A commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards has been arrested for refusing to obey Iran's Supreme Leader, according to reports from the Balatarin website.
General Ali Fazli, who was recently appointed as a commander of the Revolutionary Guards in the province of Tehran, is reported to have been arrested after he refused to carry out orders from the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to use force on people protesting the controversial re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Fazli, a veteran of the devastating Iran-Iraq war is also believed to have been sacked and taken to an unknown location.
The Revolutionary Guards is a separate body to the mainstream armed forces in Iran and is seen as one of the main and most powerful bodies responsible for protecting the Islamic theocratic regime.
Earlier today the Revolutionary Guards issued a warning on its website threatening to come down hard on Iranians who continue protesting against what many in the country see as rigged elections.
God bless this brave commander...we will probably never hear of him again.
My guess is that they have found someone who will give the orders and now we will see what the Colonels and NCOs will do.
Then there is also the regular Army, whom I believe is also balking.
It was George Bush's policy of direct engagement and support of liberty that has led to the people of Iran seeing the measure of freedom now established on both sides of them in Iraq and Afghjanistan...and desiring it for themselves.
Those policies are now coming to fruition in Iran, despite the Obamanation and his policies.
The fight in Iran is far from over, and continues getting more and more brutal.

I believe this thing is quickly outrunning the "candidates". The many, many young people (and a lot of the older ones too) of Iran want freedom, not another puppet to tyranical Islamic rule.
I believe we could see the birth or republicanism in Iran, but it may very possibly become much more bloody before it is over. Desopite this development, it is likely that there are many in the Basij and many in the Revoultionary Guard who are not likely to go quietly.
The key is, "What will the regular Army do?" And will they (say, Like Washington) be willing to take part in ending the Islamic tyranny and then hand it over to a new, true Republic?
At this point, the people may not accept anything less.
One thing is sure...it is Bush's direct engagement, support of liberty, and policies that are driving this. Still bearing fruit. Obama is trying like crazy to spin this to his advantage, but we cannot let him lie and try and steal it. His policies would have made this impossible...just as they would have made Iraq impossible.
Over the last two days, a number of MSM talking heads and analysts have talked about what they believe to a crucial “tipping point”.
I’m curious as to what the rank and file of the Rev Guards will say when their officers are being arrested. Will they say “Oh, so-and-so was a traitor to the Revolution” or will they say “Wait a friggin’ minute! The mullahs can’t do that to our officers. Let’s even the score”?
Is this a tipping point? I gotta think there are more Rev Guard officers who are feeling like the one who got arrested.

Agreed, 100%. It takes time for policies put in place to take effect. History is a slow but inevitable mover of all things human. A few stones start to roll and soon you have an avalanche. Iraq and Afghanistan were first (easier targets).
The death knell of radical Islam will be terrible and bloody. Hopefully, BO won't screw it up too much. But what if he really is an Islamist? It will make it more difficult to succeed against them. Nukes are the hidden threat here. An "Islamic Bomb" could alter the the balance of power in a way we can't see or predict at this moment. Pakistan must be optioned out of the picture as it is . . . not stable enough to remain trustworthy - I mean Iran could lash out in ways we can't predict at this point.
Many forces are at work right now behind the scenes, attempting to sway matters to their own opportunistic way. We need to work with our most trusted allies (British, Canadian, Australian, Israeli) under the radar and coordinate our steps to keep things from going chaotic (read: nuclear).
This, I fear, is beyond our current POTUS's ability to do, much less see. W may not have been a "great" President, but he wasn't as bad as the (liberal) pundits say. Oh, if only Reagan were still around to be able to stand up and give one of his speeches.
Great times bring forth great men (leaders). Let us hope we still have some left who will come forth.

Damn, I'd hate to see that pretender get any credit for something good to come out of the MidEast, but if it leads to more freedom for more people and safety for the world in general, I think I might be able to swallow hard and accept it for a time until the real truth surfaces.
Somewhere today I read that Rafsanjani is siding with the people - against the current 'Supreme Leader" - and along with about half of the moderate Mullahs in the 'council' (some of whom have actually gone on the street to march with the people to 'protect them from those who would fire guns at the people.')
If there is any truth in that story, and there seems to be quite a bit of collaborating commentary in tweets from Iran, but no 'proof' - this may be exactly what will bring the current leadership to flee for their very lives.
Tweets from Iran though expect things to get much worse in the next two days.
It's been pretty awful - the only way it gets 'worse' is deliberate murder of all unarmed citizens in sight.
