26 June 2009 | me

Posted on 06/26/2009 1:16:36 PM PDT by lt.america

Edited on 06/26/2009 2:20:07 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

Unreal. Congressman Barton pointing out that current bill is missing 300 pages and he is asking if they can actually vote on a bill that is not present.

Mod update, see reply #7.

What different does it make if it's present? It's not like anybody is going to read it anyway.

Here is a link to Waxman's 300-page amendment, which is, in effect, the substitute bill: http://www.rules.house.gov/111/SpecialRules/hr2998/waxman1_hr2998_111.pdf

Waxman only made it available this morning. As far as I know there are no print outs except for what is pulled from the Rules Committee website and printed individually. I have been screaming about this on FR all day to no avail.

Of course not. They didn’t read that “stimulus” bill, so why would they read this one?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOHICA

“BOHICA (also spelled “B.O.H.I.C.A” and Bohica”) is an acronym that stands for “Bend Over, Here It Comes Again” - Used colloquially to indicate that an adverse situation is about to repeat itself, and that acquiescence is the wisest course of action. It literally refers to an acceptance of forced sodomy.[1] The term grew to regular use amongst the US Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, and would appear to have derived from the French word beaucoup (meaning “many” or “much”). [2] Although it originated in the US Military forces, its usage has spread to civilian environments and used to describe unavoidable, unpleasant situations that have inconvenienced one before, and are about to yet again.”

I still go back to that conversation in civics class where I asked if it were POSSIBLE for Congress to sign our country over and I was told it was next to impossible because it would take the entire Congress not being able to read the bill or not doing it and then the President signing it on top of that...

yeah, after that last stimulus I’m not so sure anymore.

300-page amendment, which is, in effect, the substitute bill:

No it's not. That's what it's being portrayed as, but if you glance through the PDF it's actually adding more (about another 200 pages I figure) to the crap and trade bill including directives markets and incentives for reps in farm districts.

Uh, PER MONTH. Just on your electric bill. Doesn't include your gas, nor the increased price for anything using fuel to be produced and/or shipped to you (i.e. anything). Think food: You need petroleum-based fertilizer, the tractors and combines need fuel, processing takes fuel, shipping it to you uses fuel and if it is refrigerated it uses yet more fuel.

The average family is going to be out between $3,000 and $4,000 per year. At least we'll save a lot on gas - unemployed people don't use much of it compared to commuting every day. If this passes, kiss this lousy economy good-bye, and welcome in GD 2.

The increased bills themselves are a tax. Government loves that sort of thing: being able to blame their milking of our incomes on third parties.

Worse and worse. And yes, you are right, I was imprecise. He introduced the amendment in the form of a substitute to H.R. 2998, which incorporates a number of amendments that no one had read today except for his staff, and which further clouds the legislation. It was accepted. But my point is, Waxman posted it on the committee website and everyone was forced to fend for themselves at the last minute.

I heard Roscoe Bartlett said his calls were running 50-50 for this bill.

It's H.R. 2454 ... there are two versions of this bill.  Google is your friend.  All you need to search for is Waxman-Markey Climate Change.  If you can't find it.  The least you can do is ask FGS.

Imagine the promises to vote yes, unless it really comes down to it, “cause it might cost me the election” nonsense. Could be a long time for those votes to come in. Everybody is going to be checking to see who in a “safe district” hasn’t voted yet!

Sounds like standard procedure in the Dem controlled House. It goes a little further than the Stimulus. At least in that case they had the Fig Leaf of having given the Reps a copy of the 1,000 page plus bill the night before the vote.

I guess they want to save printing costs since the result is the same - Bills passed with all sorts of Pork and Corruption.
