Same old question.

Thou shall not kill.

Okay, I can understand that. But if given half a chance I would take this guy out so quick and not even blink. Because sure millions of lives are worth more in a land built on God’s principles, than an that of an inhuman animal.

Besides if we nuke them what do we do with that much glass?? That is what would happen to the sand and I don’t think we need that much glass anywhere.

al-Qaeda's third in command

Third in command now? A few years ago all those "2nd in command" were getting popped off right and left ... guess nobody wants that job title anymore ......

“Abu al-Yazid Mending Fences with Hamas”
Thomas Hegghammer
July 10th, 2009 | Arab media, Hamas, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, propaganda

I

SNIPPET: “The most significant part of the interview was Abu al-Yazid’s endorsement of Hamas. “We support the sincere mujahidin in Palestine, even the mujahidin of Hamas. We support them and help them; they are our brothers; we and they have the same ideology and the same method,” Abu al-Yazid said. This is quite a different message from that of Ayman al-Zawahiri and Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, who have been relentless in their criticism of Hamas in the past few years.

Not surprisingly, this caused quite a debate on the forums (see also here and here), where Hamas has long been subject of criticism (see e.g. here, here and here).

Abu al-Yazid’s statement was clearly an attempt by al-Qaida to mend fences with the broader Islamist movement and reach out to a wider audience. His choice of podium was surely no coincidence, for he is well aware that most al-Jazeera viewers are sympathetic to Hamas.

It has been a while since I heard a top al-Qaida member speak as clearly and straightforwardly as Abu al-Yazid did here. He gave simple and seemingly honest answers to questions about al-Qaida’s organizational structure in Afghanistan, attacks called off against the US, the issue of two Islamic emirates (Iraq and Afghanistan), and many other things. Rob at the Shack is also right that overall, Abu al-Yazid’s remarks were not outlandishly radical when seen from the Arab street (the nuclear remark apart, obviously).

With the Abu al-Yazid interview, al-Qaida undoubtedly regained some of the popular support lost over the past few years. It is a reminder of how good al-Qaida can be at PR when they want to.”

“Terror suspect Najibullah Zazi was in touch with Al Qaeda leader Mustafa al-Yazid”
BY HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Updated Wednesday, October 14th 2009, 4:29 PM

SNIPPET: “Najibullah Zazi, 24, had contacts through a middleman with Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, the terror leader who earlier this year said he would use nukes on America if he could only get his hands on some.

Al-Yazid is an Egyptian who has worked closely with Osama bin Laden, Al Qaeda’s fugitive leader.”

SNIPPET: “Prosecutors say Zazi admitted when he was arrested last month that he “received instructions from Al Qaeda operatives on subjects such as weapons and explosives” during a trip to Pakistan in 2008.”

SNIPPET: “The feds say they found nine pages of handwritten bomb-making instructions in Zazi’s e-mail. The directions to make explosives of hydrogen peroxide and flour are similar to the bombs used by terrorists to bomb the London subway in 2005, killing 52 people.

Zazi and his friends bought up “unusual quantities of hydrogen and acetone products,” according to court papers. The store of chemicals has not been found.”

DEAD JIHADI UPDATE:

http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2010/05/top_al_qaeda_leader_1.php

“Top al Qaeda leader Mustafa Abu Yazid confirmed killed in airstrike in North Waziristan”
By BILL ROGGIO
May 31, 2010

SNIPPET: “Mustafa Abu Yazid, who is also known as Sheikh Saeed al Masri, was killed in the May 21 Predator strike in the village of Mohammed Khel in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan. Datta Khel is a known al Qaeda hub in North Waziristan.

As Sahab, al Qaeda’s propaganda arm, released a statement announcing Yazid’s death on Al Ansar, a jihadist forum.”

SNIPPET: “Yazid is one of al Qaeda’s most important leaders, and he will be difficult to replace. He served as al Qaeda’s leader in Afghanistan and what the terror group refers to as the Khorasan, a region that encompasses large areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Iran. The Khorasan is considered by jihadists to be the place where they will inflict the first defeat against their enemies in the Muslim version of Armageddon. The final battle is to take place in the Levant - Israel, Syria, and Lebanon.

The 9-11 Commission identified Yazid as al Qaeda’s “chief financial manager.” In this role, Yazid was responsible for disbursing al Qaeda funds from what is known as the Bayt al Mal, al Qaeda’s treasury. This responsibility made Yazid one of the most trusted and important al Qaeda leaders. Because of this responsibility, Yazid is considered by some analysts to be al Qaeda’s third in command.

Yazid was a founding member of Ayman al Zawahiri’s branch of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, one of the original groups that merged to form al Qaeda. Yazid spent time in jail with Zawahiri after the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981.

He also served as a top propagandist. Yazid has appeared on propaganda tapes with senior Taliban leaders, and has announced the deaths of top al Qaeda leaders and operatives over the years.”

Officials: Al Qaeda No.3 Killed
ABC News ^ | Monday, May 31, 2010 | Jake Tapper and George Stephanopoulos
Posted on May 31, 2010 6:43:26 PM PDT by kristinn

US officials tell ABC News that al Qaeda’s No. 3 — Mustafa Ahmed Muhammad Uthman Abu al-Yazid, known as Shaikh Sa’id al-Masri and Mustafa Abu al-Yazid – has been killed. Al Qaeda released a eulogy of Shaikh Sa’id tonight, officials said.

“Word is spreading in extremist circles of the death of Sheikh Sa’id al-Masri, widely viewed as the number three figure in al-Qaeda,” a US official told ABC News. “We have strong reason to believe that’s true, and that al-Masri was killed recently in Pakistan’s tribal areas. In terms of counterterrorism, this would be a big victory.”

US officials believed him to have been killed about a week ago in Pakistan.

Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri are the spiritual founders, and considered No. 1 and No. 2 of al Qaeda list, but Shaikh Sa’id is considered the link between those two and rest of the operation, and for all intents and purposes the one running the organization day to day.

“Al-Masri was the group’s chief operating officer,” the official said, “with a hand in everything from finances to operational planning. He was also the organization’s prime conduit to Bin Ladin and Zawahiri. He was key to al-Qaeda’s command and control.”
