Obama's AF One flight to Chicago & back today to cost $236,000 (NOT incl. protection, etc)
Chicago Tribune ^ | June 15, 2009 | John McCormick

Posted on 06/15/2009 8:44:03 AM PDT by BP2

As President Barack Obama flies Monday to Chicago for a midday speech on health-care reform, the round trip on Air Force One will run about $236,000, according to government estimates of the operating costs for one of the top symbols, and perks, of the presidency.

But that does not include such expenses as Secret Service protection, motorcades and helicopter transports.

After landing at O'Hare International Airport, Obama is scheduled to spend about 2 1/2 hours here. To avoid snarling traffic on the Kennedy Expressway, he likely will be taken from the airport by helicopter to a location near the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

A Government Accounting Office report in 2000 showed Air Force One cost $54,100 to operate each flight hour, or almost $67,000 in today's dollars. It is a tough number to estimate, however, because of so many variables and fixed costs that could be included in or excluded from the calculation.

The LEAST of our worries is his travel trips.

The President is president of the entire country, and for my money they SHOULD spend a hell of a lot more time seeing the whole country, talking to real people about what a pain in the ass the federal government is with all its tentacles in every orifice the public body.

Mr. Clinton used to take AF1 to a speech, perhaps at some high school, middle school, or Federal office. Then, since he was there anyway, he’d stop in at a few dem fundraisers that happened to be amenable to his schedule. Then he’d fly home. Since he made a speech at a public facility, it’s not as though he took AF1 to the dem fundraiser, not at all no way.

Look for other stops for Obama. Where does he go before or after the speech?

If my company cell phone leash is a “perk” that needs to be taxed, the use of AF1 definitely qualifies.

ObaMugabe loves Air Force One.

He’s running up a huge travel bill.

His extravagance is a good issue for us.

“...talking to real people...”

Thing is, “the real people” aren’t allowed within a parsec of The 0ne. The “real people” are to be shunned at every oppurtunity. The “real people” are to forgotten, except at election time. The “real people” are to relegated to the dustbin of history. At leat in the eyes of The 0ne.

Maybe he can move some of that money into Columbus, Ohio so that the police recruits he ‘saved’ with stimulus money won’t get laid off after all.

Oh, wait - there’s a tax increase on the ballot in August to solve that problem. Never mind!

Instead he spends money and resources like a drunken sailor, talks to those who do not work ( mid day?)........he is a blight and a son of a bitch, that cares nothing about us.

While I would tend not to pay to much attention to these jaunts, I thought I would compare akaObama to President Reagan (via the Diaries). The comparison cannot be exact as President Reagan was shot on March 30 in his first year and had no choice but to stay in or near DC for some time after that. But until that day, a quick scan of the Diaries shows one day at Camp David on Feb 15, a four day visit to Canada March 10-13, and then a weekend stop in NYC on March 14-15 on the way back to DC. That's all I saw.

Yes, but O keeps talking about efficiency & cost-savings & stuff like that. (Yea, I know...another one of his little jokes.) They could have easily done this electronically - broadcast his speech from the White House at the conference. Shouldn’t he walk his talk? And shouldn’t we remind him?
