COLUMBIA, S.C. – Just after South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to a yearlong extramarital affair, his state's largest newspaper posted online romantic, suggestive e-mails that it says were exchanged between the chief executive and his Argentinian lover.

The State of Columbia redacted the full name of the woman, identifying her only as "Maria," but their contents clearly show they were more than friends.

The newspaper says it has had the messages since December, which would be about the time Sanford says his wife found out about the tryst. In a message to The Associated Press, managing editor Steve Brook declined to immediately elaborate on why it chose not to publish the e-mails earlier.

In an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live," State reporter John O'Connor said the newspaper was sent the messages from the governor's personal e-mail account by an anonymous person.

Darn it. Drudge had the Headline “HOW DID NEWSPAPER GET GOV’S PRIVATE EMAILS?” and then the lame Yahoo had this title above. The real crime here should be looked at. WHO hacked his email acct.

Yea, if he had a “D” after his name, the media would be in arms over his “privacy”.

Exactly. And my guess is that all of his political enemies had the same info, and felt emboldened to go after him hard, knowing that he was in a weak position.

thank god that fraud was caught now, instead in Oct 2012. Media would used the emails then.

also, good reminder not to fall in love (ideologically) with a politician. Messiah-complex is not limited to Obama and DU. It is all too common here, too.

When the first news about his disappearance broke, it was immediately clear that it is a PR-disaster (even had there been innocent explanation) and no serious candidate would have allowed such a story to emerge..But try saying that and all the Messiah-adoring morons attack you and insult you..Let’s just say that lack of intellectual honesty is all too common characteristics of those who are passionate about politics.

No politician is perfect.

“Yea, if he had a “D” after his name, the media would be in arms over his “privacy”.

That’s right, and would be pressing the rhetorical question “How should this affect his ability to do the job?”

“TMI”- too much information (eeewww) about a middle aged man surrendering his entire life and legacy and his family’s former good name and respect - to his johnson.

Besides, whatever happened to privacy in this country? Given Sanford’s position, whoever sold this information is a security risk to sell any dang information they can, to make a dime-

Book ‘em, Danno.

How can anyone read other person’s private communication and not be ashamed of HIMSELF is beyond me... Entire State of Columbia staff and John O’Connor truly deserve special place in hell.

I have wondered the same thing as to how a newspaper, two I’ve read The State and NY TImes, had the emails since back in December. Yesterday I read an article that they were sent to them by the estranged spouse of Sanford’s affair. I have no idea if that is true or not.

Someone inside Sanford’s administration leaked these to the paper. Was there blackmail involved at some point ?

If it was from the mistress’ husband, then I’m OK with it.

My thought on this whole affair is that it was cleverly set up by someone who wanted Sanford out of the 2012 Presidential scene. Let’s see, he met her over 8 years ago, but they only got “busy” in the last year or so....

I have a theory, and maybe it’s been posted in the last day or two, so I don’t know...

I read a report that he spent time in Argentina “crying”. Suppose the Dems had the goods on him for awhile, and then brought this out now - right before Cap and Trade - deliberately. He knew he was going down.

Remember, when they say “watch my right hand”, look at what the left hand is doing.

My guess it was the mistress herself. She’s tired of this affair and wants the showdown. Banking on the wife seeking a divorce and I hope she does. Let him have the bimbo. He has destroyed his own soul already, will never have emotional stability again; just listen to the press conference. A very sick piece of bread, no longer a man.

“He knew he was going down.’

Would you care to rephrase that?

WE ALL KNEW he was going down!
