APNewsBreak: Notorious bomb maker from '80s to be put on FBI's terrorist list
Associated Press ^ | june 20, 2009 | ap

NEW YORK — An FBI official says a notorious terrorist suspected of aiding the insurgency in Iraq will be added to the agency's list of its most wanted terrorists.

The official said Monday that an FBI committee recommended this month that 73-year-old Palestinian Abu Ibrahim be placed on the list. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision wasn't official.

An investigation by The Associated Press had revealed the terrorist was still alive and had fled to Syria.

Ibrahim has been indicted in the 1982 bombing of Pam Am Flight 830. The explosion killed a 16-year-old boy and wounded more than a dozen passengers as the plane headed to Honolulu from Tokyo.

The FBI official says it could take months for Ibrahim to appear on the list.

The AP story also raised questions about whether Ibrahim had been involved in the insurgency.

Whew! The print version was much easier for these old eyes to read. ;o)

"The AP story also raised questions about whether Ibrahim had been involved in the insurgency."

They raised this question only to answer why Ibrahim was involved in the insurgency.

I think many people would stop reading at that point.

It's AP...

Thank you so much for the ping!

My bad...

I think many people would stop reading at the point where the question was asked.

You got it. This is very important as apologists and the uneducated on foreign affairs, such as George Nouri (Coast-to-Coast) keep saying that Saddam did nothing to the US, and that we put him in power in the 70’s.

Send this article to all your friends and contacts.

Thanks for the ping.

Several questions immediately arise:

1. Even if "it could take months ... to appear on the list" why would it take decades?

2. From Q1, then why did the name appear now on FBI list? Is "The Wall" back or being restored? Was not DHS created specifically for sharing of information between agencies, to facilitate the flow of information and reduce inter-agency friction so that agencies did not need to feel like having to invade each other's "turf"? Why should a longtime foreign terrorist be on the list of FBI, should not DHS or any other, more appropriate agency have the "honor" even if it's not made public and official, with all the pomp and circumstance? Or pomp and circumstance of "fighting terrorism" is what this is really all about?

3. Is this a part of "Obama doctrine" where he wants to run everything, including any foreign / military policy decisions through legal procedures / Justice Department, to which FBI is closest from any other agencies of DHS?

4. Or is it supposed to be more like a check mark in the "To Be Done" category, to claim jurisdiction if the man is found and/or caught somewhere, without any other action associated with it?

I know that FBI has jurisdiction on certain investigations overseas, but this one seems way out of normal circumstances where FBI would be involved, and Ibrahim had already been indicted for terrorism, decades before making it into the list.

Just seems a little weird.

I have of late been seeing a lady who works for the FBI. She is currently attached to the Dept of Commerce. She has said more than once that since the chosen one has taken over they don't know what is going on and what to do. Basically there is no leadership and no one whats to step up to the table for fear of being undercut. The laptop she sends and receives assignments with is still using DOS. Her software is incompatible with other agencies, ie. I.C.E., D.H.S etc.. The FBI is basically an “Inside the US borders” law enforcement agency although they do assist other international law enforcement where US citizens are involved. The department that is better equipped to handle “Outside” stuff is the CIA.

I also think that the chosen one has named this guy so he can say that his way of pursuing terrorists is better than Bush's.

Is this guy looking to retire in the U.S.?

[Ibrahim] has mostly remained out of reach, hiding in Baghdad since about 1979. He once ran a terrorist organization in Baghdad named "15 May" . . . Ibrahim was known to have worked closely with the Iraqi Intelligence Service. It's not clear if Ibrahim had any links with the Sunni-dominated Al-Qaida.

Unfortunately there is a cut-off date imposed by our MSM. If terrorist connections to Saddam were not generally known -- and regularly reported by the MSM -- by March 2003 they do not count and thus Saddam had no terrorist connections.

It's a rule of our "intellectual" class (also known as 1960s Marxist street rabble) and their ideologically motivated media.

”After the 2003 Iraq invasion, Ibrahim, a skilled operative, managed to elude coalition forces and moved from Baquobah to Mosul, which attracted insurgents and later became an Al-Qaida stronghold.

Ibrahim was known to have worked closely with the Iraqi Intelligence Service. It's not clear if Ibrahim had any links with the Sunni-dominated Al-Qaida.”

That is odd he sets up the base Al-Qaeda takes it over and the connections are not clear.

I found that Muhammad Atif (al Qaeda trainer) wrote in code to Abu Ibrahim (Iraqi Secret Service agent) on Nov 19 1997.
