Gun owners show support for open-carry law at picnic in Kalamazoo(Explicit anti-gun comments)
Kalamazoo News ^ | 8 June, 2009 | Kathy Jessup/keithmlui

KALAMAZOO -- It resembled most any Sunday afternoon picnic in Bronson Park. Except most of the people assembled around tables filled with watermelon and grilled goodies had firearms in holsters strapped to their waists.

The Glocks and the Smith & Wessons remained holstered but visible during a three-hour Open Carry Picnic designed to raise public awareness of what organizers called Second Amendment rights in Michigan to openly carry a firearm in most places.

They were high school teachers, college students, computer geeks and housewives with one thing in common. Rather than a cell phone, the leather pouch they wore at their waist contained a gun. The picnic drew about 40 people on a wet afternoon.

Josh Tishhouse, 22, a native of Otsego now living in Ann Arbor, was wearing his 9 mm Glock 17 as he held a soda in one hand, passing out Michigan Open Carry information brochures with the other.

The University of Michigan systems administrator said he has openly carried his handgun for the past year. But not at work, saying he respects the university's work rules that ban firearms on campus.

----------cut------- Now here are the explicit comments-----

Posted by keithmlui on 06/08/09 at 10:05AM The 2nd Amendment refers to a "militia," i.e. military.

There is no need for private citizens to own firearms of anykind. It simply should not be allowed.

Approved hunters can rent rifles from appropriate DNR offices.

---------While silly and outrageous, at least civil. Then-------

Posted by hbuck on 06/08/09 at 11:13AM keithmlui, a 'militia' by definition is NOT military. Militia: civilians trained as soldiers but not part of the regular army. The militia is those that are not in the regular army, but who would be ready and willing to defend this country alongside with the military. And here is how it is defined in U.S. Code Title 10: The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. -- This means we – the citizens – are the militia.

I find it very interesting that people who are afraid of guns like to read the 2nd Amendment as not an individual right, but they read the 1st Amendment as pertaining to individual rights.

_------------Then a reply--------------------

Inappropriate? Alert us. Post a commentPosted by keithmlui on 06/08/09 at 2:26PM hellooonu1 -

So who are you defending yourself from? The boogie-man? People that look different from you? Your own cowardice?

Do you realize that you are considerably more likely to get killed or injured with your own firearm than detering a crime with it?

The fact is you do not need - and should not have - a personal firearm. America will be a safer country if we abolish personal ownership of firearms and only allow them to be rented from the government for hunting purposes. And a strong, credible environmental/land use argument can be made against allowing them for hunting, or even allowing hunting at all.

Open your minds, people, and save the planet!

-----------------OK, getting a bit more explicit--------

Posted by keithmlui on 06/08/09 at 3:08PM I agree with liam9903.

We need an activist, aggressive government to deal with a collection of difficult, controversial issues right now, not the least of which is man-made global warming and urban sprawl.

America can't have greedy, invidualist, "I got mine," cowboys underminding the government and the needs of the majority of citizens.

What happened in this park is a slap in the face to governmental authority (elections have consequences people) and a chilling precedent. It should never be allowed to happen again!

----And there we have it, an finally explicit, naked explanation of why the left wants gun control "it is a slap in the face to governmental authority"---- Finally---

Posted by CoonDog42 on 06/08/09 at 4:24PM @keithmlui,

Are you representing your own opinions or those of the Michigan Land Use Institute?

I thought that the posts by keith@mlui were worth posting to show the mindset of those who would disarm us. It is not often that they are this clear about their mindset.

LoL what a maroon. I really doubt he would even allow that but he's too much of a coward to come right out and say it.

Ya’know, anyone named Keith is usually a nerdy geek.

Hey Keith, since you believe there is no individual right to own guns, I call upon you to starting knocking on doors and demanding,

“I’m Keith and I’m here to take away your guns! Hand ‘em over! Now!!”

So, what was the casualty count at this picnic/event loaded (pun intended) with firearms? ... {crickets} ... What!? No-one was killed, or at least shot!? But..but...how can this be? The gun-grabbing anti-Americans are sure "guns" are evil and cause deaths where-ever they are found. Surely, in such a high concentration there must've been some mayhem. ;-/

Did you notice that does he not only want your gun, he also wants your car (Globall warming) and your home (uncontrolled urban sprawl.

If he were allowed to talk long enough he would get around to supporting forced abortion and forced euthanasia of the sick amd elderly.

The idiot probably calls conservatives nazis but isn’t smart enough to realize how nicely he fits into the mold.

This extreme LibTard mindset is the major problem in America, today.
As far as I’m concerned, it may well be time to split the country and let the Libs take part, and the sane folks will take the rest. I’d do a relo for that logic...

It’s time to take back the country.

In some ways Kalamazoo is much worse than Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is an obvious liberal stronghold but I think the per capita number of extreme leftist whackjobs is higher in Kzoo.

Here's the weasel. This Michigan Land Use Institute he founded is a bunch of insufferable busybodies who want to tell every land owner what he can and (mostly) can't do with his own private property. I am very glad that the open carry movement is getting under his skin.

I think-- speaking in historical, philosophical, and theoretical terms ONLY-- it's safe to say that this heap of dung and his fellow travelers in "aggressive, activist government" are exactly the kind of scum that our forefathers had in mind when they wrote the Second Amendment. A hundred years ago, subjecting the sturdy farmers of Michigan to this kind of tyrannical nonsense would have meant tar, feathers, and a ride on a rail, or even a rope. He should thank his lucky stars that the people in this story are peaceable and law-abiding citizens with a very, very high threshold for taking matters into their own hands.

Oderunt dum metuant.

Liberals should stay out of Conservatives' gun cabinets, and Conservatives should stay out of Liberals' bedrooms.

America can't have greedy, invidualist, "I got mine," cowboys underminding the government and the needs of the majority of citizens.

That selfish totalitarian mindset is the reason we have the 2nd Amendment.

This is a great letter that's been around for quite some time.

_______________________________________________________ "Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement: Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Prius station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name, and our Flag. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

Freedom loving American

P.S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand & Jane Fonda with you."

And a strong, credible environmental/land use argument can be made against allowing them for hunting, or even allowing hunting at all.

What argument is that, Keith? That you would enjoy seeing diseased and starving populations of wildlife? Neither the Federal nor any state division of wildlife would agree with you that animal populations can be controlled without hunting.

The Nat. Park Service has held open public debates here in RMNP for over thirty years to decide how to deal with an overpopulation of elk. They finally decided to hire some hunters after hearing every possible solution under the sun.

I wish I had gotten some film of the peaceful swans slaughtering goslings this spring. Seems that Keith could use an education in reality.

I’m sure Keith would understand as he watched a swan grab a gosling by its head and whip it around till the baby bird was left lifeless with a broken neck. He might be especially interested in what happens when more than one swan catches a gosling at the same time.
