San Francisco’s alternative news source, Beyond Chron, pointed out yesterday that San Francisco Chronicle reporter Jaxon Van Derbeken was honored by the vehemently anti-immigrant group, Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), when they awarded him with their “Eugene Katz Award for Excellence in the Coverage of Immigration” last week.
According to Beyond Chron, Van Derbeken won the same award that was bestowed upon Lou Dobbs for “attacking San Francisco’s two-decade-old Sanctuary Ordinance and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against immigrant children.” Beyond Chron claims that Van Derbeken is partly responsible for Mayor Gavin Newsom’s “hasty” decision to issue a new policy “that puts innocent children in danger and undermines the fundamental right to due process.”
During his Q&A that CIS conveniently edited out of their video of the event, Van Derbeken admitted that he has often been accused of discrimination and biased reporting:...
In the current case, she's made a series of errors, and pointing out those errors at their site (not just here) would help show their readers that they can't trust CAP that much. Of course, that has to be done several times, but it really isn't that difficult since most of their entries contain various kinds of errors.
A comment you leave here is just preaching to the choir. In order to have an impact, you have to also go leave a comment at the link. And, the comment has to show how she's wrong. Even if you just pick one thing she's wrong about and then point that out, if enough people do that it would have an impact.
Reporting facts is a hate crime?
There’s no such thing as an “anti-immigrant” group, is there? I never heard of one.
Some of us want to enforce the laws that are on the books, including immigration laws, as all countries do, or should do, but I never heard of an anti-immigration movement.
Sounds like the author is full of BS. Unless the sane people of San Francisco rise up and take their city back, insane people like this author will keep on running the city into the ground at taxpayers expense of course.

You see, we are all racist anti immigrant morons if the facts are even reported, which is what CIS does!
This is pretty sad: the linked article has zero comments. I spend a lot of my own time each day doing things like I suggested in the first comment, and it would be great if somehow someone could motivate others to pick up the slack.
This site is great, but it’s an echo chamber. In order to actually have an impact you have to engage the other side and do as I suggested: show their supporters that they’re wrong.

I note there’s a comment above that “the comment is awaiting moderation”.
Can we run an experiment and determine if comments are being suppressed? I’ve had that happen on other CAP websites like Joe Romm’s site. CAP is the basement/sewer of the left, I wouldnt put anything past them.
