BARNWELL, S.C. -- South Carolina's jobless rate has been among the nation's highest, but one of the state's largest employers is looking to fill thousands of new jobs.
The Department of Energy is holding the first of two town hall meetings and job fairs Wednesday in Barnwell. A second is planned for June 24 in Allendale.
Employment agencies are seeking to fill an estimated 3,000 jobs at the former nuclear weapons complex along the South Carolina-Georgia border that will be funded by $1.6 billion in stimulus money.

And so the "Government as Saviour" meme begins.
If there hadn't been so much onerous taxation and regulation, the rush to move all the jobs offshore wouldn't have been as fast.
Although such is still necessary in the minds of executives, to create new (young) middle classes in the Third World, in order to have new markets to sell to, as the population of the US and Europe ages.
Cheers!

I have participated in job fairs and I have yet to see anything good come from them.

I wonder if these people know these jobs entail waste (nuclear and other) cleanup and they'll probably be unemployed again in a couple of years?
* South Carolina (Total funding $1.615 billion)
Savannah River Site ($1.615 billion) - Accelerate decommissioning of nuclear facilities and contaminated areas throughout the Site, including in-place decommissioning of two nuclear materials production reactors. Recovery Act work includes shipping more than 4,500 cubic meters of waste out of South Carolina and will reduce the sites industrial area by 40 percent, or 79,000 acres, by September 2011.

For someone looking for work, a job, even if it lasts only two years, is better than no job.

Yes no disagreement there. But, the tendency is to report these jobs as if they are permanent.
