Obama: A smoking 'struggle' (hypocrite)
Politico.Com ^ | 6/23/09

Posted on 06/23/2009 12:40:51 PM PDT by llevrok

The cap of an entertaining, wide-ranging press conference that included a spirited defense of the public health care option: A carefully-framed, detailed question from Obama on his smoking habit.

"You just think it's neat to ask me about my smoking," he told the reporter, before conceding that he has "fallen off the wagon sometimes."

"Am I a daily, a constant smoker? No," he said. "I don't do it in front of my kids. i don't do it in front of my family."

Obama said he was "95% cured" and compared himself to a recovering alcoholic.

"Once you've gone down this path, it's something you continually struggle with," he said.

It's a rare admission of personal weakness in a politician whose personal discipline has always been notable.

Speaking of which, is he still clean of the alcohol and cocaine abuse of his youth?

So, where does he smoke? The Rose Garden outside his office?

The golf course?

And who buys the cigs for him?

Someone is always watching him. But then, The Secret Service can keep a secret.

I really don’t care if the guy smokes. I think it’s hard to make an argument for it; but if he wants one now and then, I don’t see the harm.

If a b’weep-b’wow eats properly then he/she will, over time, become a normal sized person. When a smoker decides to never smoke again they immediately become a non smoker.

The press said that he stunk of cigarettes (that he was sneaking) during the campaign, when he proclaimed he had GIVEN UP smoking.

Some would say that was a LIE and a broken CAMPAIGN PROMISE. But he was their boy, so they wouldn’t point out such little white lies to voters.

If he thinks not smoking in front of his kids is going to keep them from smoking later, what’s going to happen when they listen to his book on tape (or read it) and find his confessions of youthful usage of pot, coke, and alcohol?

Obama said he was "95% cured" and compared himself to a recovering alcoholic.

I guess that shows what he knows about alcoholism.

I know of no recovered alcoholic that even considers themselves 1% cured, even if they have been sober for decades.

Perhaps he is still struggling with the first step-admitting his powerlessness.

It is inherent in the leftist mindset and worldview that the elite cannot be expected to abide by the rules that they would impose on everyone else. There are a couple of reasons for this mindset.

One, they all believe that they are the elite, from the president down to the hempstinkin’ college campus lib, and that they, being the intellectual elite, can handle the responsibility of the behavior that they’d prohibit everyone else from doing.

Two, they believe that the collectivist goals that the elite are trying to achieve are too important to hamper those persons with the requirement to abide by the rules.

He wouldn’t release his own health records, lied to the voters about ending his own nasty habit, wants to restrict others use of tobacco, and attacked John McCain’s health during the 2008 campaign.

He’s a low rent thug and as pledges go, it may not be “important” but it was Barack who claimed that it IS important.

It’s not as important, ironically, as his plans for Obamacare. Nor is it as important as the so-called Stimulus bill. Nor is it as important as that 400 billion dollar Omnibus Bill.

Cigs for Obama? I couldn’t care less.

But he just told smokers they can’t have flavored cigarettes (well, anything fruity, they can still buy menthol).

First they came for the smokers...

Whenever Rats rephrase/refrain questions you know they're lying and/or obfuscating: "Do I smoke every day?" And then he quickly raises the "bar" or "threshold" before there's any answer to the "smoke every day" part...skipping along to the "Am I a CONSTANT smoker?"

And then they throw in a sprinkle of indignance to, and belittlement of, the questioner...for good measure: "You just want to *get me* about my smoking."

Coulter went over this in “Guilty”.

Libs constantly reframe the question/debate such that they are the victims when they are challenged on a behavior or policy that is clearly in the wrong.

First they came for the smokers...

Yes, and that's the secret of the government power grab.
It's okay if we dictate or legislate away smokers rights, because after all, it's unhealthy and and and. And even conservatives fall right in line.
Next they dictate what food you can eat, and tax calories
Next they....
No matter what anyone believes about the wisdom or lack thereof of using tobacco, it's none of their or the governments friggin business.

I wish the reporter had followed up by asking him where he smokes. After all, don't his sycophants live and die on his every gas-passing? Don't they love, in their mind's eye, visualizing his every daily move(ment)?

So...does he smoke in the Oval? Or the Lincoln bedroom? Or in Tony Hawk's hallway?

When they tell companies (and smokers) that they cannot have FLAVORS (not because they are “harmful” but because they make the product “paletable”) and cannot advertised this way or that way...

They are enforcing control outside of public wellbeing.

If it is deadly, ban it outright. No subsidizing its growth and the tobacco farmer vote. No taxing it to fund socialist programs. No class action lawsuits by the government against the companies that sell it.

But it makes money for the State, keeps some people voting for them, and its prohibition would cause a backlash at the polls on election day as millions suffered (non-fatal) withdrawl symptoms.
