Bruning: GM circumventing state laws
LINCOLN (AP) Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning is accusing General Motors of trying to circumvent state consumer protection laws.
In a letter Monday to other states' attorneys generals, Bruning says GM is claiming states' laws protecting consumers and dealerships can be ignored.
Bruning's letter comes as GM plans to close some 1,300 dealerships nationwide as part of it's plan to emerge from bankruptcy as a new company.
Bruning says GM is insisting current dealers sign new dealership agreements in order to be part of the new operation. Bruning says those agreements force current dealers to waive state protection laws. Advertising
Bruning says the move deprives or defers warranty service for consumers and violates lemon laws. He says it may also violate antitrust laws.

GM plans to close some 1,300 dealerships nationwide as part of it's plan to... Sad that such an obvious grammatical mistake was overlooked - the AP used to have standards, at least when it came to that sort of thing.

News standards in general are through the floor. I can be more accurate with spell checker embedded in Firefox than these dimwits are in a professional (...) newsroom.

The federal gubmint is bigger than any one state government. I think we are soon to see if it is bigger than 30 or 35 of them combined. I doubt all 50 will stand against it.

We already have a pair, Carl Levin, and Debbie Stabinow.
You can also throw in Granholm for a Trifecta.

"Bottom Line...Boycott GM and Chrysler. Ill never buy another." I already have. I purchased a new double cab TUNDRA last June, bought a used Honda CRV for my son today, and currently have 2 GM Vans of which were purchased better than 2 years ago.
I would like to buy American, but of late my heart wasn't into it. And now with the Government and UAW take over; the future of my purchasing domestic is now over! And no, I'll not consider Ford, unless they dump their UAW ties.
Only then will they be clean.

This is because of GM's new ties with the UAW. They got your father's name from UAW's current voting rolls.

GM still thinks I own a lease that I turned in a few months ago.
A form letter I got from them the other day urged me to buy another car. One reason was the warranty - “backed by the US Government”.
