PARIS (AP) A top Muslim group in Britain lashed out at Nicolas Sarkozy as "patronizing and offensive" on Tuesday, after the French president said body- and face-covering Islamic garments such as the burqa turn women into prisoners.
In Paris, parliament formally created a commission Tuesday to study the wearing of body-cloaking Muslim robes in France, a day after Sarkozy told lawmakers that the burqa would not be welcome in the country.
A top official with the Muslim Council of Britain, an umbrella organization for British Muslim groups, accused Sarkozy of "divisive politics," and said his comments could fan an "Islamophobic reaction" in Europe.
"It is patronizing and offensive to suggest that those Muslim women who wear the burqa do so because of pressure or oppression by their male partners or guardians," the council's assistant secretary-general, Reefat Drabu, said in a statement. "Such suggestions can legitimately be perceived as antagonistic towards Islam."
"Banning the burqa will not give freedom to women," Jean-Marie Fardeau, director of the Paris office of Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. "It will only stigmatize and marginalize women who wear it."

Shades of Charles “The Hammer” Martel
Typical for British muslim groups.
Hopefully a Govt takes hold in the UK and bans them as well.
I took my wife over there last year to different places, castles etc.
Anyway we went through a place called Rochdale and got lost, my wife said if she took a photo right now and showed it back in America they would think the photo was taken in Afghanistan or some other muslim country.
Not one word in English, no women who showed their face, the men in those pyjamas and ling beards while the younger guys were trying to look tough.
This guy is a top student of Democrat practices. Right out of the first page of Democrat talking points.
Chanel, etc. Champs Elysee: catwalks for drapery.
How about one day we read the headline “Apology forthcoming for terrorist attacks. Resolution to stop violence”
If that doesn’t happen, then I want to see the headline “massive deportation begins next week.”
How about Western women visiting muslim countries...do they fuss when they’re forced to conform to cultural “norms” when visiting?
They wouldn't want to lose their heads over the issue.
“this can be rightly perceived as antagonistic towards Islam”
Hey muzzie, you want antagonistic? Note my tagline.
;^)
These worthless arrogant savages!!!!
):^(
either take em’ off or GET OUT that’s what I say
Sarkosy BUMP!!!
Considering they are just a bunch of raging savages who want to cut off heads, these folks have the thinnest skin I’ve ever seen. They are just sooooo “delicate.”

“Al-Qaeda Threatens France Over Burqa”
SNIPPET: “Today, al-Qaeda threatened France over the ostensible issue of the burqa. Tommorrow, America will be in their gun sights on this same issue.
The burqa, niqab even hijab are being used as pawns in the power struggle between jihadic Islam and the West. These dress codes are primarily political in nature.
For those people who really and truly believe that the burqa is a religious and not a political/jihadic issue consider this:
According to the United States monitoring service SITE Intelligence, al-Qaeda has just announced that it plans to take revenge on France for its opposition to the burka, calling on Muslims to retaliate against the country. Abu Musab Abdul Wadud, head of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb said:
Yesterday was the hijab (the Islamic headscarf long banned in French schools) and today, it is the niqab (the full veil). We will take revenge for the honour of our daughters and sisters against France and against its interests by every means at our disposal for us, the mujahedeen we will not remain silent to such provocations and injustices. We call upon all Muslims to confront this hostility with greater hostility.
Does anyone really believe that al-Qaeda is a religious group? Or that their religious pronouncements are holy and should be protected by American or European laws?”
