SEMINOLE — Police nabbed a suspected bank robber after two different witnesses reported seeing him drunk and covered in red dye Thursday.

Pinellas County sheriff's detectives say Michael Prance, 53 and homeless, robbed RBC Bank at 11201 Park Boulevard in Seminole that day and got away.

Around 6 p.m. that day, a resident at the Caribbean Mobile Home Park in Seminole called police complaining of an intoxicated person at the pool. Witnesses told police he was stumbling around the pool with a bottle of wine and red dye on his clothes. After residents confronted him, he left.

Then, deputies got another call, this time from a PSTA bus driver who said the same man was belligerent at a bus stop in front of Seminole Subs, 11775 Seminole Blvd.

Deputies arrived and found Prance holding a bag covered with a substantial amount of red dye. The bag contained the full amount of money stolen from the bank. They arrested him around 7:30 p.m. and charged him with bank robbery and disorderly intoxication.

Looks like he didn't.

Now wait just a minute. Homeless, drunk, and obviously not the brightest coin in the till but he was able to rob a bank? I’d be taking my money out of that bank by noon.

I thought that also when I originally read the story. But, after thinking about it, I decided the police were so bad in this case, and obviously had several opportunities to catch this guy, that they probably wanted to save-face and not give the true details.

That’s just the way banks have decided to handle robberies. There’s no resistance and the let the cops and FBI deal with it. It’s the same way with all banks.
