguise never dared walking with a ridiculous condom as a graduation hat, but it would have been more fitting as a summary joke of their health “care” agenda.

I think the liberals don’t deserve the Tparties as back then the aristocracy had some class at least, maybe a Boston condom party as T bags would be more to their juvenile jerk “gaming” levels.

I think he wants it done this year because he knows what he's doing is so radical that America will eventually wake up, and it could be as early as 2010.

I pray to God we'll get rid of this one-party rule to stop this runaway train. If we get rid of the Dem majority in at least one of the houses of Congress, we stand a chance to slow it down, assuming some pubbies with backbone suddenly appear on the scene. (not too likely...)

First, the stimulus. Then, the financial bailouts. Then, the auto industry takeover. And, now, we have government run health care. How long will it take for the American people to wake up and smell the coffee?
The 0bamunists are destroying the US and trampling the Constitution on their march to marxism.

It’s time to take back the country.

This column reminds me of something my fiance said to me many years ago. We met in September, he proposed in October and wanted to marry in January! I thought July made more sense. I ended up giving in and going along with a mid-February wedding. Nothing like getting married in the middle of an Ohio winter. ugh

Finally, months later, I asked him “Why the rush? Why couldn’t I have the summer wedding I wanted?” Here is his word for word (honest to God) verbatim answer:

“I wanted us to get married before you didn’t like me anymore.”

Let that one sink in for a minute, folks!

(and yes, I divorced him) pfft

IMHO, the reason for the fastracking of this cr@p is that when a conservative finally gets elected, it will be harder to get rid of these policies & laws! Our elected “leaders” do listen to us, and run rampant over what we believe in and what the law is! It may take another UN-civil war to correct this.

The delays are equivalent to a "stay of execution" for the greatest health care system in the world. Unfortunately Obama wants to ration health care, thus destroying the current system. I am not sure that we want health care modeled after Cuba, and other failed socialistic systems (Canada, Great Britain, etc.).

IMO the real answer is free enterprise and personal responsibility. I do not like the idea of my health care premiums being increased to pay for AIDS, mental health, abortions and other behavioral or other fringe benefits. We were way better off in the 1950s.

He also wants it all done this year so that when the economy tanks completely — because of these policies — he can still blame Bush and the free-market system and use that for justification for even greater Statist control.

He is probably rushing to get health care done before Kennedy kicks the bucket.Or,look for a ‘let’s do it for the gipper’ approach if Kennedy dies in the process of putting a bill together.”Ted would have wanted this...etc.”

The Republicans have been weak so far but I truly believe if they stand together against this issue and are able to frame the argument the right way, it will be a blowout for them in 2010.

Next year is a congressional election year. His hold on the House of Representatives will be shaken in November but those dems in border-line districts will have to be aware early in the year of the impact to their careers if they blindly follow his lead. A vote this year can be forgotten by next November. A vote in May of 2010 will not.

That's why it's now or never for him.

Unfortunately Obama wants to ration health care, thus destroying the current system.

Worse than that, the Feds will add on layers of requirements the way most states do now. So no matter what freaky crap someone wants, as long it falls under "health care" it must be covered. Obviously any procedure that might have the slightest question of ethics or morality will have mandatory coverage.

BHO believes in the Nanny State because his own mother did such a piss poor job raising him leaving it to his commie grandparents. He would have been much better off being raised by the gal on Nanny 911 - she would have knocked that narcissism out of him.

Yes, it’s out of control. What are we going to do about it??????????????

Two reasons for Obama’s breakneck speed:

- Eliminates time for opposition to coalesce.

- Gets changes in place quickly in case his real birth certificate somehow becomes public.

One thing zero knows is that when he puts pressure on Congress to do something he wants, they will try everything possible to comply, then figure out what kind of mess they made later on. We have seen this pattern repeated several times since 1/20/09 and he is doing it again.
