NAULTY: John Dean invitation a bad move [Nixon Derangement Syndrome alert]
The Washington Times ^ | June 15, 2009 | Susan Naulty

Posted on 06/15/2009 2:40:52 PM PDT by Fiji Hill

Officials at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, Calif., have invited John Dean to speak there on the 37th anniversary of the Watergate break-in, slapping the faces not only of those sympathetic to the former president but, more important, history itself.

Most of the volunteer docents who work at the Nixon Library are dismayed at the decision to invite Dean. The Nixon library seems to have been drifting leftward since it became a National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) facility in 2007. The private Nixon Foundation, which had previously run the library appears to have gotten the short end of a Faustian bargain after it turned the library over NARA in order to get Nixon’s presidential papers, which by law remain government property.

By the way, Susan Naulty is a professional archivist who came to the Nixon Library from the famous Huntington Library in Pasadena, Calif. She did a masterful job in organizing Nixon's vast collection of records. For years her 1966 Plymouth was a familiar sight in the Nixon Library's parking lot.

Dean’s presentation will be at 7:30 PM on June 17 and is free, if any Freepers want to attend. On Friday, Marty Anderson, author of the new book Reagan’s Secret War, will be speaking at 2:30 PM. I can’t make the Dean appearance, since I have to work that evening, but I’ll be at Anderson’s presentation.

John Dean was the person behind the Watergate break in and it wasn't even for purely political reasons. Many in the media know this, but it doesn't serve the proper template to report it. It's disgusting that Dean became a media darling-- but not surprising.

If you want to know the truth about Watergate, read Silent Coup, St Martin's Press, 1992.

I read the news story and I read your post, and I still don’t know the name of the person or the committee that made the decision to invite John Dean. What was their reasoning? Who runs NARA?

LOL! You scooped me! I was about to post: In all fairness, I think the library should allow G. Gordon to mop...oops...I mean share the stage with Dean.

In his book The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President: Inside the Real Watergate Conspiracy (Sentinel, 2008), Geoff Shepard makes a convincing case that Dean perpetrated the Watergate operation--and then when the operation went awry, he switched sides and worked with Nixon's enemies in order to save his skin.

The original display didn’t whitewash Watergate. In fact, the so-called “smoking gun” tape that forced Nixon’s resignation from the presidency was available for visitors to listen to.

All the other presidential libraries that I have visited stress the positive aspects of their subjects. For example, I didn’t see any reference to Bobby Baker when I visited the Kennedy library.

Well, they need to have something there on that treasonous SOB, including the fact that he's signed-on to the Revolutionary Communist Party's World Can't Wait movement. The RCP calls for the violent overthrow of the U.S. government.

Wow, that’s not right:

Liddy Wins, John Dean Loses
June 29, 2000

G. Gordon Liddy said that White House Counsel John Dean had ordered an earlier break-in to plant a bug on a phone that was used to arrange dates with call girls for visiting Democratic dignitaries.

Judge Emmit Sullivan, a federal judge in Washington, has added an important chapter to the saga of Watergate, the scandal that toppled Richard Nixon, but the media have not reported it. Nine years ago, Silent Coup, a best-selling book by Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin, challenged the accepted version of the Watergate story.

They claimed they had found the answer to a question that puzzled a lot of people: Why did the Nixon reelection campaign send a burglary team into the offices of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in June 1972?

G. Gordon Liddy, who served four years in prison for his role in the operation, has said it was not until he read Silent Coup that he finally learned the real reason for the caper. He said that White House Counsel John Dean had ordered an earlier break-in to plant a bug on a phone that was used to arrange dates with call girls for visiting Democratic dignitaries, and that the second break-in was ordered after address books giving the names of the girls being called fell into the hands of the police. Silent Coup claimed that this was of great concern to Dean because his lover’s name was listed under the code name “Clout,” a reference to her connection with Dean.

...Nevertheless, the media have treated Dean as a respected figure and something of a hero. He was in prison only four months, compared to over four years for Gordon Liddy, who accused Dean of perjury and virtually dared him to sue. In 1992, Dean sued Colodny, Gettlin, their publisher and Liddy. Gettlin and the publisher settled two or three years ago. Colodny and Liddy did not.

...On June 2, Dean withdrew most of his charges against Liddy and the judge dismissed the rest. Liddy declared total victory and repeated his charge that Dean is a liar.

“people around here don’t want to believe that Nixon did anything wrong”

Harboring a leftist idea for one second in one’s secret heart of hearts is a worse crime against humanity than anything Nixon did.

Wow. Who's the genius who thought this was a good idea? Dean is the scumbag who orchestrated the Watergate break-in because his wife "Mo" was a prostitute who was on call for Democrat operatives. Read all about it in Len Colodny's book, Silent Coup, one of the most amazing can't-put-it-down books I ever read.
