This reflects on the point that Ayatollah Sistani in Iraq always made.
He was always strongly opposed to the idea of an Islamic Republic because when the public gets fed up with the state they identify it with the religion, and the religion gets discredited in the eyes of the public.
The current regime is actively discrediting Islam (in the Shia world anyway) for generations.

If zero were a real president, he could turn this around in a heartbeat and have Iran with a new regime in a month.
They are primed for a revolution right now like never before.
But all he will say is he is “concerned”
Regan would be inciting them to revolt and start a democracy by now.
