Iran Revolutionary Guard Commander arrested for refusing to use force on protesters

A commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards has been arrested for refusing to obey Iran's Supreme Leader, according to reports from the Balatarin website.

General Ali Fazli, who was recently appointed as a commander of the Revolutionary Guards in the province of Tehran, is reported to have been arrested after he refused to carry out orders from the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to use force on people protesting the controversial re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Fazli, a veteran of the devastating Iran-Iraq war is also believed to have been sacked and taken to an unknown location.

The Revolutionary Guards is a separate body to the mainstream armed forces in Iran and is seen as one of the main and most powerful bodies responsible for protecting the Islamic theocratic regime.

Earlier today the Revolutionary Guards issued a warning on its website threatening to come down hard on Iranians who continue protesting against what many in the country see as rigged elections.

One nicely placed cruise missile designated for one dirty diaper wearing supreme mullah would do a lot of good!

National Tea Party Rally in DC...July 4th, 2009.

I’m flying an Iranian flag. When 52% of my countrymen willingly vote themselves into slavery, it seems more appropriate to fly the flag of a people who are risking all for Liberty.

This would be so easy to fix, we could simply call all of the military leaders in Iran and tell them if they remove the Mullahs from power we would make them rich for the rest of their lives (just like we did in Iraq).

But 0 can't do that because he knows the real reason why this is happening in Iran is because the people in Iran watched Iraq have 5 free and fair elections; they see Freedom next door and they want it too.

If the Mullahs lose power then no matter how they try to spin it they wont be able to hide the fact that the Bush doctrine worked and that going into Iraq and setting up a democracy in the heart of the Middle East changed the world and made it and the United States safer .

Militant Islam would die on the vine, Hammas and Hezbollah would crumble. Palestinians would have no choice but to seek peace; Kim Jong Il and Hugo Chavez would be left alone and twisting in the wind.

And after the dust settled there would be Berry 0bama, the one guy who "voted against the war in Iraq" (although he wasn't actually someone who could have voted at the time).

That is why Zer0 is the only President in our 233 year history who has not taken a stand for freedom.

God bless those seeking freedom in Iran- Let Freedom Ring.

Assuming these reports are right, this commander will be used as an example to others who dare to refuse the Supreme Leader’s orders.

There would have to be massive resistance in the Army and Revolutionary Guards to overcome the repressive regime.

I’m curious as to what the rank and file of the Rev Guards will say when their officers are being arrested. Will they say “Oh, so-and-so was a traitor to the Revolution” or will they say “Wait a friggin’ minute! The mullahs can’t do that to our officers. Let’s even the score”?

Depends. Stalin was able to decimate his officer corp, and not one of them said anything except how wonderful Stalin was.

On the other hand messing with armed men is dangerous. At lot more dangerous than shooting unarmed civilians on the street.

How many of his own officers did Sadaam Hussein kill?

Jeff, I’ve been reading about the deep inspection tool the Iranian government is using on Twitter and Facebook postings. Siemens and Nokia have provided it to them so they can basically spy on every posting before it is submitted to the sites.

It’s so troubling how international business interests support totalitarianism.

Yeah, like Yahoo in China handing over info about dissidents to the government.

Hardware networking companies providing embedded spyware in their product sales to China.

Well, heck, IBM Hollerith tabulating machines sold to Germany for their census proved invaluable to the Nazis later.

Sometimes profits can be the very antithesis of liberty.
