"Do me a favor," she said, "could say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you."

All that was missing was for her to say, "Do you know who I am?". We don't have a class system in this country Boxer, so calling you Senator is not required. Titles have no place in American society as was originally envisioned.

Well, it's true that it is the Bob Mulholland style of California Democrat politics.

I remember how outraged Susan Estrich was during the 2003 recall election when the Los Angeles Times ran a story on what Estrich called "the Thursday before the Tuesday" about a 20-year-old groping allegation against Schwarzenegger that allegedly occured on a movie set.

I also remember how Bill Simon was running against Gray Davis in 2002. Davis' allies had trumped up an indictment against Bill Simon's company in August (two months before the election) alleging him of defrauding his partner in a pay telephone deal. The company was convicted (not Simon himself) and ordered to pay $78 million in damages. Simon, of course, lost the election. After the election, the conviction was overturned by the appeals court after it was discovered that the other party was a convicted drug trafficker.

This is just how Democrat politics works in California when you're a Republican. To see how Democrats are treated, just look at how Don Perata's investigation quietly went away.

I’ll never forget one pompous 1st Lt. in my outfit. I was a parts clerk at the time, or training to be one, and the guy I was replacing was telling me about the Lt. Oliver(the soldier)said , “ Old Gary P. doesn’t like it when you fill out the forms this way!”. Lt. Gary P. Graves was standing behind a locker and came storming out and chewed Oliver’s butt for about an hour for using his first name. After that I called him(the Lt.) Gary P. Whenever I got the chance!

I have worked in Medicine for the last 25 years, and I still refer to every single doctor as “Doctor (lastname)”.

I have many who say to me “Please refer to me as Carl” or whatever.

I won’t do it. It is not a sign of respect per se (although it often is) because there are some I detest, but I make it a point to be consistent and treat them all the same way.

I leave it up to them to wonder why I do it, because it clearly is food for thought for some of them. The pompous ones think it is out of respect for them. The ones I truly like know it is something else.

You have to watch out when eating or drinking and reading a thread on FR. One time I was browsing along minding my own business when someone posted a picture of a can of "goat smegma". I laughed for two days before it wore off, and I still don't know why. :)

You call the President ‘sir’. If it’s good enough for Potus, its good enough for old, wannabee sex kitten.

OK, from now on I will refer to Pelosi as Sir.

Sir Pelosi

The General was using what he understood to be the respectful and proper salutation. Boxer's response shows that she is ignorant of military protocol, egotistical, narcissistic, arrogant and graceless.

Agree completely. She should go back to Marin county and live her life of ease with hubby, leave the rest of us alone.

This is nothing more than a verbal power play by Senator Boxer in an attempt to assert herself. Sadly, she doesn’t recognize that in the military Ma’am is a term of respect reserved for use when addressing a superior who happens to be female.

It's a shame that all those years of *hard work*, her time on the Armed Services Committee in the House, she seems not to have learned the very BASICS of Military Protocol.

She also forgets that fact that respect is not an entitlement, it must be earned.

Agreed! I always called the President, Mr. President.
This gal is just a bit big for her britches. The General, I’m sure, was gritting his teeth but kept his composure while wanting to RHFGO. She really had no idea how much danger she was in. That was a fine display of gentlemanly conduct by the General.

WOW. She’s extremely crazy. Ma’am is a respectfull way to address a woman where I come from. And I believe the Brigadier General has EARNED the right not to be put down by some self-important Senator. I would have a very hard time Addressing Boxer or Pelosi as such..(Maybe thru clenched teeth)......Barney Frank on the other hand...I would gladly call Ma’am!! LOL

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) didn't like a Brigadier General calling her "ma'am" at an EPW hearing yesterday.

"Do me a favor," she said, "could say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you."

Dear Senator Boxer,

Do America a favor. Could you say 'I Resign'?

It's just a 'thing' which proves that whenever you speak you again confirm that you are the dumbest, most ignorant, and arrogant person to ever get that title of Senator.

We'd appreciate it, yes, thank you.

In 1996, I was stationed at Onizuka Air Station in Sunnyvale, which had just been selected by the BRAC for closure. Barbara Boxer was coming to the base with a news crew, so she could say how she was going to try to “save” the base—she didn’t.

My commanding officer said, “James, you’re interested in politics—do you want to be part of the delegation to show the Senator around?” I said, “Sir, she has spent her political career tearing down the military. The only time she acts like she supports us is when a base in California is about to close and civilians will lose jobs. You don’t want me anywhere near her because I might lose my bearing and tell her what I really feel.”

I didn’t join the delegation. Now that I’m a civilian, I can say what I want to her...and I wouldn’t be calling her Senator. I can think of a few more terms that are more appropriate.....

Yep. And by my math, she’s coming up for re-election in 2010.

Let’s roll, shall we?
