The Senate Republican campaign operation is citing a Tuesday exchange between California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer and U.S. Army Gen. Michael Walsh in its latest fund-raising pitch to supporters.
During a hearing before the Environment and Public Works Committee, Walsh referred to Boxer as maam, a moniker the chairwoman did not appreciate.
Do me a favor, can you say senator instead of maam? Boxer said, interrupting the Army general. Its just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title, so Id appreciate it. Thank you.
Smith responded: Yes, senator.
In an email pitch to supporters, National Republican Senatorial Committee Executive Director Rob Jesmer uses the exchange to suggest the California Democrat is disrespectful of the U.S. military.
He deserves better from a United States Senator. Ironically, General Walsh is even from California - making him a constituent of Senator Boxers, Jesmer writes. Republican members of the Senate believe that our troops deserve the utmost respect from all Americans - especially civilian leadership. Send a message to Senator Boxer with us.
The NRSC is soliciting donations and asking supporters to sign a petition to tell Senator Boxer our troops deserve more respect.
A spokeswoman for Boxer did not immediately return a request for comment.
The exchange has sparked a flood of criticism on the right. California GOP Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, who is running for his partys nomination to challenge Boxer in 2010, said Boxer dressed down a general who was following protocol of referring to senators as sir, maam or senator.
So, General Walsh was simply following longstanding tradition, DeVore told UPI.

This case makes it mighty tempting to start giving to the GOP again.Boxer has got to be the most arrogant b**ch I’ve heard in quite a while.
Barbara “Bright as an Empty” BOXer, and proud of it!
These arrogant senators are worse than royalty. Boxer can do whatever she wants since she is basically guaranteed re-election.
The Airhead from California just demonstrated what an arrogant, self-absorbed, self-important nitwit she is. The General was using sir with the male senators and ma’am with the female, all proper and respectful.
Insisting that others conform to your narrow, self-interested concept of proper behavior is the height of arrogance and self-importance.
How many times have I’ve seen the word Mr Bush in the media used as opposed to President Bush
Wee dohn’ need yo steeeking protocols........
It be OBAMA time now!
“Mr. Bush” in the second reference is correct.
For Boxer, her title is really the only thing that matters. Not that she is supposed to be a servant and representative of the people. Only that she is in power. I am SENATOR, hear me roar, you little peons.
Thanks for posting her number. This woman is contemptable, and I’m glad she has shown her true colors.
This is an excellent time for the GOP to rally the base - but not with fund raising. I won’t contribute until I see where the money is going. IMO, it shouldn’t take extra cash for the Congress guys to stand up and do their job. If they do, I think the energy will come from the local levels.
I think I would have resigned my commission on the spot, and told Ms Boxer to GTH...
I saw her comment as total disdain for anyone or anything military. Libs do hate the ones who protect their sorry a@@es.
“Boxer can do whatever she wants since she is basically guaranteed re-election.”
We’re gonna see about that come 11/2010.
And then I'd have referred to her as the C word for the rest of the very-short interrogation.
I had the exact same thought. Specifically, I thought, “I will give ten dollars- just to encourage them in the right direction.”

For an “empowered woman” to put a military man in his place like that was designed to give feminazis an excuse to have a big party and pump their fists in the air.
Senator Boxer is not a real American. She does not respect our traditions and customs. Time to send her back where she came from.
The bizitch forgets she is nothing more than a public servant.
Let’s call Boxer Liz LMAO :)
As I stated the other day, the story as written wasn’t NEARLY as bad as the video of her saying this. She was SO CONDESCENDING to him.
Done. The mail box wasn’t full yet. I can’t describe the level of contempt I have for this woman, so it was hard to be nice.
Be polite but please do call her ma’am.
“”and that Boxer called Walsh yesterday and the two expressed their respect for each other.””
I’d like to know what was said in that exchange. It had to be very difficult for the General to even reply that day with “Yes, Senator.” I don’t trust anyone who covers their mouth or their face the way Boxer did when she spoke to the General. CA can’t do any better? Let’s hope she’s looking for a different job in the next election. She’s annoyed the voters of CA and around the nation for TOO many years.
Considering they're both titles of respect, you're worthy of neither, ma'am.
You don’t want me to call you “maam”? How ‘bout this? BITCH! I hereby resign my commission and will take my retirement and go away.
I am sure that Mrs. Boxer worked "hard" to get that title, like writing a check is hard; or telling her husband to write a check is really hard work. I will admit for her that hard work is actually having to put coherent thoughts together, especially for those with disordered minds. Not that Boxer has to do that very often, maybe once every couple of years.
...worked "hard" indeed! She must like the sound of the word; she sure does not know what it means to the typical American, IMO.
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8: "No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States."
The General OR ANY CITIZEN can choose to use "Senator" when addressing Babs but she cannot DEMAND its use.
General Walsh is definitely a better man than me.
I think I would have resigned my commission on the spot, and told Ms Boxer to GTH...”
Someine in ICE needs to raid all of Boxer’s restaurants in N California abd perp walk the illegals they find on multiple cameras.
Hit her where it hurts, and where shein vulnerable.
I will admit for her that hard work is actually having to put coherent thoughts together, “
In reference to the thread about the ‘study on the non-use of condoms’....maybe Boxer should be included—I think she has 5 kids, so we may have 5 more clones of her brilliance up and coming.

Thank you!
That voicemail box is full too. I hope she discovers whate SHAME is but I ain’t holding my breath.
You're kidding right? LOL
We gonna do all we can to dump this sorry excuse for a human being come 11/2010!
She said it - we didn’t.
I thought “holding my breath” expressed my doubtfulness. I may donate to RNC again if they purposely and deliberately target that hag for defeat.
A talk show host formerly broadcast in the San Francisco Bay area used to refer to her as the “malignant midget from Marin (County).”
Not for nothing.
Her ilk was spitting on US serviceman returning from Vietnam, calling them ‘babykiller’.
It was an arrogant, appalling display, with a subtext that he was not paying her enough deference and respect, which was clearly a vile lie. I doubted that she could have fallen lower in my eyes, but with this latest malediction she most certainly has.
Unfortunately, the NRSC is using this as a fundraising incentive -- probably to support Carly Fiorina (who has more in common with Boxer than not)
DeVore will get my support -- the NRSC and Fiorina won't.
You may approve of this then:
PERFECT!
Not while he held the office of President. Then, the correct addresses were, "Mr. President" or, "President Bush".
Still though she is a virtual patron saint in CA. People there don’t think they could live without her.
