Posted on 06/19/2009 8:54:41 AM PDT by worst-case scenario
Doug Hampton, the supposed blackmailer of John Ensign, went to Megan Kelly of Fox News for help, the week before the story broke. "I love this country and considered it a great privilege to work in the US (sic) Senate. I am bringing this to you and Fox News to address this professionally and correctly. I could have sought the most liberal, Republican hating media to expose this story, but there are peoples lives at stake and justice is about proper process as well as outcome. Senator Ensign has no business serving in the US (sic) Senate anymore! I will send you and (sic) email as well as leave you and your staff messages in an attempt to meet you and your team as soon as possible. I live and work in Nevada but can be in New York within hours, I look forward to your help."

Hmmm... sounds to me he needs to have it out with his wife first before involving Fox. It takes two to tango, and it seems his wife was a willing participant.
“Senator Ensign has no business serving in the US (sic) Senate anymore”
Why, I’d guess over 90% of the existing senate has cheated on there wives.
Did you read that letter Hampton wrote? Sounds like the guy was at his wit’s end. He’d already had it out with his wife, and with Ensign as well, several times. Once he says he even had a fight with Ensign at a meeting Ensign was having with Tom Coburn and some staffers.
If (and that’s a BIG “if”) what this guy is saying is true, Ensign has some real problems with using his office improperly.
This guy needs a lesson in grammar.
This guy is crazy, if this report is true. And he put this in writing, and he worked on the Hill?
The guy’s nuts.
Never mind, a recent president cheated on his wife in the Oval Office, and stayed in office!
Just another American Made doormat, if you ask me.
Boy, is this guy a ‘fine whiner’ and he sounds like he has some serious, long standing emotional problems.
Time for him to get a job, salvage what he can of his marriage, get some help and move along.
All the adults in this soap opera are in a bad situation, of their OWN making. Take responsibility, act like adults and move on.
This is a 2 part issue. The guy’s wife was screwwing the Senator just as much as the Senator was screwwing her. Hthe husband needs to deal with that part privately.
The 2nd part is someone in a position of authority was screwwing a subordinate employee. They were not equals other that they both shared the morals of ally cats. This is an ugly issue. Wife screws boss, husband finds out, boss has both employees fired, but continues to screw employee for a few months longer?
Is Ensign blind? His wife is hot.
Guilty of poor judgement all the way around.
tarheel, guy’s wife screws the boss. How is it the fault of the husband? It sounds like he confronted Ensign with Sen Colburn to no avail? What more could he do? I would take it public too.
As my mon always used to say - If boys keep their pants up and girls their skirts down, these things won't happen.
Oh there’s no doubt some shady stuff happened. But this is more of a tabloid issue than anything else.
I agree with you. While I am somewhat sympathetic with this man, that sympathy is limited. Political work is by its very nature unstable. I can’t figure out why any couple who cares about the financial stability of their family would both work for the same political figure. Elections and events can cause immediate changes in employment. Did this man not know about the affair? If not, then he was probably the only one.
This letter sounds to me like it comes from an unstable person who bet and lost. I do understand his anger and he makes good points about the character of a man who is in a leadership position. But it also sounds like he’s trying to take everyone down; he includes Coburn too. This really does sound the beginning of blackmail to me.
Agreed. I also sense a lot of misplaced blame as well. If their relationship was troubled, and his wife ended up having an affair, then perhaps he should be asking what HE did wrong in the marriage. His wife should also be asking the same thing. I’m not saying Ensign is innocent, but this sounds more like a Danielle Steele novel than a political scandal.
