Things look normal until about 1:45 into the video, when the protesters start throwing much bigger stones. The police start to retreat, and the protesters take off after them.

The police did look like they were throwing stones into the much larger crowd of protesters. The police were evidently ill equipped and obviously heavily outnumbered. The sound tactic they utilized was a speedy retreat.

The police have not been given the green light to use live rounds or the roles would have been reversed. I think that the mullahs have not made up their minds as how to react to the demonstrations.
If the mullahs really wanted to, the demonstrations could have been over the day after they started. Remember that the protesters are only able to bring rocks to a gunfight and that those carrying the guns have been restrained up to now because of the world’s scrutiny.
This is hopeful sign. The unfortunate people of Iran have put up with a lot from their governments.
Need this for tear-gas canisters. With the babes..!

Back when the Shah was being protested the protesters often wore simple white paper masks. The Iranian protesters need to start wearing these paper masks. IMHO, the psychological impact on the mullahs would have to be significant.

A "slingshot" is a toy, made with rubber bands. David killed Goliath with a sling, which is a deadly weapon, requiring a great deal of skill to use.

If they can play cat and mouse for a few more days, some of the security forces may switch sides, or fail to show up for their shift.
Give it a few more days, and it might. I don’t think the street fighting at this level can be sustained for long. Either the protesters give up and the regime wins, or the protesters cause some police to switch sides. History is being made.
It’s true that some powerful slingshots have been built, but the slings of David’s day could kill at a longer range than a contemporary bow and arrow. The thing that was amazing about David’s kill shot, against Goliath, was the accuracy, not the power.

Powerful video, the more of this that gets out and the longer the protestors can sustain or increase their crowd sizes, the more exposed as illegitimate the mullas and their regime will be to the world. At least I hope so.
As we have all been saying for ten years now: We have a front seat to history; pay attention.
Step two follows: Take their rocks and the few firearms they just got, and focus on and isolate a few more government police, taking their weapons as their own. Keep doing that strategegorically, and soon they will have a bunch of rocks and a whole bunch of guns.
And the more peasants who appropriate the government police sticks that shoot 1,000fps "rocks", the more the police will rethink their career choice, and may well quit their jobs on-the-spot.
It works on paper, anyway.
