LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A couple fought back against two bold intruders in their Lee County Home.

The homeowner and his fiancee, a retired coast guard officer and a former maximum security prison guard, said they woke up in their home early Monday morning to find a gun pointed in their faces.

The couple took action and fought back against the two intruders. The homeowner even managed to get the crook's gun.

"At that point I was going to take his life and he begged for his life, ''I don't want to die, I don't want to die, please don't kill me, let me go,'" said the homeowner.

Afterward, the men ran off, but they turned around and shot at the house. One of the bullets grazed the homeowner's shoulder.

Lee County deputies say they are looking for the two bold thieves.

In some states, the homeowner would have been arrested for stealing the burglar’s gun.

Yeah, or possessing an unregistered weapon.

When dirtbags like this plead for their lives, pause very briefly and consider what they had planned for you. If you STILL don’t want to rid society of some bona fide scum, kneecap them. It will be extremely painful and guarantees that they are not running anywhere - ever.

I might give them a minute or two to make their peace with their maker, but that's about all.

I agree, but killing both of them would bring lots of grief in court, I’m afraid.

But they couldn't testify against you....or sue you for kneecapping them either.

Better to be judged by twelve than be carried by six.

This is why I wouldn't convict someone who shot at a burglar when he was running away. You still may not be safe, even if they are running away.

I could actually see that happening in Kalifornia and Massivetwoshits!

I mean, heck in DC they would arrest the home owner for stealing the gun and then charge him with illegal possesion!

Welcome to the new Hopey-Changey Amerika!

Food for thought.

How the heck did they get in without waking up the couple? Did they leave a door unlocked?

What I got from the story was that after he disarmed them, he did not believe there was still a threat, until after they escaped. Story was kind of confusing.

I have bars on my windows and two dogs sleeping in the bedroom. If anyone still manages to break in, they are going to die and pleading won’t help.

Exactly. If they have a weapon that reach out at a distance, you most certainly do not know if they are “running away” or only trying to get to a better tactical position.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they come back and kill the homeowners.

That's what's always in the back of my mind - THEY know YOUR address, but you don't know theirs. Take care of the problem now. I never could figure when someone says "I'll get you for this" why the rejoinder isn't "We'll settle this NOW!".

first, pardon me, as I replied ot the wrong post...should have been 17, not 18. That may be why my reply seemed a bit out of context to your post.

second, good perimeter awareness and control is prudent. The dog is good for this!

"Stupid is as stupid does!"

In this case it applies to both the invaders and the invadees....
