Even cops losing their jobs in recession
AP/YahooNews ^ | 6/24/09 | DON BABWIN

As hundreds of jobs in Chicago's police department go unfilled, officers who once patrolled the streets with partners are riding alone in what some cops bitterly call "rolling coffins."

They ALWAYS cut ESSENTIAL SERVICES while fat cats behind closed doors make out like bandits. This allows people to begrudgingly JUSTIFY MORE TAXES. It works every time.

Rolling coffins? Is this what Obama meant by “shovel ready?”

We’ve got too many cops, anyway.
When I see them enforcing seatbelt and “quality of life” ordinances, like landscaping requirements, that says it all.

And, don’t get me started on the “WO(S)D”.

Doggummit... who is going to write parking tickets, direct traffic and beat-up female bartenders anymore? Oh I forgot, he was an off-duty Chicago cop. Never mind.

I think cops on night shift should always have partners, unless backup is reasonably within range.

Same with state troopers on night shift.

Now on the joking side, it would be better for the sellers of donuts as well.

:)

No Chicago cop has been laid off. The article is deceptive b.s.

The only job losses sited come from other states. For example, this big joke:

In Broward County, Fla., Sheriff Al Lamberti worries that attacks by inmates on deputies and each other will increase because he must lay off 68 of his 1,500 jail deputies. In addition, 100 civilians are being laid off at the county's jails, which house about 5,000 people.

OMG, the world is coming to an end, he has to cut back by 4.5%, this is an outrage. The jail has to manage with a mere 1 deputy PER every 3 inmates. This cannot stand, there should be 1 deputy for every 1 inmate. How do they manage in Florida. They must have deputies being attacked and killed everyday in this absurdly inbalanced situation.

Let’s see: Armed police officers with radios consider themselves driving in “rolling coffins”.

What do they called unarmed citizens driving along?

“Also, more cops are being attacked on the streets, and police say that is because they can no longer flood the scene with officers when they respond to a call. The number of incidents of battery against a police officer in Chicago rose from 2,677 to 3,158 between 2007 and 2008, according to department statistics.”

But no mention of battery to female bartenders by Chicago thugs-cops? That “flood the scene” crap is just that, crap. Get ten cops there so nine can stand around looking like they’re doing something important. And this is the same Chicago police department that not two months ago bragged about using “undercover” cops to bust jaywalkers??!!?? I’m certain there was no other crime of any importance happening anywhere in the city while these idiots busted those dastardly jaywalkers! Probably nobody getting shot in the daycare-centers-for-teenagers that pass as public shcools up there, no gang activity anywhere, no robberies, nothing like that. Nope, gotta roust those jaywalkers amd make certain you find some time to write those parking tickets and maybe even a speeding ticket because after all, we must generate some revenue.

Living under socialism hurts everybody, everybody but the ones on top. I wouldn’t want to be a cop in Chicago and I don’t blame all of them for the crimes of some, although I find it disgusting when they reactively cover up criminal cops. That happens too much, but you have to understand the psychology of Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois.

When you’ve got a place so corrupt from end to end that doing the right thing means losing your job or worse you’re not going to find many heroes.

Thieves elect thieves and then are shocked that there’s no honor to be found.

Not so long ago, a sergeant busted a known mobster who was armed. It should have been a federal rap and a done deal. Shortly after the story broke the first ward alderman walked into the station and had the mobster released. Never heard what happened to the sergeant - likely walking a beat today. If he’s still on the force.

The corruption is that thick and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I understand everything you wrote, trust me. I grew up in IL and only moved to FL 6 years ago. Then we lost our jobs and now we’re back in IL so we’re back to seeing this stuff first-hand again. It’s so sad, and now a select block of the population propagated the Chicago atmosphere to the federal level. Hard enough to live with at a state level but now we have Chicago politics onstage for the world to see.
