World 'watching Iran', Obama says
US President Barack Obama has warned Iran that "the world is watching", after its supreme leader criticised voters who protested over the election.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said opposition leaders would be blamed for further "bloodshed" if protests did not stop.
President Obama said that the way the authorities dealt with people who were "trying to be heard" would send a message to the international community.
More protests are due on Saturday as poll officials meet losing candidates.
The Guardian Council - Iran's main electoral authority - has invited Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohsen Rezai to discuss their objections to the poll.
President Obama, who has previously said he did not want to be seen to be meddling in Iran's affairs, told broadcaster CBS: "I'm very concerned based on some of the tenor and tone of the statements that have been made, that the government of Iran recognise that the world is watching.

Peer pressure, that’s how Zero recruited customers when he sold pot. Yeah, that’ll work on a sovereign nation.
The whole world now knows that Obama is a weasel wimp
That’s pretty cool!
As if we care what this ass, whose Justice Department releases election criminals, thinks about elections.
Oh, I get it. He's asking 0bama that question. As someone who knows.
Will Charlies Homeland Sure-cure-ity put those Iranian protesters on it’s list???
To hell with watching Iran..
The world SHOULD be watching Obama.
Typical Liberal...
Millions must die before we act that way no one can blame him for Meddling....
Cuckooo, cuckooo....
Very simple and very well done!
thank you!
Just a about a million fraudulent votes. In just a few key “swing states”
“Khamenei reacted strongly, saying Obama’s statements contradicted the president’s stated goal of opening dialogue with Iran and the conciliatory tone of other recent American messages.
“The U.S. president said ‘We were waiting for a day like this to see people on the street,’” Khamenei said. “They write to us and say they respect the Islamic Republic and then they make comments like this. ... Which one should we believe?”

At a May 29, 2009 meeting with Iranian academics, Ahmadinejad said: “The Americans keep sending us messages for negotiation. We are ready to (hold) talks and cooperate. Of course, we are ready to cooperate in global management, global disarmament, and resolving global problems under equal conditions I should say that Irans nuclear issue has been resolved and it is over.”

So let’s see...Obama sends note after note to Iran begging for a meeting. He tells them he “respects” the Islamic Republic. Obviously he is praising himself as not-Bush, the disrespecter of Iran.
But how do the Iranians read it? Isn’t respect for the “Islamic Republic” respect for their political system, wink wink?
Did the Iranians take this message as a hint Obama would not complain about the election results, giving them a free hand to cheat?
Face it, if he came out tough you guys would say he should have taken the opposite route. Don’t act like you care about the Iranians. A month ago you were willing to bomb these peaceful citizens back into the stone age. Next month I’m sure you guys will be back to, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran. Sociopaths are not happy unless people are suffering.
I’m proud and inspired by the Iranians. The world will not endorse bombing them, knowing that there are millions that would love peace and freedom. There are many there we can work with. Too bad Bush’s caricature of these lovely human beings has finally been broken. The world is watching.
Tomorrow’s events will probably bring bloodshed, so, get your political axe out. We know you’ll blame Obama for the deaths. Unfortunately your political attacks will eventually backfire. Keep up the phony outrage. We will have much material come election time.
Cowboy diplomacy does not work. In fact, many of you sound really tough on this site but I’m sure in real life you are a bunch of pussies. Acting tough and being tough are 2 different things. In my neighborhood the toughest guys were always quiet and reserved, so as to not show their hand. The biggest punks were always the loudest. So, keep yelling GOP, it says a lot.
When this economy bounces back, it will be the end of the GOP. It’s the reason you want PBO to fail. He will not, mark my words. See you in 2012, the pain will be great, for you guys.
Yes.
Did the Iranians take this message as a hint Obama would not complain about the election results, giving them a free hand to cheat?
Yes. They were going to anyway, but they also know they'll get no trouble from the O.
“Did the Iranians take this message as a hint Obama would not complain about the election results, giving them a free hand to cheat?”
Are you serious!!! OMG, you guys. You tried this same tactic during the elections. It didn’t work. Oh, I know but, but Acorn. 1st of all we have no credibility on elections. Liberals said Bush stole it in 2000 and you guys say PBO stole it in 2008. These protests aren’t about the elections anymore. It’s about freedom in general, so, stop with the vote crap. It’s irrelevant.
Make yourselves useful. The power of words matter. Tomorrow is a big day in Iran. The Supreme leader thinks he can put the genie back into the bottle; he can’t.
Send your message of support to the Iranians. It’s not much but words can give a person courage. Many might be living their lasts moments. Let them know the world is watching, if you truly care, of course.

Only a fool or a liar would ever suggest that Pres. Bush did that.
Hundreds of thousands of Iranians don't think it's irrelevant. They are out in the streets risking their lives and they are carrying green to signify their specific discontent with the elections.
I do not support the government of Iran. They can be bombed for all I care. I have never wanted peaceful citizens killed en masse, thats a leftist thing. I want their nuclear program wiped out because mad mullahs should not have nukes.
How is this inconsistant?
The ones who love peace and freedom will be dealt with by Ahmadinejad's shock troops. They are being dealt with now. Their courage in standing for freedom in the face of raw and deadly force amazes and humbles me.
Too bad Bushs caricature of these lovely human beings has finally been broken.
You don't pay much attention. Bush always sided with the ones "who love peace and freedom". You need to re-read his many messages on the subject, always encouraging them, always reminding them that God is the author of liberty. But he has worked through the EU in trying to tame the dictator. Not that it made any difference. All Bush did was let diplomacy have its way, negotiating through the EU and it has brought us to where we are.
IAEA? They've done their job, and it has been ineffectual as always.
Tomorrows events will probably bring bloodshed... We know youll blame Obama for the deaths.
No, we'll blame the killers who kill them. We'll blame Obama for undercutting Bush and then doing even less than he, and even less effectively. But no, the blame for the bloodshed will go where it belongs, the goons who shoot them down.
Just remember that these are the same goons who will be in control of the nukes when the day comes. And they don't care a fig what O thinks, unless he takes effective steps to make them care.
