It's not clear if tomorrow's rally will be considered a stupid human trick, but those interested in seeing late-night TV legend David Letterman get fired are urged to show up at the Ed Sullivan Theater for Tuesday's taping.
Letterman is in hot water after last week's exchange with former VP candidate Sarah Palin. Letterman made cracks about the Alaska governor's daughter, prompting an argument over the airwaves that lasted several days.
David Letterman directly apologized to Palin and her daughters again on his program Monday night, saying he took responsibility for a joke that had offended Palin, her family, and her supporters.
Letterman was riffing on Palin's recent visit to New York when he said, "One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."
Making jokes about unplanned pregnancies isn't the worst thing a talk-show host could do, especially since Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol did indeed have a baby out of wedlock. But it was actually Palin's 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who accompanied her on last week's trip.
On Monday night, Letterman insisted he was confused about the daughters. “I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Guiliani,” he said. “I should have made the joke about Rudy.”

NBC has cleaned up the headline on the web pages to “Letterman Apologizes Again For Palin Joke” but the URL remains the Haters-Launch......original title. The original title went out to a bunch of NBC stations’ webpages and MSNBC.

Actually I would suspect the title was changed at NBC. The name in the link still matches the title posted.
PC infects us all. Glom onto a major faux paux and put it under a magnifying glass and burn yourself up with the heat. And if you happen to be the offender always say you’re sorry. Always, and never stop. And then apologize for not saying your sorry in the best way possible. Pay with your career. “PC means always having to say you’re sorry.”
Thank God for forgiveness, though it ain’t cheap.
I’m no big fan of David Letterman, but let it go, folks. Bigger fish to fry and better steaks to grill.

The only haters we see here are the extreme left echo chamber and their controllers who have been pursuing the vilest attacks to destroy the Palin family because they don’t like the values and beliefs of the Palins.
Either all politicians children are off limits or they are not. That there is a double standard needs to be pointed out and stopped.

That was most certainly the original headline, all right. It does give you an idea where the headline writer stands on the issue, doesn’t it?
What normal man, no matter how old, speaks without offense? What is more perverse: digging the offense up, rooting around in it like a pig, pulling the snout out of the muck in self-righteousness, and demanding forever after an apology that cannot possibly meet with satisfaction.

The fact of going “off limits” is a given in this case. It is unseemly and improper to make anyones family, no matter what their age, the subject of sexually related jokes on broadcast television.
I am addressing how to deal with the matter afterward. Had you or anyone else made the same error, I would be inclined to put a better construction on things rather than get myself and others into a self-righteous tizzy over it. Sometimes it is better to take the gracious way out.

Having thick skin has nothing to do with it. Things like this should never be said. 20 years ago, they wouldn't. But people like you thought mercy more important than morality, ethics and manners. We have a society that is coarsening because no one wants to be seen as being "Offended". It is alright to be offended about important things and protect children from being smeared for political gain.

You're being a little too self-consciously sensitive, there, Kristinn. I didn't "run down FR" with my post. I was merely being a little sardonic while pointing out the obvious.
As for NBC switching headlines, I have two comments. First, mine was the 8th post on this thread. No one -- not the original poster, nor any of the other people who commented ahead of me -- mentioned the change in headlines. There was zero indication of a change. I clicked the link to the original because most initial posts that kick off FR threads are excerpts, whether or not they are so marked. In doing so, I saw the difference in headline and called Sub-Driver's and the Admin Mod's attention to it.
Second, it's hardly uncommon here for initial posters who start a thread to change a headline, something that's long been frowned upon here. Do you seriously expect the average poster who comes upon such an instance to immediately assume there's been a change, and go chasing around the web looking for alternative headlines to a story? Seems to me, responsibility for correct headlines is up to the initial poster and Admin to handle. There was a time here when pointing out such differences was appreciated and FReepers tended to help protect the integrity of the site.
