Here's the thing: If a popular uprising can put Mousavi into power, then a later popular uprising can take him back out of power if need be. This lesson will not be lost on Mousavi, and it definitely won't be lost on the Iranian people. Plus, optimistically, Mousavi is issuing statements that suggest he'll be a kinder, gentler theocratic thug: "Previously, he was revolutionary, because everyone inside the system was a revolutionary. But now he's a reformer. Now he knows Gandhi – before he knew only Che Guevara."

I believe this has gone beyond those two politicians/candidates. The people I am talking to want to be free and not have "Supremne Leaders" who are unelected.

They are, more and more often now saying "Death to Khamanie".

For them, no going back from that.

And don't you for a second think that you know me or my heart. I did not say I was superior. I simply said I was armed. And as armed Americans, if a Basij tried what is happening in Iran, lead would be flying the other way...or I will be dead.

It is why the left is desperate to disarm us. They know that if they push too hard, that the result will be very bad for them.

I have ghreat resect for the Iranian fighting right now. I send them that message each day. I pray God's blessings on them and pray we can and will help them more.

Iranians - proving once again why they are the cream of the Muslim world......

When I was still teaching at University of Dayton, we had a lot of Iranian students. I remember them as being top-notch. After the Shah was ousted, they no longer were able to come.

Oh c’mon now, you can throw out some bones can’t you?

His nephew probably didn't throw out many bones. ;-)

I've been in conversation with a couple of friends who work near the border.

Like Repeal said, what they're not telling us is very telling.

We can't really even get any good dirt here in Baghdad, but we know there is some.

Wose acting Holier than thou? Says you?

I simply stated...and stand by it, that 80 million armed Americans would prevent a Basif. That says nothing negative about Iranians...it says something positive about Americans...and there is a huge difference between the two...and thank God we have retained that right to date. That is not Holier than thou, that is simply a statement of fact.

And, I will continue expressing my belief and sugestion to any Iranian I cna, that they in fact win their liberty and then ensure that they stay armed. I bet you hundreds of thousands of them wish they had guns now.

Now, on the other hand, you seem have some kind of ax to grind who has reacted to a simple, unambiguous statement and took it personally like you sat on a corn cobb or something.

It was not meant that way...and I do not know how I can say it any clearer.

I respect what the Iranian people are doing, I am for a truly Azadi Persia, and am trying to help in any way I can.

So...at least as far as your statements of me personally are concerned...stick a sock in it, because you are reading it absolutley 110% wrong.

80 million armed americans have sat on their fat butts for 3 disputed elections in a row.

Iranians have shown the most guts of any culture since the Russians or Romanians in the 80s. To have the gall to say that we can teach them anything is absurd.

Ah...3 disputed elections you say? Which were those?

Which elections were such an absolute farce as to warrant taking to the streets and overthrowing the government?

There have been none.

Has their been abuse? Yes. Has there been some fraud, even significant in some cases? Yes.

Has it reached a point where we need to have a civil war and turn it over? No for me...not yet.

Clinton was elected on minorities, but done so after Perot got in and split the vote. I do not believe we lost as a result of a failed voting process...we lost because we got split.

Do you believe Bush the election from Gore?

I don't. The Surpeme Court, as is its duty, got into that when called upon and ruled that the vote was counted correctly...and if anything, the freaud was on the other side and Bush even had more votes.

There was definite vote fraud in the 2008 Presidential election (and there is some in all of them), but not enough to overcome the results, and the law is looking into it...just as it has with past elections and people have been prosecuted and put away.

I still believe...just as I did during the Carter years when conditions were about as bad, and worse in some areas, that we can turn this around at the next vote ifd we will get involved...in this case in 2010 and 2012.

We do not need an armed rebellion at this point. But millions of us are armed and remained prepared for one just the same. I do not know about you, but I am continually writing my reps and senators, and posting articles, to remind them of why wa stay armed.

If the time came, we would use them.

You still don't get it.

The issue is not left or right. The issue is that Americans, both left and right are so fat and complacent that they're unwilling/unable to stand up for themselves. You can have all the guns in the world, but if you're eating ding dongs and sitting in front of the television, they're meaningless.

...no, IMHO, you don't get it. And you paint with far too broad a brush. Millions are not fat, dumb, or complacant.

But we've both had our say, and now we are talking in circles.

I am content to let others judge between us as the read.

Feel as you please, but your judgement of me and many other Americans is way off base. I can say that because I know my own heart and the hearts of many others that you do not know.

But you go ahead think as you will...it is your right.

There's just no need to keep arguing semantics. You do what you feel best to address the issues you are saddled up for, and I will do the same for the issues I am saddled up for.

