WASHINGTON - The inspector general of Amtrak unexpectedly resigned Thursday night, becoming the third such federal official to leave prematurely since the Obama administration took office and the latest in a string of potentially controversial moves involving government watchdogs. Fred E. Weiderhold, a 35-year veteran of the agency who was responsible for rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, is the most high-profile change among the group of senior government officials who have responsibility to conduct independent investigations of federal agencies and institutions.
As Amtraks first and only Inspector General, Fred has made important contributions in helping the Board of Directors understand key issues facing the railroad and made useful recommendations to improve how we do business, Amtrak chairman Thomas Carper said in a statement yesterday. We thank him for his dedicated service to Amtrak and wish him well in his retirement.
Cliff Black, an Amtrak spokesman, confirmed that Weiderhold has been replaced by acting Inspector General Lorraine A. Green, saying only that Weiderhold retired.
But several officials who asked not to be identified raised questions about the development, which set off alarm bells among some close Amtrak watchers.

I wonder how Obama and his thugs got him to leave? A little TARP money in his pocket? A nice villa in Bermuda?
Something smells rotten.
Don Zero offered him an offer he couldn’t refuse?
I remember riding on the Amtrak back in 2004 through Illinois. The conductors were handing out anti-Bush material to passengers on the train. They handed me a paper that had a list of reason why the Bush Administration was a disaster for Amtrak. Had a list of budget cuts the Bush Administration was planning to do to Amtrak. It even went as far to say that if we don’t act now, and make the right decision in November then the Bush Administration will remove Amtrak all together. Well here we are 5 years later, and we still have Amtrak.
Me being 21 at the time, I read it, laughed, and thought wow paranoid idiot liberals, and threw it away. I didn’t think about reporting it at the time.
Looks like Obama does not want any responsible person watching over the Taxpayer trillions that are going down a rathole, Typical lying hipocrit
Time for a Railroad Czar........
So, did the Obamunists give him the usual one hour to resign or be fired?
