TOLEDO, Ohio Residents of Toledo, Ohio, are complaining that they received $25 tickets for parking their vehicles in their own driveways.
Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-ner) says he stands by the citations handed out last week by the Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor. He says the tickets were issued under a city law against parking on unpaved surfaces, including gravel driveways.

Not surprising considering the fact that The City had layoff their police force. Just a way to obtain more money.

I don’t like the whole parking a bunch of cars on the grass of the front lawn, or having a slew of derelict junkers out back, but on a gravel driveway? What’s wrong with a gravel driveway?

The mayor is a jackass. I hope he gets successfully recalled and then tried for abuse of power and gets sent to jail.

This man is evil. He has found a way of interpreting the law that allows him to “legally” take money from his people, so he’s doing that. Disgusting!

Yet people in this country, and on this hallowed forum insist that the government should ensure there safety, by force if necessary and in every conceivable way and in every conceivable place. Shame on us for being a lazy, self indulgent, selfish bunch of dolts.

Oh, I understand, but I soooo disagree, revenge, my son, keeps “officials” in their place, some communities don't have problems like this, because “discipline" is in place and the "fear level" i.e. respect for one another is in place.

You can make a decent argument that gravel is a type of paving anyway. It is designed to serve the same purpose as asphalt: make the surface suitable for automobiles.

I have a 2-car-wide gravel driveway.
My landlord put in it so we could park off the street after the CD player got stolen out of the truck we used to have.
If someone ticketed me for parking there, they would end up with some serious regrets.

Whats wrong with a gravel driveway? The rocks have a way of getting in the yard, I'm sure my grand children contribute to that too. Mine's double wide, I've thought about paving it but it costs a fortune, so gravel it stays.

This is just par for the course for Carty the Marxist Finkbeiner. Like all good little Socialists everywhere, Carty has ridden the city of Toledo into the financial ground. I'm just surprised it took him so long.

Just another way liberals have found to destroy the notion of private property. When they control all uses of private property and tax it to hell, there will be no more private property.
Then, the marxists will be happy.

Mayor Finkbeiner is in his 3rd (interrupted) term as mayor of Toledo. Previous fame came from
ordering company of USMC Reservists to abandon an urban training session because he hadn't been personally informed (Police knew and approved at least 3 days earlier). As others have said, he is facing a recall confirmation in November unless he can invalidate enough signatures of a 20k petition. Needless to say he is holding on to office like a rabid d**.

I guess hundreds of the folks that got these tickets should ask for a jury trial. I’d bet most juries would let them walk, and it would cost the city a fortune to try them all in court.

The bigger question which people should be asking is this: Who passed such a draconian law, and why didn't the citizens protest it before now?
I can't believe that NOBODY thought of problems with a law against parking on an unpaved suface. That just SCREAMS "likely to be abused" to me.

So the Mayor, Carty Finkbeiner thinks that the wild interpretation of the law is cool?
I see an abbreviated tenure for Finkmeister, and a law introduced in the state legislature to clarify the matter. I guarantee that the initial law was not intended to apply to unpaved driveways or areas on private property.