Jeff, there will be no honest and open elections here in 2010. Remember who we’re dealing with. And they’re loading their pants over what’s happening in Iran. They’re scared of what the Tea Parties represent here.

Fearful wanna-be tyrants do desperate and stupid things. They’ll go to any length to stay in power. Because they are driven by the Will to Power. They are worshipers in the same pew as Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro and Stalin. Demons dance on their empty altars.

As Lurker has said, there is only one way this can end.

Don't you think it tells us a lot that the Iranian authorities are NOT shooting in mass? I think it says that Iran may be at a "Poland/East Germany" moment where they are more afraid of shooting than not shooting.

We shall see. I believe we can force good elections in 2010 and start turning it around then, and complete a turn around (at least of elected officials) in 2012.

Many had the same thoughts with Carter because of the depth of his and his administrations ties to marxistic thought back then in those very bad times.

We must be prepared if we are unsuccessful, indeed, we should always be prepared, but we also have to work for it and do all in our power to make it work according to the constitution.

I will not, and cannot give up on that until they force it themselves...although, as I say, we should be prepared for them to do just that at any time.

We shall see then, what transpires and respond accordingly.

Don't, for a moment, think that you are in *any* way superior.

Except for the fact you are under the slavery of islam good luck ever finding freedom until you buck that...yep, we are in a better position, a heck of a better position.

Give me any country where Christianity is its foundation over an islamic country any day...no matter how bad that country is at least there is hope there for future freedom. Even if you manage to find some freedoms the fundamentalist (those following your religion devoutly) will always fight to replace those freedoms with islamic law and with the ebb and flow of politics they will win again sometime in the future. Yours will be a constant, never ending fight against your own religion just to gain said freedoms much less keep them.

It's the Basif on the rooftops who are armed and doing most of the shooting. I keep waiting for several hundred of these people to take some of them down sometime (if they havn't already) and pick up the resulting rifles.

One of the Basif HQs was burnt down last night so I imagine some arms are already filtering out there.

It is surpriosing that after that incident, the Mullahs didn't take the gloves completely off. Makes you wonder just how many loyal military they have, willing to go that far?

If they have what they deam enough, and go for it, that's when you will see whole sale military and police units turning on the despotic units and go to civil war.

My guess is the Mullahs fear this and that is why they are trying to sit it out with less force...in fact, I can think of no other reason for these fundamentalists to do so.

All the more reason for our administration to encourage the fall of the mullahs.

You can bet Bibi and the Israelis are, and with more than just words.

In America, the phrase will now be, don’t bring a Rock to a Gun fight.

This situation, like Hitler disarming the German population, creates an easy rebuke to any of those Gun Grabbers on the left.

The Second Amendment ain’t about Hunting and Sportsmen, it is about Protecting Liberty from Tyranny.

You don’t want to be one of those Basij bikers when the bike goes down. It’s a great tactic when it’s many bikers against a few demonstrators. But let that bike go down in a crowd, adn there will be hell to pay.

I would think that after the first day, there would be protesters with backpacks full of containers of motor oil and long lengths of wire.

Driving your motorcycle over an oil slick has the makings of a bad day, as would running into a wire strung between light posts, set about neck-high for a rider.

It can happen anywhere. Even armed police or military understand that being outnumbered by a high enough ratio guarantees your defeat. Gen. Custer established that.

Aitch-e-el-el, Leonidas established that a long time before Custer. And if I thought about it for a while I bet I could come up with someone before Leonidas.

Fox just showed a clip with one of the motorcycles down and the protesters closing in on the basij.

I remember the last "mini-riot" they had a few years back. The basij thugs came out on the motorcycles, and it was over. This time, the basij are being besieged.

How old are you?

Here's an aerial photo of the Washington DC riots in 1968

I watched the smoke columns rise over downtown, and then in other neighborhoods one after the other from an office building in Rossyln VA, across from Georgetown. It looked like the city had been bombed.

That photo doesn't show the half of it.

Police, National Guard, and Federal troops established a cordon sanitaire around DC at the Beltway. D.C. Stadium was used as an open air detention center for quite awhile.

I was stuck in Virginia and couldn't get home for three days

Turks are good people. Egyptians are pretty tough too.

If you back far enough, a Kurd led the Turks to power. Another Kurd also led Egypt when it took Jerusalem back from the Crusaders. More recently the Kurds fought Saddam Hussein for years. Saddam was also hung for using WMD on the Kurds. That's probably why the Turks are set against a Kurdish State. It would be a powerhouse with the Oil Money flowing.
