The cap of an entertaining, wide-ranging press conference that included a spirited defense of the public health care option: A carefully-framed, detailed question from Obama on his smoking habit.
"You just think it's neat to ask me about my smoking," he told the reporter, before conceding that he has "fallen off the wagon sometimes."
"Am I a daily, a constant smoker? No," he said. "I don't do it in front of my kids. i don't do it in front of my family."
Obama said he was "95% cured" and compared himself to a recovering alcoholic.
"Once you've gone down this path, it's something you continually struggle with," he said.
It's a rare admission of personal weakness in a politician whose personal discipline has always been notable.
But they are so dumb, they never suspect why I smell like an ash tray!!
Larry Sinclair smokes, too.
Do as The Obama says, not as The Obama does.

Speaking of which, is he still clean of the alcohol and cocaine abuse of his youth?
So, where does he smoke? The Rose Garden outside his office?
The golf course?
And who buys the cigs for him?
Someone is always watching him. But then, The Secret Service can keep a secret.
I really don’t care if the guy smokes. I think it’s hard to make an argument for it; but if he wants one now and then, I don’t see the harm.
I know from some friends who are “in the know” that he smokes all the time...like a chimney

If he does it anywhere in the WhiteHouse isn’t he violating a Federal Regulation
The press said that he stunk of cigarettes (that he was sneaking) during the campaign, when he proclaimed he had GIVEN UP smoking.
Some would say that was a LIE and a broken CAMPAIGN PROMISE. But he was their boy, so they wouldn’t point out such little white lies to voters.
Larry smokes the White Owl brand of cigars.
If he thinks not smoking in front of his kids is going to keep them from smoking later, what’s going to happen when they listen to his book on tape (or read it) and find his confessions of youthful usage of pot, coke, and alcohol?
I guess that shows what he knows about alcoholism.
I know of no recovered alcoholic that even considers themselves 1% cured, even if they have been sober for decades.
Perhaps he is still struggling with the first step-admitting his powerlessness.
I would think he could smoke in his private residence, Hillary was the one that banned smoking in the white house.. so Bill devised another use for his cigars
He’s broken more important pledges than quitting cigs.
It is inherent in the leftist mindset and worldview that the elite cannot be expected to abide by the rules that they would impose on everyone else. There are a couple of reasons for this mindset.
One, they all believe that they are the elite, from the president down to the hempstinkin’ college campus lib, and that they, being the intellectual elite, can handle the responsibility of the behavior that they’d prohibit everyone else from doing.
Two, they believe that the collectivist goals that the elite are trying to achieve are too important to hamper those persons with the requirement to abide by the rules.

George Orwell observed Stalinists first hand in the Socialist movement in the West.
All Animals Are Equal. Some are more equal than others.
“Larry smokes the White Owl brand of cigars.”
He prefers a Maduro.
“I don’t do it in front of my kids. i don’t do it in front of my family.”

Yep, he does it in the back of a limo with Larry Sinclair.
Yeah right. He can't even show up to his appointments on time. How disciplined is that?
He wouldn’t release his own health records, lied to the voters about ending his own nasty habit, wants to restrict others use of tobacco, and attacked John McCain’s health during the 2008 campaign.
He’s a low rent thug and as pledges go, it may not be “important” but it was Barack who claimed that it IS important.
I don’t care either, it is just the Leftist power grab over tobacco by the FDA and their prime mover is a smoker.
The media has nothing to say; Gibbs apologizes...and we move on.
It’s not as important, ironically, as his plans for Obamacare. Nor is it as important as the so-called Stimulus bill. Nor is it as important as that 400 billion dollar Omnibus Bill.
Cigs for Obama? I couldn’t care less.
I’m not a smoker. You aren’t a smoker.
But he just told smokers they can’t have flavored cigarettes (well, anything fruity, they can still buy menthol).
First they came for the smokers...
He shouldn’t compare himself to an alcoholic who has recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body -——they don’t drink no matter what.
He is a smoler no matter how little or where
And then they throw in a sprinkle of indignance to, and belittlement of, the questioner...for good measure: "You just want to *get me* about my smoking."
Coulter went over this in “Guilty”.
Libs constantly reframe the question/debate such that they are the victims when they are challenged on a behavior or policy that is clearly in the wrong.
> Cigs for Obama? I couldnt care less.
I do. He’s a two-bit junkie who somehow made the big time.
Smoke up, Obama. Toke up. Snort up. Shoot up. Bottoms up. As much as you want, as often as you want, Obama. Don’t deny yourself! Light ‘em if you gottem. Chase that dragon. And always remember: the first one’s FREE...
Refrain=reframe
Thank you, MrB. “Guilty” bump. ;-)
What a condescending a**! Given his latest push for folks to live healthier lifestyles, it was a fair question.
Yes, and that's the secret of the government power grab.
It's okay if we dictate or legislate away smokers rights, because after all, it's unhealthy and and and. And even conservatives fall right in line.
Next they dictate what food you can eat, and tax calories
Next they....
No matter what anyone believes about the wisdom or lack thereof of using tobacco, it's none of their or the governments friggin business.
So...does he smoke in the Oval? Or the Lincoln bedroom? Or in Tony Hawk's hallway?
When they tell companies (and smokers) that they cannot have FLAVORS (not because they are “harmful” but because they make the product “paletable”) and cannot advertised this way or that way...
They are enforcing control outside of public wellbeing.
If it is deadly, ban it outright. No subsidizing its growth and the tobacco farmer vote. No taxing it to fund socialist programs. No class action lawsuits by the government against the companies that sell it.
But it makes money for the State, keeps some people voting for them, and its prohibition would cause a backlash at the polls on election day as millions suffered (non-fatal) withdrawl symptoms.
That’s a national secret. It isn’t like when Joe Biden blabbed where the VP goes into shelter during attacks like occurred on 9-11.
I wonder if “flavors” includes the menthols that Barry smokes...
I was thinking along the lines of a philly blunt and a fowldy ouce.
Like Bush?
I quit smoking cold turkey 38 years ago. On Saturday I mark the seventh anniversary of my last drink. I'm still an alcoholic.
Cold turkey 16 yrs ago. The only way to do it.
The difference between you and Obama is that you know you're the only person who can do something about your habit.
I'm sure he's "95% cured".
“whose personal discipline”
What discipline? Playing golf on a regular basis?
The Obamessiah - 99 44/100% pure, OR YOUR MONEY BACK!
If Zero were half the “good father” he claims to be, he would totally stop smoking and stop giving bad example to his girls.
I heard he “disappeared” on Father’s day (to play golf)?
Forget about “being an example”, you’d think he’d do what he can to live into a HEALTHY old age to be there for his daughters later in life.
He’s a homo. Does he do that in front of his family?
