I don't know about the mysterious part...between the skin bleachings, countless surgeries, flaming hair, hyperbaric chambers and who knows what combinations of pharmaceuticals he subjected himself to over the past few decades, I'd say the only big mystery is how he managed to survive as long as he did.

What I find bizarre, is the incredible amount of debt. It has been reported that his debt is in excess of 500 million, which is equal to his entire lifetime of earning. This has to be some kind of record, to burn through a full billion dollars in a short 50 year life. Wow.
