Who was the General she disrespected by not addressing him with his title and by speaking in that tone of voice without so much as the common courtesy of calling him sir?

I’d like to put his record of earning his title up against how “hard she worked” for her title.

What a clueless, self-centered, example of emptiness we have sitting in positions of power in our country, when a nothing twit like Barbara Boxer can address an officer in our military in that tone.

Even though it was once appropriate, but now makes me a bit uncomfortabl, I'd much rather be called "Sir" than "Senator". The first, like "Ma'am", is a term of respect, especially when spoken by a member of the military. The later is a term of contempt and revulsion.

So General, go ahead and call her "Senator".

Man, how petty and and pathetic does she look next to that General Class Officer. She’s whining about being called ma’am and she doesn’t have the decency to address him as sir or general.

Her little fit is insight into the fevered thinking that passes as liberalism. She views herself as the intelligentsia sitting at the top of the food chain and the general is despised while the rest of us are simply tolerated.

In a way, Boxer is right. Why should he call her ma’am? Doesn’t look like one to me.

Saying something like that to a General? She worked so hard???

That’s a stupid statement. The General was not elected... he worked for his “title”. She campaigned, ate lunches, went to meetings and kissed some constituent fannies. Maybe she would have felt more respected if he had called her sir.

She’s a poser. (insert the letter “L” where appropriate)

This is what you would expect from the most stupid human being to ever walk into the Capitol Building. It is a basic part of military culture to say “sir” and “ma’am”. No way would anybody as stupid as a rock (no insult to rocks intended) ever understand this. Boxer is a freaking idiot. End of story.

I always thank Barbara Boxer for making me a conservative.

I went (really just stopped for a few minutes on my way home from work) to a outdoor Dukakis rally in the late 80’s in San Francisco.
Boxer was there speaking, and I was amazed at her hatred and vitriol.

Most of these losers don't have manners. I thought the General was appropriate in addressing her in a respectful manner.

Hey Barbara, you just lost the respect of most people who were watching. It is never a good thing, hon, for you to be snarky when a person is treating you with the utmost respect.

LOSER Mam/Senator

The general also said “sir” to every male senator he addressed. I’m sure it was a mix, but I’m guessing it was in response to questions. “Do you like Washington, DC?” Answer: “No, Ma’am.”

Not only is it more conversational, whereas “senator” gets overly repetitious, it is also what our military are trained in. Yes sir and No Sir. Yes Ma’am and No Ma’am.

"Do me a favor," she said. "Could say senator instead of Ma'am It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, thank you."

Yes ma'am

Use zipcode 94203 if you call her.

Find a Local Office

You can write to Senator Boxer at any of the addresses listed below. However, please note that mail sent to Congressional offices in Washington, DC must go through a very lengthy screening process. Letters are not only irradiated but are also vacuumed for possible contaminated substances. Because this process often delays letters for weeks, you may prefer to write to one of our California offices to ensure that your letter is delivered in a timely fashion.
