"Gay Exorcism" On YouTube Causes Controversy

A Connecticut church posted a controversial video on YouTube that raised questions about the treatment of children by a leader of a gay and lesbian teen mentoring group among others

The video features church elders performing what looks like an exorcism, of what they refer to in the video as "homosexual demons"

The video shows leaders of the Manifested Glory Ministries in a frenetic scene, screaming, "Right now I command you to leave!"

At the same time a teen writhing on the ground as the adults around him implore so called "homosexual demons" to get out.

The leaders yell at the boy on the ground saying, "Right now in the name of Jesus, I call the homosexuality, right now in the name of Jesus."

For 20 minutes it continues with the boy in a near seizure, even vomiting.

By the looks of it, and the repeated references to his sexual orientation, it appears to be a gay exorcism.

Prophet Patricia McKinney and her husband, church overseer Kelvin McKinney have a weekly radio show. She wasn't much interested in talking, telling Fox 61's Laurie Perez, "Don't be following, I'm telling you no."

The only hint of a comment was her saying the ritual shown in the video is just one part of their ministry.

Robin McHaelen runs a mentoring program for gay teens,True Colors, and says she knows of 5 other teens in Connecticut who've been subjected to "demon casting."

She said, "What really freaked me out is the people who did that to that child wasn't because they were trying to hurt him. They thought they were trying to help him, but I think it that they murdered his soul."

Working out of this corner business unit in the industrial part of the city, the Manifested Glory Ministry lists no specific denomination.

The church has recently taken down its YouTube account, but the video is still posted on other sites.

I most certainly believe in demons but whether this is an effective way to deal with such things I’m not entirely convinced but that evil personified does exist I am without doubt.

It is weird but nothing not typical as far as exorcism is concerned.

I’ve actually seen people be “healed” fall down and stuff. I had a guy lay hands on me once, I didn’t fall down and start shaking or anything but some did. My only reservation about this kind of thing is that I do not find this particular method in the bible though the convulsions are normal. I’d like to see more scientific inquiry into this. When Jesus cast out demons there was no great drama no great spectacle that I can find described. The spectacle instead came from the demons who implored Jesus to let them go into the pigs. Furthermore when Jesus healed he didn’t based upon the biblical reference use high drama he simply did it. I think many in evangelical circles make a mistake in confusing spectacle with power. Jesus nor his disciples can ever be accused of generating religious spectacles they demonstrated the power of a living God.

Matthew 8:28-33
“ When He [Jesus] had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?” Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.” And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water. Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.”

I’ve never watched one but there is plenty of interesting well documented events that suggests there is something to them.

This business makes conservative condemnation of homosexuality seem silly if not primitive.

How is that? Gay pride parades make acceptance of Homosexuality appear primitive and naive. Exorcisms have been done for many other things. Homosexuality is simply wrong. One does not need to believe in Jesus or any other God to know that.

At a very basic level an organism has one mission and that is to survive and reproduce. Homosexuality flies in the face of this basic reality. Also the very method of coupling is damaging to the organism and exposes the organism to greater incidence of disease and shorter lifespan. This is why even in animals especially primates homosexual coupling is used primary to induce submission of weaker males.

Acceptance of homosexuality is naive and just not very smart.

Yeah we can’t have that. The only reason I posted this is because I thought it would make for interesting conversation.
What I find offensive is that some believe that the Bible is the great disqualifier as if because the Bible prohibits something that it must be an indication that the idea must be primitive when there is nothing primitive about the belief in God or religion. What is primitive is laissez-faire sexual attitudes and I could go on and on but that is unnecessary. Civilization developed sexual prohibitions to manage the cost of not having them. The assumption that ideas about decency, marriage, and other culture and tradition ideas came out of a whole cloth attempt to ruin people’s fun is stupid. The reason cultural attitudes survive is no different than why animal species survive.

Libs are only concerned about the feared results when it is against one of their sacred cows. Otherwise, they ask us to consider the effort of a failed program rather than looking at the results.

It is a sad day for America when religious practice is condemned as insanity.

I knew a prominent preacher of the past who did cast out a demon of homosexuality. His famous sermon, “The sickest Sin in the World” condemning homosexuality from a Biblical perspective, is now long forgotten.

I’ve never studied Exorcism in depth but just from my understanding of human psychology which I have studied I believe that Exorcism no matter how unpleasant to watch may produce real results in some people. It provides a shock to the system whether you believe it is a spiritual shock or a psychological shock it is easy to see where such an event may indeed provide healing. Perception is a very powerful thing and if a singular event such as Exorcism can provide a shock to the system then it may be a valid option. It is something that has not be studied in detail as far as I know. People often assume wrongly that because something comes from a religious discipline that it is baseless. We increasingly know that to be an over generalization and largely untrue. Religion is no different than any other human endeavor in that it sometimes acquires weird or questionable traditions but that by no means indicates the quality of religion as a whole.
