NAULTY: John Dean invitation a bad move [Nixon Derangement Syndrome alert]
The Washington Times ^ | June 15, 2009 | Susan Naulty

Posted on 06/15/2009 2:40:52 PM PDT by Fiji Hill

Officials at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, Calif., have invited John Dean to speak there on the 37th anniversary of the Watergate break-in, slapping the faces not only of those sympathetic to the former president but, more important, history itself.

Most of the volunteer docents who work at the Nixon Library are dismayed at the decision to invite Dean. The Nixon library seems to have been drifting leftward since it became a National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) facility in 2007. The private Nixon Foundation, which had previously run the library appears to have gotten the short end of a Faustian bargain after it turned the library over NARA in order to get Nixon’s presidential papers, which by law remain government property.

By the way, Susan Naulty is a professional archivist who came to the Nixon Library from the famous Huntington Library in Pasadena, Calif. She did a masterful job in organizing Nixon's vast collection of records. For years her 1966 Plymouth was a familiar sight in the Nixon Library's parking lot.

Dean’s presentation will be at 7:30 PM on June 17 and is free, if any Freepers want to attend. On Friday, Marty Anderson, author of the new book Reagan’s Secret War, will be speaking at 2:30 PM. I can’t make the Dean appearance, since I have to work that evening, but I’ll be at Anderson’s presentation.

John Dean was the person behind the Watergate break in and it wasn't even for purely political reasons. Many in the media know this, but it doesn't serve the proper template to report it. It's disgusting that Dean became a media darling-- but not surprising.

If you want to know the truth about Watergate, read Silent Coup, St Martin's Press, 1992.

I read the news story and I read your post, and I still don’t know the name of the person or the committee that made the decision to invite John Dean. What was their reasoning? Who runs NARA?

LOL! You scooped me! I was about to post: In all fairness, I think the library should allow G. Gordon to mop...oops...I mean share the stage with Dean.

"Daniel Ellsberg (born April 7, 1931) is a former American military analyst employed by the RAND Corporation who precipitated a national political controversy in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret Pentagon study of government decision-making about the Vietnam War, to The New York Times and other newspapers."

The RCP calls for the armed overthrow of the U.S. government...

From the website of the Revolutionary Communist Party (revcom.us or rwor.org) :

"Create Public Opinion, Seize Power: We are preparing minds and organizing forces for the time when there is a major crack in the system, whenever it comes and wherever it comes from: an opening that makes it possible to bring the future Revolutionary Army of the Proletariat (R.A.P.) into the field and wage a revolutionary armed struggle that actually has a chance of winning.

And we have said that building our party itself is the most important part of organizing forces for revolution. This is true now, and it is true looking forward to the creation of that future R.A.P. and the waging of that armed struggle.":

In his book The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President: Inside the Real Watergate Conspiracy (Sentinel, 2008), Geoff Shepard makes a convincing case that Dean perpetrated the Watergate operation--and then when the operation went awry, he switched sides and worked with Nixon's enemies in order to save his skin.

Does the museum have anything on traitor/communist Daniel Ellsberg?

The original display didn’t whitewash Watergate. In fact, the so-called “smoking gun” tape that forced Nixon’s resignation from the presidency was available for visitors to listen to.

All the other presidential libraries that I have visited stress the positive aspects of their subjects. For example, I didn’t see any reference to Bobby Baker when I visited the Kennedy library.

Egad. Poster boy for liberal left-wing academia. No wonder. Probably think’s he’s HS, too. The Nixon family must be having some bitter moments about their decision.
