Climate Change: He's a NASA scientist, the world's top climate researcher, we're told. Of course he's apolitical, nonpartisan, unbiased. Then why was the man who began the global warming scare arrested as an activist?
In a statement distributed by the Rainforest Action Network at the protest, Hansen tried to cover himself, saying "I am not a politician; I am a scientist and a citizen." As much as his claim is true, it's not an accurate indicator of the role he has carved out for himself.
While Hansen is not new to political activism, he can plausibly claim that his previous involvement in the global warming issue was based on what he's learned from his research, that he simply feels obligated to warn the public about the dangers he discovered.
But mountaintop coal removal has only a thin connection to the speculation about global warming. Hansen himself admits that it provides "only a small fraction of our energy."

Hansen is the living embodiment of Junk Science.
What Hansen is protesting used to be simply called “strip mining”. Takes some hellaciously big equipment to do.
I guess “mountaintop mining” is supposed to inflame the senses more.
And Hansen needs to resign from NASA or be canned if he’s going to be an “activist” (love that title). Activism isn’t NASA’s job.
Of course; Daryll Hannah made the news. Those ‘celebs’ can make it happen. Sadly, no mention of ‘Mr. Wizard’ of Global Warming fame. . .
In his last lifetime, he sent ‘witches’ to the fire; as did Algore, no doubt.
I’d heard long ago that Captain Planet creator Ted Fonda (Turner) ordered and paid for the removal of a mountaintop so he could have an unobstructed view of his trout pond from his home.
I wonder what this guy would say to old Ted about this.
"Several years ago I received the Heinz Environment Award. I don't know who nominated me for that award or how the selection works."
"I am confident that it has no impact on my evaluation of the climate problem or on my political leanings."
"In the upcoming election I will vote for John Kerry."
