United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced today that Adam Stewart Young, age 34, of Raven, Virginia, appeared in court last week after being indicted by a federal Grand Jury sitting in Abingdon, Virginia on May 20, 2009.
Young was charged in a one-count indictment with enticing and coercing a minor to engage in a sexually explicit act for the purpose of producing child pornography. These charges arose out of an investigation begun in May 2008.
A jury trial has scheduled for July 20, 2009 in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon. If convicted, the defendant faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years.
The maximum penalty faced by the defendant is 30 years imprisonment and/or a fine of $250,000.
The investigation of the case was conducted by the Tazewell County Sheriffs Office, the Buchanan County Sheriffs Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Bristol Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer R. Bockhorst will prosecute the case. For further information, please contact Brian McGinn at (540) 857-2974.
A Grand Jury indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
