In an attempt to stall the passage of the Democratic energy bill, Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Friday began reading the text of the 300-page Democratic amendment during his closing remarks on the bill.
Republicans contend that no one in the House has read the text of the deal worked out between Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) and Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).
Several GOP sources confirmed Boehner’s decision, which is allowed under the House rule that gives leaders unlimited floor time.
This is the latest in a series of protests launched by House Republicans in the past few weeks over minority rights. GOP Members believe they have been locked out of the process through rule changes by Democratic leadership.
On June 18, Members were on the floor for eight hours for a record 53 votes in one day.

This is really important. Everybody needs to watch this on CSPAN. The House is making a sham of our system of government, just as they did the day they rammed the stimulus bill through a vote without allowing members time to read it. Boehner is reading a 300 page amendment that was added at the last minute by Henry Waxman. Most of it cannot be understood and I am sure that Waxman himself doesn’t understand the parts about derivitative trading - I’ve seen him speak before.
Delay it so the week off allows time to show America what it is and what it means to us
This is what is needed. He must continue to read the bill. Get him water , get him a catheter. stop this POS bill.

Is this how our legislators RULE OVER US? They VOTE on items that impact our lives having NEVER READ the consquences , the or cons, etc??? This is HIDEOUS!
Good for Boehner...not only is he delaying the bill, but the recitation of the glop inside of it should shine light on those democrat cockroaches masquerading as “representatives” and cause them to rethink their vote (self-preservation is their life). It also illustrates the old adage about writing legislation being akin to making sausage. The sausage Boehner is reading will give every taxpaying American a nasty case of Montezuma’s Revenge.

I called my linguini-spined Dem congressman’s office this morning, and they wouldn’t even tell me his position on this TAX bill! I told them in no uncertain terms that if the congressman valued his constituents, he better vote NO!

“I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your efforts to oppose the Cap and Trade bill. Even if it does pass you have shown the kind of leadership that will make the people love you. We don’t expect miracles but we do expect leadership. Thank you John. I am proud to be a Republican today.”
No. The only vote there has been is to pull the stupid bill out of committee and onto the house floor. That was this morning.
Lots of trolls are claiming the bill has passed because of that first vote to bring it to debate.

The amendment, which no one has read except the parties that wrote it, is 300 pages. Lord knows what they shoved in there. Could be anything. For all we know, a vote for this “energy” bill could be a vote to fund the free food and cars and computers for liberals for life program, and to criminalize photoshopping pics of Nancy Pelosi.
