An Iowa congressman says an Army general was not out of line when he addressed Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) as "ma'am" during a recent Senate hearing.
Brigadier General Michael Walsh, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was testifying last week before Boxer's Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works about the progress of the Louisiana restoration process in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Boxer: "Well, why has it been delayed?
Walsh: "Ma'am, at the L-A-C-P-R is..."
Boxer: "You know, do me a favor. Could say 'Senator' instead of 'ma'am?'"
Walsh: "Yes."
Boxer: "It's just a thing; I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it. Yes, thank you."
Walsh: "Yes, Senator."
Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) knows Walsh personally and says addressing Boxer as "ma'am" was completely appropriate.
Steve King"He'd been out there toiling in 104-degree heat, serving America. And responding to people who address you with a respectful 'yes, sir' or 'yes, ma'am' is exactly what you're taught to do in military protocol," he notes. "When confronted with Senator Boxer admonishing him for addressing her as 'yes, ma'am' and directing him to address her as 'Senator,' the proper response would have been 'yes, ma'am!'"
Ironically, Fox News reported that the same day at a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee, two Navy officials repeatedly addressed Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) with the title "sir." Wicker had no objections.

Boxer: "It's just a thing; I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it. Yes, thank you."
You know, you know, you know. Boxer worked so hard to get where? Does this two-bit dunce of a socialist think she's more important than a general? If so, she's as nutty as Nutsy Pelousi.
Calyfornicate is so blessed. It has two whack-jobs as 'senators' and a stupid B movie strong man Republicrat as goobernator.

A militant atheist, insecure, 4'11" egomaniac with an IQ of about 85 is a recipe for disaster in a "leader."
Isn’t it typical for military officers to refer to juniors by their rank and superiors by “sir” or “ma’am”?
How do these people get elected?
Ignorant, clueless, just plain stupid.
You know, I very rarely meet a cheerful atheist.
It’s hard to determine who’s more arrogant-NY or Ca liberals!
Boxer, Fineswine, Stabenow and Napolitano, for examples always look like they're masked for Halloween. Additionally, everything they say, like most other Democrats including the usurper in the White House make absolutely no sense when they speak.
Boxer: "It's just a thing; I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it. Yes, thank you."
Walsh: "Yes Senator; I can see your not working hard to earn the title ma'am."
Have had service members address me as ma’am before and loved it. Sounded very respectful while they were answering my questions.
Here we go. The general's proper response could have been ..... "regarding your wish, I would rather just wait a few years till you get defeated in an election and then call you ma'am."
I would rather just wait a few years till you get defeated in an election and then call you stupid.”
I don’t know about the other services, but in the Navy, enlisted personnel address junior officers (Lieutenant Commander 0-4 and below) as “sir” and “ma’am” and senior officers (0-5 and above) by their rank, i.e. Commander, Captain, Admiral. One exception is that the Commanding Officer of any ship is addressed as “Captain”, regardless of his rank.
I personally feel that Ms. Boxer should be addressed as “you worthless paper container of execrement.”
"young lady (term used loosely) I have more time taking a dump then you have sucking oxygen, perhaps when you remember that you work for the American people we can get beyond your petty insecure tripe, and you can call me General."
this is how it is done in the real world, not your O2 free, methane enriched DC.
B!tch
She's not young and she's not a lady.
"Old Bitch" would be more appropriate.
Yes he did. It is obvious that a more fitting address be tossed in the creased, jaundiced face of this repulsive female.
I would have replied
Well, Senator, in the military, the term “Ma’am” is a term of respect to a superior officer. Much like the use of the term “sir”. However, if you permitting me to refer to you by the less respectful term “Senator”, I will.
By Ignorant, clueless, just plain stupid voters. It has been my contention for years that not only do you present a picture ID before casting a vote, but forced to take an IQ test. Anyone under 100 is forbidden to vote. This would eliminate most Democrats from voting rolls.
Senator Boxer looks much shorter in real life than she does in her pictures on television. God blesses some fools with a fools face and other fools with a fools mouth; in Senator Boxers case, she seems to have both. The title politician with all the respect that goes along with it is well deserved by Boxer.
The lowest ranking private in our military serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, or anywhere in American uniform does more a one day for this Nation then Barbara Boxer will probably ever do in her lifetime.
The term REMF comes to mind.

How about Hag? Moron? POS? Why the possibilities are endless! Can you imagine this guy who has spent his life protecting this worthless POS’s fat, sagging ass getting treated like this? Someone in California please do us a favor!
Bravo to Rep. King for publicly saying this. Maybe the other Republicans will get a clue that it’s long past time to defend right and go after the RATS no matter how big or small the issue.
King is the man.
Hmmm...if I ever cross paths with her I will address her by a term that starts with the same letter as her name.
She must not get out much.
Go to any restaurant or store, at her age, and she will be called “Ma’am.”
Funny, God thought He was the one who gave you that authority. Guess you know better, huh, Senator?
For some. For others, everyone is “Sir or Ma'am” if they are respected, and addressed by their rank if unknown, or not respected.
Of course, I'm an NCO, not a commissioned officer, and certainly not a general officer! Boxer has her foot in her mouth so far she's got a mustache. Last I checked, “senator” is a job description, and we don't do titles here in America. IIRC, the law making an officer automatically “an officer and a gentleman” was repealed in the ‘70’s as we got more and more female officers.
NCO's have been known to say "Don't call me 'sir', I work for a living" when so addressed, however. ;)
WRM, MSgt, USAF(Ret.)
**** boxer.
LLS
Well, if you think about it, she addressed him as “You know”. You (him)... Why not properly address him as, well... General!
In her effort to demand respect she was very disrespectful of him and his title. No one seems to be pointing this out.
And worse, RE-ELECTED!!!
A bit tooo generous about the IQ, weren’t you?
Perhaps the good General could offer a dirty sock to be surgically permanently attached to M’am’s mouth.
What a disasterously treasonous creature to have in the Senate.
I long for God to cleanse this earth of the evil doers more and more.
Do the California ones lock themselves in their rooms?
(RE: NY Senate yesterday)
I think you left out . . .
arrogant
traitorous
clueless
off the wall

ugly
miserable

Oh, 4’11”. I think I see the problem here. She is a plain old garden variety b***h. Kick her short a** our of office.
“Why are all the Democrat women ugly as sin and the Republican women beautiful by comparison?”
Perhaps because they feel they’ve been shortchanged in the looks department, they spend the rest of their lives flocking together and lashing out at the world. What else could explain it?
Article 1 Section 9
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.
An even dumber, more ignorant electorate.
Barbara Boxer’s proper title is Pompous Ass.
Senator Boxer, ma’am, Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
All wackos” are elected by a lot of “wackos.”
She loves the title more being a servant to the people, which she seems to hate!
My title for her is traitor bit(h.
Very well stated. Thank you for your service Katherine!
