Fifty years ago do you think anyone anywhere would have thought of dressing up like a penis for his graduation? But that’s your “standard” against which you then evaluate kiss-blowing.
It’s people like you who enable the penis-costumers because you have no principle to operate from, just “well, it could be worse,” and “well, it’s not as bad as X.”
So my kid steals a CD and I tell the store security guard, look, that other guy in last night’s newspaper stole a motorcycle from the Harley store. My kid did nothing wrong because someone else did something worse.
Or your wife commits adultery and tells you, well, just be glad I didn’t do it with your brother. Leave me alone you stuffed shirt?
All of his "behaviors" were because he had just had his integrity publically raped in the name of good behavior. The entire incident was an atrocity, the school administrators in this country are tinpot gods who regularly violate student integrity at will. Calling in a cop was further insult, and he was right to throw off his cap and gown (like hell he threw it at the cop, they were looking for a reason to arrest him and that would have done it).
Blowing a kiss to your mom and taking a bow when you get your high school diploma is disturbing the ceremony? Get a life, and stuff your worship of petty rules where the sun don't shine. This was rank, obvious, insulting and highly disrupting tyranny by the administrator - period.
And your support of it is disgusting.
The jerk is a youngster and he blew a kiss. That doesn’t make him mentally ill with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or like Clinton or Obama.
I’m going to bow out of this, I don’t want to argue with you, but wish you would reconsider your rigid position on this. Some battles just aren’t worth the trouble. This is relatively harmless and we need to pick our battles.

There has to be some history here, if not with this student in particular, with graduation ceremonies at this high school.
I will have to stand with the superintendent on this one. Discipline and decorum at high schools have been pretty low at high schools for several decades. It is long past time that kids learn that childish behavior has its place and time. Graduation ceremonies are not the place or the time.

The kid will get his diploma eventually, I’m sure. A little tough love by delaying it to drive home the point is the best thing that could happen to him. Obviously his mother is a narcissist herself and she’s raised a jerk.

It sounds to me that this was a somewhat difficult situation for the administration and faculty concerning the behaviour of this group of rather immature students.
Given the present direction of government schools, I suspect that blowing a kiss to Mom is a tazing offense.
